CiA Petition Letter to BIS and DnA's Response

I am not an elitist nor roleplayer, I'm very casual I would say, but I do like teamwork and a feeling of realism. If I had the chance I would have signed this letter, maybe even write it if I played as much as I used to. The points brought up are definite changes from the last 3 games in this series, which affect the teamwork and use of different weapons. Teamwork does not mean roleplay. I don't like to play that way, that way you played when you were a hardcore military elitist roleplayer. What I do want is teamwork. Imagine changing the game team fortress so no real difference existed between the players and all could rambo their way. I'm sure it would not be as fun anymore. About DnA's letter: It's always been a game for me too, and what kept me playing is the game mechanics and team play. Some inertia, weapon collision model and less dumbed down navigation doesn't make it into a "true simulator", it just keep it as the fantastic game it always has been. Well, as long as you implement/keep "configuration hooks" I cannot really complain about different visions :) But you have to make that awful "zoom in on player position" button a difficulty setting that can be turned off.... please.. That completely kills 90% of all the missions I like to play..

    Realistic navigation difficulty setting??

Ok, the dreaded red circle is gone. Very good. Now if BIS could remove the button that moves the map view to players position. It's no idea, yet, to port over my navigational training missions as long as players can press a button to know where they are... Arma3 is in my opinion so much better than A2:AO (factions, units and so on will come, I'm talking about the engine) but some unnecessary design flaws holds it back.

Ah good. Then it's time for me to re-start arma3, I could not play with that red circle :D

    4. Red circle on map - Will we be able to turn it off as it should be a difficulty setting? Very good letter and I would sign it too if I could.

    An Old Trend renewed

The forums right now remind me of the time when armed assault and arma2 were released. A lot of new people and a lot of new opinions and wishes. It will calm down again.
  7. I can't find the words to describe how grateful I am for what you have done. This island is my, by far, favorite island in the arma series. Sincerely thank you.

Agree. Missed that function since OFP. Sometimes I need better awareness while still keeping my crew in combat modus.

    Realistic navigation difficulty setting??

I hate the current A3 map system. I guess it makes sense the year 2035 so ok.. But I prefer and would like to navigate with a "paper map" as in OFP, armed assault and arma2. Mods about today, vietnam, ww2 and what not will have to make their own mapsystem, and there's already one good mod (tao folding map). I just hope that BIS will add a normal papermap too that one can use ingame. Imo A3's map is too interactive and is always hooked up to the gps (it is the gps). I personally also despise that red circle. That should be a difficulty option and not forced on you!! If you have a gps you should be able to pinpoint your location instead of getting a big circle.... I have played so many missions where I'm lost and need to locate my position and get somewhere only using a normal map and compass since 2001. Right now in A3 that is not possible. Either you know everything or you have nothing. It's possible to be lost with a map and a compass, not with a gps..

ArmA III is the last Arma

They said it before many times. Arma2 was the final product, then Arma3 popped up to our surprise. I'm sure not even BIS can say when they are done. Personally it doesnt matter for me. It's all about the game mechanics. Even if A3 will be graphically outdated in a couple of years I will still be playing it. I would probably still be playing OFP if armed assault and arma didnt come out. Ofcourse graphics and features matter (that why I dont play OFP anymore), but a beautiful game is worth nothing if it isnt interesting.
  13. I stopped playing with tanks when armed assault came. OFP interiors werent realistic or good but they worked. I lost a lot of immersion and me and my brain dont like to get stuck in one view only. I also had better overview without turning out as I could use the other viewports for a wider view than optics. It's strange but I could "rest" in OFP in a long tank session by just getting away from the optics and look inside the turret. When I'm stuck in optics I must look away from the monitor do get the same mental rest, or turn out but that can be fatal... I never play in 3d mode, doesnt matter if it's BIS games, simulators, car games, FPS or what not, so things like interiors are very important. They dont have to be perfect.
  14. I think Tyrant-0 bring up a relevant question. Since armed assault too many missions do have some strange setups. Personally I play on veteran with all help off and I ask myself very often if I, or anyone, would ever do what I'm supposed to do in RL. Sure it's a game and yes every mission can be won. But my entertainment is not to "achieve" a win, but the gameplay itself. When I'm stuck in a situation that is stupid without a reason it's not fun for me. That very same situation but with a more believable story is much better, sometimes it is supposed to be hard. But to "plan" a difficult mission that is 95% failure when it seems obvious that a few changes could even the score? That only leads to frustration. Nothing wrong with a hard mission, but make it feel like I fail, not the mission itself. That's why I stick to usermade missions, or play the old OFP classics in CWR2 (buy A2 for that mod, you wont be disappointed. The CWR and res campaign.... oh yes.) edit: in all fairness, A2 had better mission than armed assault and I enjoy quite a few, so I guess the full A3 will give a better experience than the showcases.

