    ArmA 1943

I like the sound of that canuk- like a phoenix rising from the ashes. All that great IN44 stuff deserves to be used some more, unfortunately the bulk of it was released just when a lot of players were leaving ofp behind. I wish all the ww2 oriented mod guys would get together and get stuck into something like that instead of being all fragmented and starting possibly over ambitious projects. Come on guys, team game, team game!

    Ordering men to re-arm

When one of your men goes over to an ammo crate, or to a dead body - then crouches down - you can temporarily take control of him and chose whatever you want. To do this, chose "Gear" in your action menu, which should appear as soon as your man crouches down. I think, anyway...

    2nd Beta 1.07.5157 feedback thread

Sorry Jackal no, I just assumed 3rd party addons in general conflict with the new beta patch.

    2nd Beta 1.07.5157 feedback thread

Since the new patch I'm getting missing weapons, I found a post saying it was 3rd party addons which were thought to be responsible - does anybody know which ones? (Yes I've already searched). It's allright, just found the answer...

    ArmA Disappointing

SEAL84, I might be stating the obvious, but in case I'm not, decrease the mouse sensitivity on the X and Y axis in control options. Even though I've got a high-res gaming mouse, my aiming was terrible til I did this, my aim always used to jump around several pixels at a time, now it's silky smooth.

World War 2 or Modern mods?

I think the fact that resources are more readily at hand is a factor for people working on modern stuff, also people like to try to implement modern technological weaponry to try to push engine limits etc. But I think ArmA has massive potential as a platform for ww2, especially considering larger battle capability in AA over OFP. Can't wait to see some ww2 stuff in ArmA!

Quantum physics says goodbye to reality

Light-speed is only really a figure of speech for stating that something can, or is, travelling at 186,000 miles per second. as does a particle of light once it has been ejected from a star. It's the velocity that is important, not the light or particles of light inferred. Once again, every action must have an equal and opposite reaction - so when you accelerate up to the speed of light you are gaining mass, when you gain mass the immediate part of space around you curves around that object of mass, then time cannot move forward in a straight line because space-time is curved. Ultimately, physics at the quantum level are not obliged to make as much sense as physics at the macro level, we are human and carbon chauvinist, and expect things to be just so.

Quantum physics says goodbye to reality

The forward motion of time is relative to the curvature of space-time, which is why, hypothetically, if you had a spacecraft capable of reaching light speed and went on a tour of the local portion of the milky way, travelling at light speed, then arrived back on Earth all your friends and family would be long gone but you would still be alive. As your spacecraft approaches light speed it would gain so much mass that the curvature of space-time around the spacecraft would increase relative to yourself, so time would pass much more slowly to you aboard, than to someone living in 'normal' space-time back on Earth. This effect also applies to someone taking a flight on a jet, although to an infinitesimally smaller degree.

    D-Day kit (wip)

Very nice models alloisi, it's nice to see the 'cast' Sherman hull for a change.

    The "Haze" in ArmA

Has "The 'haze' issue fix" been tested on the GF8800's at all? Or are the view distance issues with those cards a seperate problem?

    SciFi Project: UNICON warfares

Maybe D@nte's using a super-symmetry quantum singularity technology which enables a gravitational equilibrium between the centre point of two objects of un-equal mass - thus negating the inverse square law of gravity. Quite clever, wish I'd thought of it myself.

    Just one request...

I just want to add my voice to this point as well, very much so!!! Also, while we're on the subject of vehicles, why are so many static vehicles locked? I used to love stealing some hardware in ofp and going on the rampage. I know the object is realism, but should'nt it also be about freedom of choice?

    super ai

I could swear, that a few times that the ai have actually shot and killed me at close quarters BEFORE they've actually aimed at me!!! some synchronization seems to be out somewhere between animation and action. Billy the kid, eat your heart out!

Nvidia 100.87 for WinXP x86 are out

It's a shame, I had big hopes for these drivers, although I have to admit I have'nt had any lag whatsoever on my GF8800 gtx - I have had horrible lighting and texture glitches, together with the 'grey fog' even on maximum view distance. Also since patch 1.5 I've had the old muzzle flash bug that ofp had sometimes. I was hoping the fix would come from nvidia for these issues, because I dont think it's going to come from BI.

