  1. My greatest respect if the "hanging tree" bug will be fixed. Then I can make and play forest missions.. But without the editing tools - or the editing hack?! it is unrealistic to edit the p3d object properties of the modifyed engine.
  2. Wow - Arma becomes playable with the old trees at every location. The flying trees are disturbing, and the old Malden bushes are little crazy, but now I can play everywhere! Why were the trees maked so complicated? To show the world their Graphics cards are not good enough? For me the resistance trees (without changing lods) are the best trees ever!

    Good missions are rare. But I want realism and not "John Wayne" action. ArmA was told to be a realistic game. Try out how fast the bots react when you driving a tank at them.

    It is possible to improve AI: - Create a mod folder, - copy there the characters folder; with config.cpp only - Add in the config for each soldier Class soldierWB …WG and so on { …. sensitivity = 16; // or smaller or bigger! ….. } Create a PBO file of the character folder and congratulations, if no errors were made, you have modded the awareness of the ArmA troops. Make the same operation with the weapons config (copy folder with config.cpp to your mod folder) And make at all weapons the Midrange, Maxrange parameters bigger! (Careful: where the short-range ends, the midrange should begin, and at the end of midrange long-range) Make the PBO of the folder. Now you have modded the weapons. Your soldiers can detect and shoot enemies from greater distances. But the problems are great: The campaign becomes unplayable! -You will be detected in every sabotage mission. The AI will kill you and you will not be able to aim as they. -The firefights will take place at great distances, no possibility to see the enemy. -The AI is to “silly†programmed to fight at those ranges. If you fight in bush, forests and so on… you are dead. Headshot from nowhere through all this shit… All in all ArmA becomes more like hardcore sim. But the game fun is for the most of the players over. You are simply no RAMBO; you become looser (without tank, copper, sniper rifle). BIS would had big problems to sell this game, and the bots are silly enough to get shot by the old good “DELTA FORCE - game†tactics. I see forward to play good community mods, where people get the balance between game-play and realism-sim. But without the reprogramming of the bot core – I think its almost impossible.

    --- I hope the 1.08 patch is not the last one. If you shoot, Second, the AI detects you. And the Ai is good with enemy detection in forests, night, fog.. Its funny that always AT guys shoot at far away targets, and the MGs do not.

    After the OPF:R modifications the ArmA AI seems stupid to me: (I have the Super AI on and set the skillz at 1.0.) Examples: - Running in the desert (or the airfield) on enemy soldier standing with face to you, he will open fire under 300 m range. (Detection radius is to small.) - The enemy fire (fewer than 4 rifles) is noobish. They can’t hit you fast and you can take them all down. (No one can shoot…) - 2 Soldiers lying in squad awaiting an attack; against them running 30 men. Order: “ 2 engage…!†And 2 stand up and run into the gun. …. I want to create more difficult AI with the main config.cpp modifications. At least make them: - better shoot - increase the detection radius - Rate of fire What should I add to a config??? In the class men{} Or to Alpha125SoldierE: SoldierEMG{} AS A TEST In the addon config only for snipers. By the way camouflage = 0.70; Is just a joke! The Black-OPS are wearing the same uniforms and can stay longer undetected…. The big problem of my mod is that the campaign will become unplayable…

    The ArmA AI engine is made for kids; I think. In the VBS2 engine a mashine gunner creates supressive fire from 500m (commercial video). My skill is set to 1.0, super KI enabled. My CPU is a Athlon 939 - 3800 X2 with 2Gz double core... EXAMPLE: Im driving at an US marine squard with my soviet T72. The terrain is - airfield, 12 o'clock. Sun shining. I made a waypoint, looking through optics at them, see the reaction and distance. 300m - US soldiers do nothing. I hold for 30 seconds - nothing. 200m - earth should vibrate under thier feet... The CO - lets have a look through my binocular! After 10 sec. No reaction. 150m - Soldiers - oh shit, a tank (150m); lets take cover! The marines going down under my PKT, AT soldier fires. Thats definetly not a military sim, if the bots detecting a tank from 200 - 150 m!! I wanna fix this too.

    ArmA Group Link II Plus!

    I’m very pleased to see this great add-on. Wow. Can you make just a “game logic “ sign to put somewhere in the map to activate the group link scripts made as PBO file? (Like the dynamic weather was made?) I don’t really like to leave the game to edit the ini files if the mission I made is just “silly†and only for myself. The fun for the really good missions is immense with this add-on – but the really good missions are very rare. I think the guys like me just play with the editor testing addons and themselves. (Too stupid for making good missions with great scripts..)

    AK-47/74s and their reputation....

