Who designs these missions?!
Zipper5 replied to My Fing ID's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
You know, it pays to check peoples' signatures once in a while. I clicked on your EW link, Gaia, and then went to the download page. I had no idea you had your own directors cut. Is it quite different to the one in the patch? Or does it simply use the Comanche rather than the Apache? Nevertheless, am downloading now. Edit: Never mind, I see what it changes. However, I can't get it to work. Throws up errors at the start, though. Oh well, not a whole lot is changed anyways. Sorry for the offtopicness. -
... You know... You... Just... Eugh... I can't be bothered...

I'm pretty sure that since BIA developed those tools shown in VBS 1.3 that it's up to BIA to release them to us, not BIS. When you spend over $1000 on VBS2, there's a reason that you get such nicer things than you do in ArmA II for $40. That seems like something people are not going to accept in this community so long as the VBS series continues...

It's not worth anyone's time porting it, really. That's why it was such a low priority for CAA1.

But it's Gaia/Str's "alternate reality". It was originally designed to be a Comanche, not an Apache. They changed it when they decided to include the Operation Arrowhead Apache in the patch, hence the oddities. However, the campaign is not meant to be realistic, it's meant to be cinematic and fun. The creator himself has said that many times, and I think this will be the last time I say it. It's getting ridiculous repeating the same thing over and over and over and over... -
Yes, please do lock this thread, W0lle. There isn't really anything to talk about anyways, apart from the same old arguments.

It's ok, I guess. It has some nice stuff, but it's only UK stuff, which is to be expected considering it's coming from the MOD. It's a taste of what VBS2 is for free, and I'm very happy to have had it. However, I don't think I'm all that interested in VBS2 anymore after trying it. It has some nice features, but it's not a game, unlike ArmA II. It can be pretty boring. But it's a $1000+ simulator, and ArmA II is a $40+ simulator, for good reason. Still, I applaud the guys behind it for giving us a taste of VBS2 for free.

A10 GAU-8 firing like shit and hitting zero..
Zipper5 replied to commandosolo2009's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Where did you buy the game? Did you buy a key, not the game? Or did you Torrent it? It looks to me like you've activated FADE - the uncrackable way that BIS protects their games from piracy. It essentially degrades the quality of your game over time until it's virtually unplayable. If you've bought it legitimately (buying a key is not legitimate, by the way), then there is probably some way to fix it. If you didn't, well... ;) -
And you honestly expect it to be a different case on a console? If you were to be realistic about this, you would see how it could be much, much worse...

ArmA2 1.05 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
Zipper5 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Because for Steam updates, that would require the patch to be several GBs large, which it is not if you just download it. So, as Steakslim says, download it and install it manually. -
One thing that I always loved about OFP was you could have an awesome game of crcti or MFCTI whenever you wanted, and you would almost always have a good bunch of people to play with on every public server running it. Man, was that ever fun! I miss OFP more and more these days... :(

Your work never ceases to amaze me, Mr Sarkey. Awesome video. :D

Oh God... Wall of text posts... *Eyes bleed* ArmA II hasn't actually had all that bad of reviews. At least, it hasn't in places that count. IGN gave it a pretty good review, and PC Gamer US (don't know about the UK one) did a huge 4 or so page review of it. I was quite impressed, and in the end got something like 85% or above. And more and more, PC Gamer is publishing stuff to do with ArmA II.

http://kotaku.com/5458493/no-lan-or-dedicated-servers-for-bioshock-2-multiplayer Well, one of my most anticipated games for this year has no dedicated servers and no ability to host LAN matches. Seems this trend started by Dragon Rising and Modern Warfare 2 is going to go on to screw with other franchises too...

"DXT1..DXT5 support missing."
Zipper5 replied to motbvincent's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
That means your PC does not meet ArmA II's minimum requirements. In this case, I believe it's talking about your graphics card, which is far too weak, but your processor is also too weak. Only way to fix it is to get a better PC I'm afraid. -
That's actually a feature BIS doesn't seem to have fully implemented into ArmA II yet. With high levels of fog, the buildings are made to look like they're frozen, same with roads and fences. Seems BIS intended it for winter-time missions.
-
Not really. Many new faces have turned up to these forums in the last year or so. Many more came after the failure of that "other game". Seems ArmA II has been the (second) most popular of BIS' games.
-
That was a hint to actually check out his channel, linked in his signature. If you had, you would have seen the following: So yes, he does have a pretty good PC.
-
Thanks for flamebaiting. ;) Richie has a pretty damn good PC. Take a look at some of his ArmA II videos. He's running on pretty high settings and getting a ridiculously good framerate. That's good evidence that he does not have a crappy PC.

I am wondering more and more what exactly you are doing on this forum, AVIBIRD 1. You seem much more suited to the environment on that "other" game's forum. You appear to have not been a fan of OFP (hence why I'd expect you to like that "other" game), and you do not like PCs (another reason why). But "PC boys"? What did you expect to find on a forum for a game that is PC-exclusive? We don't want a console version because when almost every franchise that has started out on the PC has turned to the console market, their games have been slowly, but surely, degrading in quality. A prime example of this would be the Call of Duty franchise, or Rainbow Six. With BIS' games being such great PC-exclusives that show exactly why PCs are better, we don't want them switching to consoles and losing what truly makes their games great. That's something which you can't seem to understand, but then again, you are a console player who's preferred form of gaming is only expanding. Ours is shrinking fast. That's what makes everyone pissed off at comments you make on this forum (you probably chose the worst one to do this in, as well).

I keep getting told by people how awesome Windows 7 is, and how great it is compared to XP. Granted, it is an obvious improvement over Vista, but that's not exactly hard. I figured they think it's awesome because of all the gimmick features and the new themes that Microsoft has thrown in, and that it will be as much of an unnecessary performance hog as Vista was. I decided not to buy it and, apparently, that was the right thing to do. XP FTW.

What I don't understand is that AVIBIRD 1 has come on here, to a forum for games such as these, and expected to not find PC gamers. Not only that, but he also thinks that he'll garner some support for slagging us off and calling us fanbois in huge wall-of-text posts that always have the same "Keep the faith, community" titles. You saw how that "other game" was screwed over to fit on to consoles. In fact, I saw you on their forums many times, and you were quite the advocate of the game. Now that it's disappointed you, you've come back here and are causing nothing but trouble with your constant "PCs are dead" and "consoles are the way of the future" rants. It would be nice if you stopped posting this stuff in general, but can you at least stop derailing threads with it?

BIS are a company that needs money. A company as large and well-funded as DICE does not need money, they want money.
-
Beginning to sound more and more like DICE never really "cared" about their PC community. They might care about their wallets, but they never cared about their distaste for such console-like issues, and they just capitalized on IW's mistake. Oh well, not surprising in the slightest.
