    FP : DR - News & Discussion

Why. Does. Everyone. Call me. A troll. For stuff. That clearly isn't trolling. How on earth is that trolling? Not once did I say OFP, ArmA or ArmA II didn't have hackers. They had tons. I really hated playing MP for the first part of ArmA and ArmA II's releases (I didn't start playing OFP MP until long after it's release). Jesus, people just throw that "troll" word around now like "gay" and "n00b". Stop being so offensive. Offensiveness begets offensiveness, and if you're going to point out my reply to Flarmapoint 2 on the previous page, that's exactly what I mean. You be unjustifiably offensive to me or others, I'm going to be offensive back.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

Well, to get it back on topic: I've recently got to thinking about the hacking that will occur when the game is released, just like all games suffer from it. With the FLIR that is included in DR, that makes it so easy to point out units from far distances, I bet the first will be to enable and disable FLIR whenever you like. I believe that, if FLIR is to actually work, can't you see people through some thin objects because the hit signature is still there? Maybe that means the hackers will be able to use it as an all-in-one type of thing. And with the type of community this game has been breeding, does anyone else think that hacking will be rampant once the MP kicks off with the release of the dedicated servers? On second thought, do we even know if DR will eventually have dedicated servers? Maybe it won't be such a problem then.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

Agreed, but since we were on the topic I thought I'd throw something in to the mix that contradicts what was being said before. Just to keep the discussion lively. I don't really trust any game previews, or reviews for that matter, until I try the game. I've only really just pointed out what they have said about it, not if I agree or not. I'll find out when the demo rolls around. Lol can you say one sentence lol that doesn't include lol in it, by chance lol?

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

It may seem a bit weird replying to a post that was made this long ago, but this thread went from page 366 to 379 in one night. I am not falsifying anything that I am saying here. I remember reading quite clearly in this thread a review that was posted saying that the story in the campaign is almost non-existent and that the campaign is quite short. I really can't be bothered to look for it, you can if you don't agree. After all, this thread did explode over night by 13 pages, so you can see the task you would have ahead of yourself. But none of what I have posted in this thread is false, unless I point out deliberately that it is. And just because 3 reviews gave it good scores doesn't mean that the campaign is good. But judging from what I have heard about the DR storyline, it isn't particularly engaging and I can see it as being something more involved for console players (which is strange, since COD4 had one of the best storylines I've seen in a video game), but not for myself.
  5. Jesus, this is starting to sound like people trying to turn ArmA II into DR. Restrictions after restrictions. ArmA II is better than DR because of the freedom it gives the players. It's their choice to play how they want it, and it's up to the mission designer if they want to allow it or not. Seriously, you really think the game would be better if they made certain parts of it impossible? That's not what OFP/ArmA/ArmA II have been/are about. Edit: After reading your post again, Langnasen, you should stick to PR. Or CoD or BF, if you play either. Of course they play the game. The real reason it hasn't changed is because the majority don't want it to. You might think that the majority do want it to because of the posts here, but seriously, this is an incredibly small fraction of the player base ArmA II has. If you don't like it - change it yourself. The interface isn't terrible, I personally like it. It takes getting used to, but a game like ArmA II is usually most enjoyed when you put a certain amount of dedication into it. If you do that, you learn how to use these things.
  6. Simply put - you bought the German version when you should have waited and bought the 505 Games version. BIS doesn't have to cater to you if you can't choose the right version, as W0lle stated in that post I linked on the previous page. You might be the customer, but it's your fault for buying the wrong version. And seriously? You're complaining about a search not coming up with the results you want when you put in "English"? Welcome to the internet my friend. I had to put in "German to English language" and even then had to search the results. Like any other search engine... To sum it up - research which version is the one you want before you purchase. "Think before you buy". Edit: Oh, and: Posted it on the previous page.
  7. Maybe, if BIS can get out of the contractual agreement. To be honest I can see the sense in it as if the German version had all of the languages in it, then you may as well buy it instead of the 505 Games version, and possibly vice versa. I take it 505 Games doesn't distribute to Germany, and that's why BIS had to use another publisher, or they signed an agreement with Metaboli that when publishing ArmA they also get to publish ArmA II. I seem to recall reading something like that. Don't hold me to it though.