    You all speak of the AK-47, AKM, (AK-74), if it would be always the same rifle; no matter where it was made! In the US you can buy a cheep Chinese AK. If its shit, only a very silly person can say ALL AKs in the word are like this shit! The AK is made in at least 50 countries, and the producing quality is depending on what they want to have! In Egypt or China they try to produce their AKM (modification) under 50$. A Czech AKM variant (for export) costs about 50$. Russians are pride to tell you that their AK-74 costs about 1000 $! In Afghanistan you can buy a AK on the market for only 50 bucks. Do you want a stabilized and accurate weapon made of high quality steel; you have to pay for it. And the weapon costs. If you want to have a rifle for the masses, running in a great production numbers and for export (made of recycling goods ), the price can fall with the manufacturing quality…

    Jeah, we need girls, children and old people in ArmA; so the game has more feeling of reality. And I wanna sit on a roof in BLACKWATER uniform and sinper all this resistance scum, would be realistic to drive Humwee through the citys... And for the OPF retro mod it would be great if the Guba thakes the stepmother of Viktor Troska prisoner. (Old and very ugly woman.) And when all explodes, Troska screams: YESSS!!!

    The AI of ArmA

    As I started the topic, I wanted to do something against the disappointment of ArmA as an ego shooter, like battlefield and others. To modify the game more realistic, and make the AI more equal to the player, at least in the shooting skills, because that was more or less “easy†to make. I had no fun in some ArmA missions; as an example to lie at the water tower and shoot the enemy troopers in masses. NO one was hiding, no one was throwing smoke grenades, and after the 3 magazine fired no one was able to detect me… If at least some machine gunners would fire at me, the game would have more of an “intended†infantry simulator. Thanks for the answers - i realize its primary a weapon problem. I’m SORRY I answer now, but had some exams, and had to prepare myself all the time... I will try to create for myself a good sniper, shooting at you from 1000m distances (or at least attacking), by modifying SVD and M21 rifles. ___ I can't understand the discussion about "useful and rubbish" comments, everybody has the right to say something! Before you writing, you should just ask yourself: - Could it be interesting what I'm writing for other people? Some people have the ideas, and in the most case not the knowledge how to employ them. Another people have a lot of knowledge and experience but are very fixed at the old solutions. (Some call this as a lack of imagination.) The real genius has both: Creativity and expert knowledge. But these guys are so few that it takes too much time to expect something from them. That’s why we discuss problems, and this is ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION forum..

    I have big problems in the game: When I’m running at -for example a tree- it changes: - geometry - texture dimensions - texture transparency - texture colors It is absolutely horrible in towns! ! ! !!! I have a German version of the game (42€) and have patched it with the first patch V1.01!!! My system: AMD Athlon 3800X2 GeForce6600 SLI 128MB 1GB RAM Windows XP Professional DirectX 9.0c View Distance 912m Display 1280x1024 / 4:3 / 75Hz Terrain Detail very low Object Detail very low Texture Detail very low Shader Detail very low Postprocessing low Anisotropic Filtering deactivated Shadow Detail low Antialiasing Deactivated Blood Detail high Game running at 18 - 25 fps Another errors: -When in building, soldiers that you should see from the window, disappear. Only by aiming at them they are again visible. -When starting a new mission the game starts and needs about 5 seconds to find and display the textures and geometry of objects. I tried a lot of different options but I can not reduce this lod changing! I don’t think this is only an ArmA engine problem. Maybe some kind of errors ONLY in the German version. PLEASE HELP.

    Demo Troubleshooting thread.

    I downloaded and installed the demo 3 times, and it don't start. The guys from BIS are hoping that all the hardcore OPF players will buy ArmA and make in their Mods a good game of this .... . So they can just relax and sell the game. I don’t think so. At least some Russian addonmakers have no longer interest to support that game. (flashpoint.ru) And I can fully understand them. The bots, the game options, formations, almost everything is the same, from OPF. How you want to fascinate people with this? And no – there will be no help – the support people are to busy banning someone right now.

    And you have no problem to detect an enemy 500m away? OPF and Arma shoudn't be played at low resolution, you will simply have no chances in multiplayer. And yes, even i can turn everyting on high and view distance at 5000 m, when i have resolution of 640X480... But look - Arma TEXTURES have better sights tha crapy 800X6000.

    lool fubarno1 That was a good one! Question 1 : Have you patched the game with 1.02? or 1.01? Question 2 : Have you tried Gothic3 with your system? Question 3 : Do you have the feeling you need your 2GB Ram memory? Try to look at your FPS with FRAPS programm. PS: It is tradition to play OPF related games without shadows !!!

    I hope a good patch, released soon, will solve our probs. I have a question, to all gamers and the BIS support team: How important is to have more than 1GB RAM memory? I want to buy one more 1GB for my PC; I have 2x512MB memory for each processor (have Athlon 3800X2). Should I get 2GB, or it is better to save the money for a better graphics card (90€) and try tu buy it in February? What would you tall me to do? (Especially for ArmA!

    This is an OPF engine issue... Happy xmas. And keep cool testing another patches which are killing and adding old/new bugs. Just : WAIT THE 1.96 version... But ounly if you are able to install them.