    about arma 2 operation arrowhead

Probably no reply as people know this thread will be locked. You should find the GLT missilebox thread and ask your questions there. Always find the addon specific thread and post your questions there, never make a new thread about an existing addon. Welcome to the forum. It is a nice place and you will get plenty of help, just read the rules and follow them :)
  16. The satchels needs a change. As Killzone_Kid said, they need a detonator like a weapon. It's a gamebreaker when one guy places the only crucial satchel and then dies. No one can detonate that explosive after that. Make it a proper weapon and most problems regarding satchels would be gone. And the action menu need some TLC too. In what way I dont know but it's a pita to try to get the right action sometimes. So many times I start to check my gear when I want to get in...
  17. Wtf... That is far from good. Ok BIS, fix it. I thought that menu only was present when you defined something or you had more than 1 playable slot in the same team. Ok, less for CWR-team to do so that's good :)
  18. Press teamswitch and the list with playable units come up. To the left of that list you have a small map with the units location, in this case it's only one as it is SP. Can still be used though to get your exact location like a GPS. On this screenshot I'm playing mission 'Saboteur' - CWC. The green circle is my exact location and you can see it next to the 'Insertion point' marker.
  19. Please remove the teamswitch function. As of now anyone can anytime press the teamswith and then you will have a GPS showing your location and what not. I dont know if this is related but you could remove the "host" feature also as it's SP only campaign. Thank you :)

    Steam discussion

I bought arma3 through sprocket. I dont need to be online after activating the game through steam. I dont care about steam and I dont have to care about steam. I just start arma3 and if need be I can let steam update arma3 automagicly for me. After Dwardens answer a few pages back I'm not worried for a possible steam-going-out-of-business either. I almost hated steam but as I had to choose to play arma3 or not I installed it. It was no drama.

    Oculus Rift VR headset

I watched it and crossed my eyes and got something that looked like a 3D effect in the "third" picture that are created between the two original. So it looks like the 3D is working.

  23. Thank you for the help. It wasn't your bug. I updated to latest beta and disabled the mods and it works just fine. As I want to play with JSRS I also updated the CBA and I had to use an updated test cba common.pbo due to the latest beta. Now it all work as intended.
  24. What beta is recommended to use when I play CWR2? I finally got past the mission where I am to help the guerilla. I ended up as cargo instead of driver and the AI took the right route (not allowed to turn left into the gravel road it seems). Now I'm stuck at "undercover" at the first cutscene where my front passenger gets out to talk to the russian check point (he will offer some vodka if I remember right?). He jumps out from the truck, takes a few steps and stops. Then nothing happens. I restarted 3 times and same thing. So as people have played this campaign through and I get stuck now and then I wonder what beta I should use? From what I read CBA got some problems with the latest. Can anyone please try CWC v1.06 mission "undercover" just to see if it's a bug or on my side? It's just to drive down the gravel road until you get to the cutscene. The only addons I use are CBA and JSRS. Thanks.
  25. Thank you for your port SHJStudio, and that you will continue to improve it! Danke :)