    Burning Sands: Africa '42

This looks an interesting project MehMan, ArmA should be much better suited for a WW2 theme than ofp because of the larger battle possibilities. You might know about this site anyway, but if you dont there are loads of referance pics here: http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com/allied.htm Should be useful!

    Ghost weapon

I've had this as well, I'm also using a GF8800gtx with the 97.92 drivers. I'm getting a lot of lighting bugs as well, especially with NV goggles, in fact every time I load up the game I get something different brightness and gamma-wise, if I'm playing a mission and get killed - I click on load save game, and I get a whole new picture to what I saw a few seconds previously. I'm going from grey and washed out to luminous, fluorescent colours that burn my eyes out. Oh, and I'm also getting the view distance bug that's been reported with the 8800's. No matter what I set the view distance to I'm getting 'grey fog' at short distances.

    Where is mouse cursor?

Thanks for the tip, suma. This and the big splash that pops up for your inventory - smashing the thin veneer of immersion - are some of the few annoyances for me, apart from those, I love ArmA. P.S. I'm missing the zoom function badly in commanders and drivers seats! although I understand these might be added?

    NV Goggle

I'm getting the same thing, except for me it's worse. If I switch to NV, I get this luminous green oval in the middle of the screen that burns my eyes out - & I can't see a single object on screen. If I adjust brightness and gamma, then it completely messes up the settings for daylight. In fact I have to have the gamma set on virtually nothing for normal daylight to prevent further damage to my eyes! Played on the following: CPU QX6700 GPU GF8800gtx (97.92 drivers) Mobo. Asus striker extreme. 2 GB Mem. XP Prof.

    flickering texture at high distance....

I just want to say that I've got the 97.92 drivers installed, but I've still got the flickering bug. I only have to move the cursor a few degrees above or below the horizontal to set the flickering off. ***WARNING! DONT PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE EPILEPSY*** My specs: CPU, QX6700. GPU, GF8800 gtx. Mobo, Asus striker extreme. 2 gigs memory. Windows XP Prof.

How does the UK version run

I just made this post in another thread, I suppose it should have been in here. Well, my first impressions of the game are, 1 - it makes your bladder hurt, I installed the game about 90 mins ago and I've been dying for the toilet since then. Overall I have to say I LOVE it, and I was actually bracing myself for a letdown, in that 90 mins I had two minimise to desktop's but I think that was due to a windows update pestering me to restart the PC. The game's running as smooth as silk at 1280 x 1024 with most settings on either high or very high - although I am getting a lighting bug that somebody posted on here a few weeks back, there are flickering levels of brightness when I move the cursor up or down just a few degrees above or below the horizontal. And sometimes I've got a band of 'dimness' about 2/3rds of the way down the screen, but this seems to come and go. AI seems a bit more 'AT' (artificially thick) than artificially intelligent, but there is room for improvement with this, I know. I was worried even with my new PC it was going to be laggy but no worries now. I'm running it on the following: CPU, QX6700 2 gig mem Asus striker extreme mobo. Single, GF8800 gtx. Windows XP prof. Anybody got any advise for the flickering and band of 'dimness' ?

Will you buy the game tomorrow??

My copy should arrive from Amazon in the morning, I'm looking forward to it - except for one factor - and that is, I get the feeling when I actually install it and get playing the game, it's going to turn out to be a second hand experience after reading so much about it on these forums from the people who have seemingly been playing it since the last ice-age. I know some smart alec will say "so dont read the forums" but curiosity gets the better of you. I think what's interesting is the disparity in opinions of the game, some saying it's awesome, some saying it's crap. There dont seem to be that many indifferent views on it.

    Has 505 games announced yet?

There's a four page review of ArmA in this months UK PC gamer magazine (finally)! The review ends with this: "The PC gamer office is divided between those who find ArmA one of the most exciting prospects on the gaming horizon, and those who have watched me playing it and said, "That looks rubbish." Like any simulator , it's not about providing a cinematic experience, it's about  making you feel like a real soldier, and have all the options and problems a real soldier has. That's not pretty, but it's an incredible experience." February issue, by the way.
