    Magic radar, plz fix.

BIS' games are the best simulators of large-scale, combined arms warfare, with what seems to be a specific concentration on the infantry aspect. Everything else is secondary and works well enough to accomplish said simulation goal. You are expecting BIS to have equally detailed simulation in every aspect that they give you? Why do you think you have to buy one simulator for tank warfare, one for helicopter warfare, one for planes, one for naval, etc.? Because it's probably virtually impossible to achieve the attention to detail in each of those all within one game, and that's what you're expecting? Arma 2 is not arcade. It is the toughest infantry simulation on the market, and as I said, the best combined arms simulator. Play the games you mentioned if you want 100% detailed experiences of the other aspects, and don't expect any single game to be able to encompass them all in one. As for custom mission design, they are not part of Arma 2 in vanilla state, so direct your complaints at their authors if you must.

Do you even play BIS' games anymore, Beagle? You seem to be doing nothing other than bitching and moaning about them as of late. "More units and a bigger map." Yeah, right. Talk about over-simplification to falsely make your argument seem more dramatic than it is.

    Help building rig $1200 budget

Three threads... Nice one. We don't allow cross-posting here.
  5. Please post your system specs, a more detailed description of the problem, and preferably an image or video that displays it. Right now, we can't help you at all.
  6. Where did you get the idea that it "failed", exactly? Or did you just not like it and decided that it's "failed" for everyone else, too? What exactly did it do negatively? As far as I am aware, we got some great new units, vehicles, weapons, enjoyable campaigns and missions, and some new features like ingame video playback, working shotguns, etc. thanks to BAF and PMC. On top of that, everyone got said engine improvements as well as a Lite version of both DLCs so as to keep multiplayer compatibility. Unless you know something I don't, I would consider it successful.
  7. Yeah, right. 5 MP maps (2 of which are remakes in regards to MW2) vs new campaigns, new missions, new MP missions, new units, new weapons, new vehicles and some new gameplay features (PMC introduced ingame video playback, proper shotgun mechanics), both for the same price. I know which one is worth it and which obviously isn't. As Krycek rightly pointed out, what about all the people that don't download/use addons? I use vanilla A2CO a lot more than anything else.
  8. No, what he said isn't logical. Each Call of Duty game since COD4 has made millions, and two Call of Duty games hold the top two spots in the list of largest entertainment launches ever. They have more than enough money to make the game flawless, but they don't even try. Granted, they don't have to: their fans will lap it up anyways. BIS are not in that position, yet they try to support their games as best as possible.
  9. Indeed, that PC is way too slow. Definitely check system requirements before purchases in the future, but keep in mind that that PC is so old that most modern games won't run very well on it. You'd be better off doing an upgrade.
  10. Remember people, 20 questions were submitted but only 15 were to be answered. There are 20 questions displayed, 5 of which have Spoiler written where their answer would usually be. Therefore, all the questions that were said were going to be answered were answered. ;)
  11. The "help" section is the Troubleshooting section. If you wish to get help in related to what is evidently a performance issue, please post your PC's specifications, i.e. your processor, your graphics card, your RAM, your operating system, etc., as well as the version of Arma 2 you are playing on. Moving to Troubleshooting.
  12. It's a system similar to what BIS did for their missions and campaigns. If you notice, they are not under the "Missions", "MPMissions" and "Campaigns" folders. Instead, they are contained in the missions.pbo, missions_ew.pbo, missions_e.pbo, missions_baf.pbo, missions_pmc.pbo & missions2_pmc.pbo files, all of which are located in the various vanilla addon folders. :)
  13. And watch the MP experience just get worse and worse? No thanks. I have many better, and cheaper, alternatives to Call of Duty.
  14. "the Daily Mail." Stopped reading there. Thank God there are games like Duke Nukem: Forever that deliberately laugh in the faces of these people.

That's because you're playing version 1.00, which is outdated. Please see the first post for the latest version. That error's been fixed, along with many other things. :)
  17. So folks, do you think it's time we decide on the 20 questions to send off to Damu? If so, do you want the poll results that PuFu set up to decide which questions, do you want me to choose them, or do you want to do it some other way?
  18. Development costs for them are $200 million? What? LA Noire, an infinitely better game than any COD game could ever hope to be, had a budget of $100 million.
  19. The constant ear rape took all the enjoyment out of it for me. The terrible music choices, the overly-long dialogue by Sergeant McRacist and his band of generic Marines, and honestly, I heard that the head of the Marine task force was voiced by some famous guy, but he's no easier to listen to. Famous != good voice actor, as BlOps showed me with Mr.Worthington. The audio design of Red River is fucking. Terrible. So much so that it's the most commonly voiced complaint about the game across the reviews for it. I also get a sense that the budget was definitely cut this time around, as most of the weapon sounds seem to be the same as they were in Dragon Rising. The ending to the campaign is just as badly done as it was in Dragon Rising. To me it sounds like they threw it together at the last minute. Hell, there isn't even a proper dramatic cutscene to go along with it. Just the guys standing around with the default stances in formation talking for a few minutes. I can't rip on the core gameplay all that much apart from saying it's nothing too different from any other FPS out there, and the AI are terrible, but that hasn't changed since Dragon Rising. Another thing that hasn't changed from Dragon Rising is the nearly-unlimited sprint. I guess, Gaia, that you were able to look past its shortcomings and enjoy the otherwise decent gameplay mechanics. For me, however, the ear rape and thrown-together storyline just made it an all-round unsatisfying and, quite frankly, annoying experience. I would say, on the other hand, that if I didn't know of any better alternatives, i.e. I was a console player, I would find Red River and maybe even Dragon Rising to be something unique. But I don't only know that there are better alternatives, I also know that one better alternative is the first entry in the series that they supposedly belong to. There, my rant on the game having actually finally played it. And for those of you interested in the mission Gaia said was styled like After Montignac, there is a video playthrough of it that you can find on YouTube. Here's the first part: wFFipagrajc

There's no exfil point in Pre-emptive Strike. You just have to leave the AO. Is there something saying otherwise, which I missed? :butbut:
  21. As many as you deem appropriate.
  22. It's up to you guys. I can do it if you decide you want me to. ;)
  23. I've hated COD since they started treating those who started the franchise worse than the ones who now rake in the dough.
