Uhm dunno if you guys know that but there are 2 teams working on 2 CoD titles in parallel, so each team has about 2 years to finish one. I agree they dont seem to use a lot of time to get original ideas though, its always the same.

Private mercs def, you as a mission designer have all options on the table. You could even depict 2 merc brothers who get the feeling their company left them behind because of the high costs of a rescue op and so in turn they decide to switch sides. ;)

Do you guys fly with a joystick?

I'm using my MS Sidewinder with FF, old but still awesome. Wish there would be a way to edit the FF fx in ArmA2/OA though. -
OA runs way better, mate. There's no reason not to get it.

Turn off automatic updates and maybe use a lan cable instead wlan.

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops Trailer...

Lol, what kind of egocentric post is that? You 1. Get sick very often 2. Have childish attitude yourself but hate to play with other kids online 3. Demand something of high quality from a free community without paying any money yourself 4. Tell us MoH Beta is more fun and has better gfx than COD7 although you never have played COD7  -

Here's what i call Mini scenarios: These are random events creating simple tasks for small groups or single units. A script would choose a random location marker, a random scenario and spawns all things that are needed for the scenario. If you want to collect points just go there and do whatever is necessary. Shouldnt take long if the path is clear. Examples: - a unit has called in saying a humvee/truck has a flat tire. unit needs transport or a repair truck. - contact has been lost with a rescue team going after a downed pilot. someone needs to check the last known location of the team and/or find the pilot. - an elder has asked for military assistance with a civilian uprising in his town. a humvee or armed truck should show up there and check the situation. showing presence should end the uprising. - a lonely farm being used as a cache has been reported by informants. someone needs to check this info, but it could be fake or a trap. - satellites have discovered heavy mobile com traffic from a remote location. It seems a secret meeting is set up there. Military presence is low in those areas so anyone nearby is authorized to check. - 2 bodyguards have defended a local politician from an enemy ambush and are asking for military escorts. - a civil medical team have asked for assistance while helping several wounded civilians after a terrorist bombing in their hometown. additional medics are needed. -

Imo Domination/Evolution/CTI/etc etc are all outdated and dont work like they used to (on Sahrani that is). New ideas are needed, old ideas need to be adapted, a new outlook on the bonus/punishment - Ranks & points system is needed. Some things that have been roaming around in my head for some time now: Motivation Imo just securing towns is not much of a motivation any longer - the WHY is missing. Answering 'WHY we need this town' will give players a realistic reason and stronger gameplay experience. When securing locations you never really want to control old ruins etc. So instead of big 'secure town' markers put in big 'search town for weapon dealer' for example. Or drugs. Or money. Or a bomb workshop. Something that fits the scenario to boost the atmosphere. MHQ porting = Single Player gameplay MP is what is is because you're not alone. Working in teams is the essence of OpF/ArmAX so things like managing transports to the frontline should be in the mission designers focus, not killing, destroying objects every minute. MHQ scripts destroy gameplay and need to go once and for all. Collecting points to get higher ranks has been a great invention in ArmA MP, but points have to be given for the right reasons. - very low points per kill. You're after the objective, not after killing 500 terrorists. (there are 200.000 terrorists in the country) - big bonus when staying together in a group - big losses when killing civilians/civilian buildings - punishment for driving around alone (spawning of more attackers / IEDs on roads) Responsibility let ppl take responsibility for their equipment: add leasing of vehicles. you give points, you own it. You get it back to a base, you get your points back. Loosing tanks/helicopters should cost a fortune. Suddenly ppl will take less risks. In order to work this would need to be thought through though, like what happens if somebody steals ur vehicle and wrecks it, or if you die do you still own it etc etc. if you lock it what if a friend wants to drive it? All in all ppl should be rewarded for staying together, whereas lonely players should constantly be in danger. -
I'd say DICE still cares for their customers, but as an official posted lately they (the devs) f**ked up their internal source management. Once they try work on patches nobody can tell which file version went into which patchfile etc etc - no joke. Thats (the official version) why patches are an issue atm.

