  1. I agree with you Baddo, I could get into a tank and surely affect it by pushing buttons and pulling levers. But could I controll it..? When it comes to choppers and jets I think its obvious that a "normal" persons cant do much good in the seat.

So what is more realistic? Have all soldiers trained to do everything, or lock vehicles for some classes?

Maybe the best would be to randomly alter the controls for the classes that shouldnt be able to fly? They can jump into a chopper and try to fly it, but you have to learn how to everytime unless you are a pilot  tounge2.gif

  2. I made my own OFP-mod for my friends and myself. There I restricted planes and choppers to pilots only and tanks to crews. Easy to implement.

You can also do this in your own missions without modding the game.

I think this is fun because then its fun to be a pilot/crew and your friends must keep you alive to have transport smile_o.gif

  3. I have CH hotas so combining rudders, throttle and stick is no problem for me. But I would like to have a steeringwheel also...

Im gonna follow this thread to see if someone finds a solution. Tired of googling the subject..

edit: maybe I have to do some hardwarework and rebuild a ch produkt into a wheel, to bad they are so expencive...

  4. I wonder if its possible to make a real holographic effect with a reticle texture wich is placed  about one meter (i know that the Eo has virtual 45 meters but i think it doesnt really matter) before the weaponmodel and put a alphatexture on the window of the Eo (or Aimpoint or whatever) wich has the ability to see the reticle through everything that it can't be hidden behind something. Just like the OFP bug with some Windows where you can see through everything except some faces with a special texture.

I hope somebody understands what I want to say...

If so do you think its possible?

Yes I understand. And I hope its doable. Because right now the aimpoint do not serve its purpose..

  5. I could be wrong but I think some armies actually run over their soldiers in tanks, not running over with treads of course but running them over so they are under the bellies..I forget if its true or why they do it.

I was runned over by a T55 during my year in FDF. The idea was to play dead or something and wait until the track was less den 1 m in front of you, then you were out of sight of the crew and could roll under (or to the side) of the tank. When you were out on the other side you rolled on your back and popped the commander if he was turned out. That was the theory....

But I suppose they had us do the excercise for the mental part too. It didnt bother me seeing the tracks coming for me nor laying under the belly. But I suppose it wouldnt be so nice if the crew didnt want you to survive....

  6. Because back 5 years ago OFP was fresh and new. A change from Quake 3/ generic FPS was welcomed, even though the system requirements were ahead of their time...

ArmA is neither fresh nor new. In fact, I will go so far to say that ArmA atm is not even as good as OFP 1.96 with the BAS marine addons and ECP/dynamic range.  Controversial? Yeah. Do I believe it? Absolutely.

Go play Doom then if you want to play a game that was fresh and new.

    I prefer doom3...

  7. Hi all

Speaking directly to this threads subject. This is normaly stuff I talk about on the CoC developer forums but I think the concept worthy of raising here on this occasion.

The obvious form of game play I expect evolve with the more professional level servers such as Zeus, CIA etc will be continuous multi-week PVP Co-op battles. With various squads assigned according time zone relieving each other in battle so that the battles are 24 hour.

There will be some software requirements that we at the CoC are interested in creating or have already built to support such a system. Logistics, network synchronisation etc.

I think we can create server farms maintained so that battles can be localised to time zones and geographical location and there an architecture based on Network Services that will required in order to negotiate server swap and update. It may need a truce time concept to enable us to do this say 10 minutes to synch servers and for players to be switched.

The new functionality and some lateral thinking should allow it to be made with the current improved ArmA network code and scripting capabilities.

The system will also allow us add in fall over and recover server capabilities and in the long term share tasks on servers. It will also be invaluable for use in VBS

Now can anyone tell us its impossible?

Because that always motivates everyone at the CoC.

    Kind Regards Walker

THAT is impossible, thats a fact! No way it can be done...

  8. I have never understood why its always so much talk about BF2 in this forum... And everyone is saying that you cant compare arma with BF2, and yet most people are doing it (often the same persons).

Shit, now I have talked about it also. We better just stick to discussing ArmA, thats the reason of this forum.

  9. Ok ])rStrangelove, but you'll not find anything interesting, cause there are no free textures... all the sites (turboSquid for example) doesn't give free textures...  sad_o.gif

There is a reason that textures arent free. Its alot of hard work.

My impression is that there is a bigger demand of texture artists than 3d-modellers in this community, and there is a reason for that..

  11. I would like a merge between WGL and ECP. Both are serious outstanding projects.

I sort of did it once but never again... I took all the values from WGL and added it into ECP (very simplified explanation...)

Today I play WGL because of the gameplay (and FDF ofcourse! )

  12. I hope for this:

If you zoom with the sniper riffle scope, that you can give him a "zoom sound" , like a bsssssssssd... zoomed, and ssssssssssb zommed back.

And i hope for that if you do big buildings or like ships for planes, that you have unlimited roadways and geometrys. Because in OFP was a bug, if you had to big buildings or units, like in the Tiberian Genesis Mod with the Heavy Factory of GDI, it is big, and you can walk in it tought. And sometimes the roadways fall out, dont know why, but it really sucks and can make me angry  band.gif

I think i hope for more things too, but i dont tell them :P

I guess you are talking about sound effects for sci-fi mods as you also mention Tiberian Genesis mod?

So yes, there is a reason to add sound effects to scope-zoom  smile_o.gif

  13. On the other hand you have the matrox TripleHead2GO, but like that review mentioned (good link by the way), it isn't the perfect solution. Depending on the grapic cards, you also won't be able to run higher resolutions then 3840x1024, PLUS it won't allow you to use SLI or quad SLI (afaik) as it only let you connect 1 monitor input on the TripleHead2GO box.

I surely have it wrong (i hope  icon_rolleyes.gif ), but it looks we are still stuck where we were 5 years ago (no 'true' triple monitor support).

Yes, SLI doesnt support more than 2 monitors. But you have it wrong with tripplehead2go as you can have 3 monitors with SLI.

You just connect the tripplehead2go to your SLI-master (or whatever that card is called that you normally connect your monitor/LCD to). That is also the way to do it with one monitor, you dont need to monitors to benefit from SLI.

But crossfire is not compatible because of the ATI-drivers..

    If I understand it right...
