  1. Anyone able to confirm if the infinite terrain solution that was talked about is there out-of-the-box?
  2. Nice, now I have to wait at least a week before I get mine... You lucky bastard. :p
  3. Your card will run ArmA very well. It will run it at full settings no sweat. However, ArmA II is more demanding than ArmA, especially in the field of graphics. You cannot expect the same performance in ArmA II as you would have in ArmA. And ok, I misunderstood what you wanted to use it for. My bad. However, you will not be able to run the ArmA demo. Only way you could try it with that card is to buy the game itself.
  4. Not with the normal ArmA demo, no. Though your card will run ArmA very well. However, it will not run ArmA II as well. It will still run it above-average, but not as well as it would run ArmA. Using ArmA to gauge what your performance will be like in ArmA II isn't practical.
  5. It's a bug with the earlier versions of ArmA. It was not compatible with unified architecture cards. In other words, anything higher than the 3xxx series ATI cards or the 7xxx series nVIDIA cards. That's why it goes black.

Any kind of camera control in editor?

Well there's no in-game video editor, and there's no ability to save exactly what happened and then play it back from different angles while recording it. There is, however, an in-built camera tool designed by BIS to help them make cutscenes. Place a unit on the map and type into his initialization field: this exec "camera.sqs" This will put you into the camera.sqs view upon previewing the mission. You can assign the controls you wish to use for it under Bulldozer controls in the Controls options, provided ArmA II still has such a thing.

    There is no demo!

The demo was never originally said to be released on Wednesday. If it did, it wouldn't be late... ohara said that it's likely it would be released either on Monday or Tuesday of this week, but he never said it was confirmed. Then, Placebo followed his post with: So, in tribute to Arnold - "stop whining!" It'll come eventually, and probably the latest it will be is release day. It took just as long, if not longer, for the ArmA demo to come out, after all. Aaaaaaand, this thread will be locked soon.
  8. Or the fact that almost everything in that picture doesn't look at all like ArmA II, lol.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

Man to even compare what DR is looking like right now to the original Ghost Recon games is an insult. :j:
  10. Unfortunately, yes, it is. The 2GHz proc is a bit on the low side but your 8600M GS is a very weak card. I take it, because of the M, you're on a laptop? @Azamato - you will actually get better performance, perhaps. The 8600M is not the same as the 8600, it's much worse. Your 9600 is better than the 8600, so you'll theoretically get better performance. Not great, but better.
  11. Ragdoll is worse than the current death animations in my opinion. Evidence provided in other games that have used it, such as Half-Life 2, Crysis and Far Cry 2, make it look just... Weird. It's much less natural than ArmA II's death animations. Dismemberment is also something that isn't in a lot of games, the only recent one I've seen it in is Call of Duty: World at War. The weather effects aren't THAT bad. They're not amazing, but they look convincing enough. And seriously, when are people going to drop this muzzle-flash crap? So what? It's a muzzle-flash for God's sake! There's so much else in this game and people are whining about the muzzle-flash. Eugh...

Who's going to resist buying on the 19th?

Heh, I've already had it on pre-order for over a week. Not going to resist buying it. :p
  13. There's a lot of evidence they can present to you to support that it is bad, ryan80. I for one also think it's looking terrible.

ArmA II/2 vs Operation Flashpoint (and 2)

I think you may be under the illusion Codemasters made OFP. OFP was made by Bohemia Interactive, these guys. Codemasters own the name, but not the game. OFP2 will be nothing like the original OFP, and if you're an OFP enthusiast, ArmA II will be what you want as it is made by the people who actually made OFP. To answer your question, no, ArmA II is set today, not in the '80s. There are resistance, in the form of NAPA, and of course there are civilians too. And it still retains the ability to switch between 1st and 3rd person as OFP did. In OFP2, which isn't the true sequel to OFP despite Codemasters' marketing, there are no civilians and there are no resistance. It's set today as well. You also can't pilot planes, and only a limited number of helicopters. There is also no ability to switch between 3rd and 1st person. Edit: I wonder if people really do put unhelpful posts so quickly just to spam. :\
  15. Lol, man, that was one website. People have already said many times not to trust those results, as people are getting much higher results on the same PCs. You canceled your pre-order after one piece of evidence was presented to the contrary...
  16. Awesome, thanks for clearing it up for us Placebo. Jesus, 26th for the Middle-East. Good thing I got it on pre-order from Amazon. :butbut:

Apart from the whole still-blinking thing. :p

Poll, old school CTI or warfare?

I don't really even care for Warfare that much. In ArmA, it just didn't feel right, and I didn't enjoy playing it. As well as all the performance issues and bugs it had. However, I loved playing crCTI and MFCTI in OFP. Easily my favorite maps to play in MP.
  19. I can't see them either, that's because my ISP is allowed to block websites from view where I live, and the website SMERSH hosts them at is blocked. Maybe the proxy you're having to use is blocking that website?

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

I think that happened because he had to make it possible for the unit to still say what he said. Shooting him in the face would have killed him and removed the possibility of doing what MadDogX did. I think he had a script that when the unit was killed set his damage to less than 1 which, even if he was shot in the face, would have put damage to other areas of the body. You can tell because direct headshots in both ArmA and ArmA II have different wound textures than the one he has on his face.

    ultra realistic mode

Over-realism != FUN And what is being talked about here is over-realism, in my opinion. It's a game, and there's a point where you cross the line between a game and real-life. If this was to ever be introduced, then it'll more-than-likely be options that the player controls. The non-visual damage aids of ArmA II don't work very well, and I bet you would hear the alarm go off in your vehicle and then have it blow up without giving you any time to get out of there. There's only so much a game can simulate. And CarlGustaffa makes a good point, these measures are in there to give you the same edge that the AI have, otherwise they will be overpowering. For example, the DR "Hardcore" mode sounds far too restricting. The game seems to have either the extreme left ("Arcade" mode) and the extreme right ("Hardcore" mode). There's no middle ground, which is ridiculous.
  22. There are actually multiple voice actors who have varried their pitch between characters that they play. For example, the guy who does Coops' voice in Arma 2. The same dude did the voice of Colonel Blake in OFP: Elite, a miscellaneous soldier in ArmA as well as the spec op in Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Wilks' voice in Queen's Gambit. One of the other voice actors played the informant in Blood, Sweat & Tears, as well as Kurt Lambowski in Queen's Gambit. They don't seem to have as many voice actors as they did for OFP.
  23. On the voice files they created for OFP. The voice actors are probably out of BIS' budget.
