  2. My rig just about scraped by in ArmA 1, so I want to upgrade it so it'll eat ArmA 2. Gonna buy it soon as it's available in the UK. Current Specs: AMD Athlon 64 ~2.4GHz 2 GB RAM GeForce 7900 GS 512 MB Windows XP Could somebody recommend a new CPU and Graphics Card? I plan to buy another GB stick of RAM. My power supply blew up a short while back and I got a new motherboard so I think it'll take whatever I update to. Thanks, Dan

    Enemy Accuracy way to good.

    I still reckon BIS should have added an accuracy slider to troops in the editor. That way the mission designer can choose the marksmanship ability of each unit to reflect the scenario. If ArmA is anything to compare it to, the overall precision probably needs tweaking down a little.

    "We all know what red barrels do!" Brilliant, love it! :D Thanks Codies, for making screenshots early on that perhaps coerced BIS into making ArmA 2 as good as they could! The units and graphics don't stand up to scrutiny compared with ArmA 2.

    Flashlights on the guns?

    Rhodite, your PR button's broken. I would love to see flashlights added to rifles. So in open combat it might be wiser to use IR or illum, etc. Not all gameplay, especially in ArmA, is combat. You might be searching for IEDs, booby traps or mines. You might be conducting SAR in secured territory. Strap a torch to your AK47 - your crew of rebels could use it in the absence of NV goggles and IR tech, or even to signal to each other over distance. And has already been stated in games like STALKER, it really does just add a load of atmosphere if implemented subtly. An unprofessional enemy patrol might make itself an easy target by using their flash lights in the open. There's much more of an argument for than against adding them to ArmA 2. And there's always the option of not using them, even if they are added.

    Agreed, the current method sounds really bad. You shouldn't lose ammo pouch space because the M136 is one shot. ArmA (and if I recall correctly OFP) has had better community made methods for ages.
  9. We're a new ArmA unit that's recently started out, and we're looking for a good value server host. What we're after is: Good performance (good enough for ArmA that is). 20-30 slots. Several GB storage. Easy access to add and remove addons and missions, and executables such as ACE installers. Preferably in or near the UK. Can any clan admins recommend a good provider?     Exactly, you have to take into account why you're actually playing the game. I think the best method would be to have the "blacking out" tweakable in mission, or if that's too complex just have an option to disable it via game logic. Few people will argue that the ACE portrayal isn't accurate, but many question it's value in a game. For my own personal style of what I want from ArmA, I do want a weight system as such. I don't want people to be able to carry as much kit as they want and still expect to sprint. But I find the current level in ACE frustrating all the same. And i'd say for most, frustration doesn't equal good gameplay. Again, true. There should be something in place to punish you for carrying excess weight, and having to regain your breath before you can aim straight is great. Because it doesn't actually put you out of the game, sitting there starting at your blank screen because you had to sprint away from an enemy helicopter. So slowing and wobbly aim is good. One shot kills are good. A complex Hellfire system is good. Collapsing from blood loss is good. But I can't say I feel the same for the "blacking out" issue.

  12. Noticed this too but it's not a great example, could be that the RHS Hind armour values are too high. I know Hinds are likened to flying tanks but the Soviets lost dozens of them to irregular forces in Afghanistan...

    Ha, no it isn't, not by a long shot. The ArmA system is flawed, and by the look of it it's more extreme on certain set-ups. Yes bright light blinds you a little in real life. Perhaps if you've been sat indoors for 12 hours beforehand. But not when you spend most of your time outdoors (as ArmA simulates). This aspect isn't realism, and if possible should be fixed as a bug.

  19. Loving the latest release, thanks for fixing the Apache armour especially! Know this isn't the best place to ask, but I can't find it in the docs, and I can't seem to find my arma.rpt file to find out myself using the weapon script. Could somebody please tell me the classnames for the FN FAL Para and its magazine? Thanks.

    Clanwarz has excellent support but seems far too weak for ArmA. Waiting for a response from squadserver, they'd be perfect if they're still alive.
