  1. My personal vote:

    - fix collision detection of objects in general NOW (means correct acceleration considering mass and, if feasible, internal structure [object inside object e.g. for vehicles])

    - add in 2035 ragdoll when every kid owns a supercomp :D , ArmA-54 MUST have ragdoll

    - death animations? dead is dead, even an animation during that a dying unit makes a salute while dying is ok for me.

How in the name of science are you able to think that collision detection has anything what so ever to do with acceleration and mass physics?

  2. Can't we just implement the physics engine to work with dead bodies which have already completed their death animation?

Btw, have they fixed the utter horrible vehicle physics? I mean every car goes up to 120 km/h in 5 seconds and holds it steady there, even a fucking bus. Then when you run into a bush (example) you slow down to 0 km/h instantly, and then speed up again.

    It's like having m = 1 in basic equations like E = mv^2/2

  3. Hello everybody, this is my first post. Some of my ideas...

Huge (optional) training at the beginning of the game. OFP series (OFP and ArmA, not OFP2) is awesome and is one of the most complex game on the market, but unfortunately it doesn't have proper training.

In my opinion, training should contain:

Many hints and tips for military strategies and different approaches to combat

Learning all the keyboard functions and key combination in different situations (please more user-friendly interface)

Shooting with some of the weapons on different targets and driving few vehicles, basics of squad leading

Testing all this in particular situations with guidance - learning on how to be more efficient in combat and more stealthy, how to use terrain, topographic map and compass more efficiently, etc.

Why would you need training for that, just use you brain hehehehehe

  4. 5.54 and 5.56 rounds are designed to bounce around inside somebody. The exit wound from those rounds would not penetrate another person. Therefor it is completely plausible that bodies would provide you cover. Disabling this would make the game even more cheesy.

Wtf is 5,54? No they are not designed to "bounce around" inside a body, do you even know anything about military warfare?

A 5,56x45 NATO FMJ round will penetrate 0,5m of flesh. It would have to be a real fat fuck if the bullet should stay inside the body.

EDIT: ah you might have meant 5,45mm

Isn't it a little late to be asking about such things? And ZerstOren, please get online with 15-30 of your buds, and blow up 20-30 guys in the ragdoll shooter of your liking. And blow up a building or two at the same time, with smoke and fire everywhere. Edit: sorry, forgot.. and please make sure to have another 50-100 AI battling it out as well. Tell me what happens. I don't have any games like that. (Left 4 dead, but that doesn't do the argument justice)

    A little fanboy warning here...

No there aren't any other game out there with the scale of BIS ofp/arma series, that's what makes it so unique and why i love it.

But since BIS have fixed their lack of optimization for the gamecode, ragdoll (or at least ragdoll for already dead persons) shouldn't be impossible.

  5. A body with a kevlar vest? Yep... lets see thats two armor plates it has to go through and a body so I would think it would stop it or if not that it would at least slow it down allowing your vest to stop it. Not all bodies would stop all kinds of bullets but some would.

Yes, but since the vest covers the center of the body (which in this case would lie on the same place for everyone since it is that position the game engine should send to the mp server) you could use it as cover.

  6. But in a game like ArmA sometimes its necessary to use those bodies for cover, and if the server does not show the corpse similarly for everyone playing you will have people complaining about being shot when for them they were hidden. I would love ArmA to have ragdoll but right now it just seems too hard to implement without a significant drop in performance.

    [EDIT]: Beaten by sk3pt

So you mean a body would stop a 5,56 or 7,62? Yeah sure, very plausible.

  7. Your missing the point on multiplayer. The PLAYER LIMIT is dramaticaly reduced when using ragdoll as the server load continues to multiply with every client due to the amount of calculations being sent to the server then to the other clients and vice versa. If that is solved then that will be cool, but so far bandwidth hasn't figured out a way to handle it. A better solution would be partial ragdoll mixed with animations, but I don't know if it's possible.

Doesn't have to be, the only thing having to be sent is the players position on the map, not the exact way the body lies in.

  8. Tell me 1 Simulator that uses ragdoll? I don't think ragdoll will be for this game. It's fun yes but not for this type game. It's not real how the dead bodies floating around there.. And also in Arma you have one big map, no bodies will disappear, now imagine when some bodyes stuck somewhere and start to jump or sth in some reason, It will dropp your FPS badly. Even in MP games with small areas, no bodies on the ground sometime when you dead body stuck into something and starts jump it will drop FPS so yeah, I don't think we need Ragdoll. It will effect performance and will not be so realistic actually...

So you tell me it is real having people die in the exact same way, and not interacting with the terrain at all?

    Ok I'll go try it

Nope didn't work! I tried throwing myself down a hill hoping to get glued to the ground, but it didn't work! I just rolled down to the bottom! Damn real physics, now my spine is broken.

  9. One thing which really needs a complete change is the physics engine (or lack off really). It is the same utter shit from 2001, we need newtonian physics for vehicles, objects, personell etc.

Implement ragdoll for the love of god, if you want a realistic shooter you can't have persons flying like cardboard boxes from a nearby explosion.

And for you persons bitching about ragdoll fucking up multiplayer: it doesn't.

Look at the ragdoll system for half life 2, it's pure awesomeness and works flawless in multiplayer games like counter strike source.