It's very similar aesthetically. It's not the same one, but uses the same sort of principal. At least, that's what I gather from the videos. It has been there for a while too.
  9. Well, not the best example due to the direction the thread went, but the most recent post about it by a moderator is this one by W0lle.

    No campaing!?

That file is not the main campaign file, but the file for The Cause: Chapter 1 by Rejenorst. Do not look for that file. If I recall correctly, the file name for the ArmA campaign is simply ca.pbo.
  11. Is someone able to put that video on to YouTube? I'm really wanting to watch it, but for some reason, the video plays for a few seconds and then it stops, and the audio continues to play. No new video footage is displayed. I've let it buffer for a while, but it makes no difference. Really want to see the FLIR. :(
  12. Your question has been answered many times before. It's unlikely that the German version will ever have an English option due to contractual agreements between BIS and the publisher Metaboli stating that the German version is to only be in German. So no, you probably won't ever get an English option if you only have your German version. If you buy the 505 Games version, you will get your English option.

Man, I remember seeing those CGI trailers and thinking "You know, if the game actually turns out to be like this, it might actually be good." Then... The actual gameplay trailers started to come out...

Is that the UK one or the US one? As I'll be picking up the latest US one soon. Can't get the UK one over here.

They seem to be almost non-existent, actually. For rifles other than the actual sniper rifles (M14 doesn't seem to be included). Or maybe they're far too under exaggerated. According to some reviews out so far, DR has an apparently terrible campaign that isn't very involving and lasts 4 hours or something. I'd need to find the review again to prove it, but I definitely saw it. It'd be somewhere in this thread... Lol.

    Zipper5's Missions

v0.2 is taking a bit longer than I had originally planned, due to some great members over on OFPEC helping me out with making the first 3 missions even better. There were a few more issues than were expected, but I am making progress. The 4th mission is also nearing completion. But to keep you all interested, here are some pictures from the intro to the campaign which I have recently finalized (just missing voices, of course): So stay tuned! ;)

Lisbon Treaty II. Ireland votes Yes?!!?

It's probably because I'm not Irish (though I am part Irish on my Dad's side), but am I missing something? What exactly is this all about?

Great post DM. I didn't realize it at first, but that reviewer is really full of shit. And I'm going to point out that the review is still up. No information embargo has taken it down yet.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

I think that the two missions he's talking about are Guardian and After Montignac. Which, in my opinion, were some of the best missions in the campaign. (Well, After Montignac is the best mission in the campaign, but Guardian was also good.)

Will be interesting to see what happens with this review in the future. As far as I know, CM haven't lifted their embargo, but since this one gives it a positive review, unlike the Czech Eurogamer one, I bet they'll "let it slide"... :j:

Why cant it sound like this?

Well, yes, it is. But the key is not the engine, it's the sound files that are played. DICE recorded real life sounds and used those in the game. That costs a lot of money and requires very advanced sound editing equipment. Both of which I doubt are BIS' top priorities when making a game of this scope, or to spend such vasts sums of money on. Sure, hollow point, it might have been your top priority when making this game, but there are so many other key areas of ArmA II that I doubt BIS had the same priorities.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382239 That confirms it - that community is the worst community I have ever seen. I'm pretty damn sure most of the posters there didn't even read what he was posting. I read it and understood what his point was easily, but they think he's saying he wants DR to be more like BF:BC2, which he obviously isn't saying if they would just read his damn post. And yes, if DR is trying to compete with BF:BC2, especially after seeing that video, then damn, Codemasters are royally screwed.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

I've not payed much attention to BF:BC2 until I saw that trailer. Holy crap. MW2 and BF:BC2 are both on my buy list now. But yes, if CM seriously thought they could try to compete with that... :butbut:

Hm, the more widely known magazines have given it lower scores. Interesting...
