    Do I suck at leading?

You need to report enemies you see (long right-click, kind of awkward in ArmA compared to OFP), that makes a huge difference. Edit: Yes, they are really blind. Even if I tell them to scan horizon they don't discover anything until it stands in front of their nose.
  2. "Does your Desktop resolution match the ingame resolution?" Yes. Something I noticed, it doesn't hang at the "normal" wait-for-host screen (the one where the text is at the bottom left), ESC works alright there. It hangs at a different screen where "wait for host" is in the middle. Weird. I'll try the LAN cable thing next time, maybe this is enough to get ArmA to exit.
  3. Thanks for the many replies! I'm using a regular AA shortcut without parameters. I have disabled the WinXP firewall, no other firewall software is installed (I hate those things). I can Alt-Tab out of the game, use the start menu, task bar etc., but I can't use any other software because the foreground of the screen is taken by AA. AA doesn't use any CPU, it just sits there and won't die.
  4. I'm running 1.08. With Qtracker joining worked, and playing kind of worked, too (except for the usual lag), but after leaving the game and clicking "disconnect" ARMA hangs and I have exactly the same problem again.
  5. I'm sure it doesn't work with the task manager. ESC doesn't work either(I've tried esc, alt+f4, alt+tab, strg+c, alt+x, and anything else I could think of). This is a fresh Win XP with not much more than ArmA and the ATI driver. I just installed the game and patched it, so I don't think a reinstall would help. I also disabled the WinXP firewall and AntiVir Guard... I'm going to try Qtracker now instead of the ingame browser, maybe this will help.
  6. Hi, when I try to join a multiplayer game, ArmA hangs with the message "Wait for host". Since nobody thought it necessary to add a cancel button, I hat to try to kill the game from the Win XP task manager, but it just won't die and I need a hard reset to get rid of it. How is that even possible? I never had this problem with any other program. Thanks

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

I hope for a greatly improved addon system. It is a real mess in OFP. - Addon versions. - Being able to see exactly what addons a mission depends on and what units are contained in an addon package. - A centralized addon repository on BIS servers - no more broken links, no more spending hours searching chaotic forums/websites. - Automatic addon download.

    AI in ArmA

I don't think that's too exciting. They probably didn't do it because they analyzed their environment and developed a tactic, but because they were scripted to do it, like "if there is no path into the house, split up und break in". That's an easy way to give the impression of intelligent behaviour in a confined game like HL2, but it is not feasible in a huge environment like OFP.
  9. yes, it does make sense. Otherwise all news in every language would be thrown in one database, and that would be chaos. People would get search results from languages they don't even understand I was talking about the ADDONS section, not NEWS. And the really funny thing is that the descriptions in the german addons section are in english (!), so there is absolutely no point in keeping the addon databases seperate.
  10. BAS, a very good example for what I mean. I can understand if they don't want to pay for addon hosting, and I can understand if they don't want to invest any more time. But come on: why did they have to give away the domain, if it would have cost them 3 bucks a month to keep it and put simple links to the forum topics where you can find their addons? It's just sad that so much good stuff gets buried under thousands of post in this forum when it would be so easy to make it accessible. you have already said it, domain cost money, and most of the time a firstclass domain (which have a good flexablility) come with webspace and bandwidth which cost lot more then just 3 bucks, I can get a domain with 3 MB webspace (enough for the website, a few screenshots, and maybe even the download) and 5 GB Traffic for 0,49 Euro per month. Yes, but I'm sure you know that it is almost impossible top find something on a 150-pages-topic when the search doesn't show you on which page of a topic the results were found.
  11. Oh - of course, it is completely obvious to search news instead of addons when i'm looking for addons. Yes, I found that out in the meantime. Thanks!
  12. I would think that someone who has managed to learn how to use all the editor tools and the OFP scripting language could create a simple page within 30 minutes by following some random HTML tutorial. Even using one of those simple online website editors would be better than misusing this forum as a content management system.
  13. Or i could just click on the "english" flag on ofp.info (sigh). Yes, I have found it now that someone has told me that the addons are available there, but initially I had no reason to think that with switching the language I would also switch to a completely different addon database. It is an interesting phenomenon that whenever a person offers constructive criticism on a free project, someone comes and says something like: I said "OFP's addon system isn't really up to its task", and I'll repeat it. You never had the message "couldn't find addon xyz" or "someone has modified config bin/something" when joining a multiplayer game? Everything was fine when there were 2 or 3 official addons, but the system can't cope with all the different mods, configs and addon versions that are available today. There are no reliable checks for addons when you join a server (today I only found out in the briefing that I didn't have the island needed for the mission and would have drowned in the sea), you don't get a list of needed addons from the server but get only kicked out with the message "couldn't find some_cryptic_filename", etc. There are enough topics on this in the OFP2 suggestions forum, I won't repeat everything all over.
  14. I didn't say anything about addon hosting on a server. A web site like a described it takes no more than 20 kB space (excluding screenshots). An average free hoster allows 1 GB traffic per month. You do the math. I also didn't say anything about buying software for creating the website, quite the contrary, I explicitely named 2 applications that are free, easy to use, and sufficient to create a website that contains all the necessary information. You didn't actually read what I wrote, did you?
  15. are you joking ? just tested what you said and got over to ofp.info and searched the news ... 6 results for "gaia" 8 for "trinity" 3 for "vit apc" (not "vit-apc") When I go to ofp-info I get automatically redirected to the german language version, and there are no results for the searches. I didn't know that each language had its own addon database - that doesn't make really sense.