An 18+ raiting on a game is like a big STRAIGHT BUY sign for any kid. No need to look up features or DRM annoyances lol. ;) -

-)rStrangelove replied to jur-yes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
He says that from what he remembers OpF & Resistance were more fun to play back then. Anything he suggests has never been in OpF or Resistance though. So i dont see the point. Yes, we all want better atmosphere. Go play some MP COOP. The game is what you make it. -
ARMA3 - Brand new engine or backward compatibility?
-)rStrangelove replied to maddogx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Gods know i'd be more than willing to learn another scripting language from the ground up if i get a brand new ArmA3 which is worth the hazzle. 1. A squad AI that gives a realistic impression of inhouse fighting/close quarters. Covering corners, taking cover, giving hand signals to advance/retreat etc. 2. Better com sounds. Switching from a whispering mode (stealth mode) to normal talk (safe mode) to screaming (combat mode) automaticly. 3. Physics. 4. Transparent models for LOD switching. (new LOD model slowly becomes static, old LOD model slowly disappears) -
Sorry to hear you have problems with ArmA. As an adult programmer you should know that precise feedback can be given only if you provide precise information. So which mission did you try to play? This community can help you with 99% of all problems, but you need to show good will. A general 'game doesnt work as i want out of the box' thread won't help with anything.

Go into ironsight, lean, then keep tapping sidestep key until you see the target. Works for me.

Buying 4 ArmA2:OAs or 1 Medal of Honor Limited Edition is about the same price, not really that expensive tbh. -
Does Shadow Details in OA video settings affect your FPS significantly? (Poll)

I can recommend the MSI Afterburner OnScreenDisplay. Displays fps in all games, works like a charm. -

-)rStrangelove replied to Kings_25's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
They seem to think that adult gamers are a loosing market i guess. What other explanation is there? By dumping features in fps games they loose adults on one side but recruit kids on the other. I guess kids as potential buyers bring more to the table. -

-)rStrangelove replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
Operation Flashpoint Lonely Island 3 would be better name tbh. Story goes like: "In OPF:LI3 will allow the player to experience the traumatic effects of the events of Dragon Rising. Psychological issues like feeling lonely on a patrol, repairing flat tires on hummvees and guarding a small valley against invading wild boars and other dangers will put the player under massive stress not to press the 'aboard mission' button. Also: Lonely Island 3 will feature 200 archievements: can you find all 200 red exploding barrels [tm] within 48 hours? That and more! PRE ORDER NOOOOOWWWW! :D :D :D -
Love the lighting, great atmosphere. :D

The End of the Tactical Shooter.
-)rStrangelove replied to Kings_25's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I think the main problem for me personally is the feeling that the 'evolution' of shooters goes backwards rather than forward. If you compare RoqueSpear to GTA4 for example its easy to get a vision of how a TRUE RoqueSpear 2010 would be like IF the devs would stay true to the scope of the series. In a true RoqueSpear2010 we would: - get a HQ message while walking around in a huge training center, then enter a temp briefing room, get a report of an emergency situation - get gear ingame, then mount our police vehicle and drive to the crime scene through a huge city - block all entries around the target building, setting up guards / additional police - recon the building - get back to field hq, study blueprints of the building, mark target zones and stationary tangos with heat scans from a helicopter - get in pos, wait for the GO - storm in , do the job Instead we get shooters where you kill hundreds of ppl, have unlimited ammo (hundreds of rifles around), can jump 30m without getting a scratch, dodge hundreds of bullets and just get a weird marmelade effect on screen. Thanks, mainstream. -
More civilians and rideable horses. WWest mods, here we come!

We need dynamic terrain meshes. For a plain desert this could greatly decrease polys and for 'real' ditches / trenches we'd need polys every 15cm. Sorta like terrain generators work with detail compression to reduce polys.
