As a mission editor, I can tell you that Chernarus definitely was not altered from the original area so much that it was easy to use for combat scenarios (like all the BIS islands before it), but for it to be as true to the real thing as possible. As a result, it's one of the most jawdroppingly-realistic landmasses I've ever seen in a game. However, it can be quite hard to use it for mission making sometimes as there aren't bridges, or there isn't ocean anywhere but on the east and south, etc., for example. That road that heads north of Lopatino is probably meant to be a road leading to the border, I.E. where it suddenly drops into no-mans-land. I think that the airfields may have been added in for tactical reasons, but I'm not 100% sure with the main airbase you speak of. It could be based off of the actual airbase that is in that area in real life. Also, if you do a bit more searching of the map, you'll come across a few eastereggs that the island maker has thrown in, such as bushes spelling out words and such. ;)

http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=86 There's a few. ;)

^ This. Those who still cling to DR are people I would never want to have over here.
-
I still see posts from people thinking that Codemasters made OFP. It's a retarded world.
-
BIS doesn't write on Armaholic, it's community run. However, the information there and on the official page is wrong, apparently.
-
Keep in mind that campaign is for ArmA, not ArmA II. But here are the links you need: AddOns Campaign As far as I can tell through a crappy Google translator. :p
-
Russian ArmA II community and a "Vote" button. 'Nuff said. ;)
-
I would host a server of my own if I had the funds, but not all of us have a regular paycheck and/or over 18. ;)
-
People will call it that no matter how many times they're told otherwise, it seems. Unfortunately, it appears that CM wanted it to be seen that way, as in the true sequel to OFP, which, we all know, is BIS' ArmA games. Hence why I made my signature.

Richie's not a troll. Most PC users will agree with his statement, including me. But let's not start a Mac vs PC war on these forums too.

Everything's going to be nice. I don't think they will reply. Will probably just go on a banning spree again. Edit: Gah, got to stop talking about moderation...
-
And now, we have this. Thread's been open for a whole day and there's not been a response, despite the number of people asking for one, including Templar himself. I think that's more than anything proof that CM does not care about the game or its customers anymore.
-
Yes, I think that would be great. But I'm not sure if it's possible to code the game to differentiate between addon and addonless servers. However, we are talking about one of the most flexible game engines in history. :p

A game with this type of a community needs a mix of casual and hardcore players. I've seen many times in the past the hardcore players become... the "majority", shall we say, and become incredibly and ridiculously belligerent. Then again, if we have too many casual players, the game could go BF2 style. If you want a hardcore realistic community, buy VBS2. You can't go any better than that. ArmA II is damn realistic for a commercial game, but realism does not always equal fun. I for one do not consider myself a hardcore realism fan of BIS' games. I enjoy the more "gamey" aspects of it, but I also need the levels of realism. That's why people complaining about things like the oddities in Gaia's EW campaign really get me going. ;)

Though I did say it was smart of them to implement such a method, I did not say it was right. Personally I wish that mods were used sparingly and that there were many more servers running without addons than with them. And even then, I'd hope that they were quality addons and mods and not thrown-together addon packs that you can't get unless you visit their website. But, people pay for their servers, so it's their choice as to what they want to do with them. One can still hope, nonetheless... Edit: Oh, and automatically downloading addons isn't such a great idea in the long term. Think of what would happen if you joined a server that used ACE2.

Meh, the game never looked good to me anyways. Looked quite boring actually. The only gripe I have, like the rest of you, is with their idiotic explanation. Is it just me, or are we experiencing the end of PC gaming? So many companies, including those who have always been PC orientated, are shafting us for consoles, as well as other developers. At least I still have BIS and Valve (well, I have Valve for now at least. Who knows where they will go).

This is the one I use. Hope it works for you.

Since it's been a very long time since I last posted an update about Operation Cobalt, I thought that it was about time to post about what's going on, since some still seem to be interested in the project. Last month I had gotten to the point in the campaign where what I had made so far was not working for me. The original premise was leading me to a dead end and I was running out of ideas and ways to continue it. So, I thought I'd start from scratch. Thus, I did. That's the main reason there's been such a lack of information. Now, fear not. It still follows the basic storyline so far. However, none of the missions from the original version will be in the new one. I've completely redone the campaign and am focusing much more on keeping myself from falling into the same trap. But frankly, the new version is, so far, significantly better than the direction I was originally going. I've already finished the basic structures of the first 3 missions and am working on the fourth and fifth. Due to the recent patches for ArmA II introducing this "auto-Danger" mode, I am refraining from releasing anything for testing as it does cause the missions to play out different to how they should. I am looking to see if future patches remove or improve this "feature" before I decide if I need to modify it at all to compensate. Therefore, I don't think you'll see another release until it's finished. Hopefully by then I will have gotten these kinks sorted out, and you'll have much more to play with than you originally had. I'll try and get some pictures and perhaps videos out there so that I can keep you guys interested. Thanks for the support so far, and stay tuned for any further news and releases. :)

Sometimes it's done deliberately to dissuade people from joining, you know. Most of the dedicated PvP servers tend to only allow their group into the server, or at least people who want to be there so much that they download such large mods. It's quite smart, actually. ;)
-
They're simply experimenting to see what works best, as BIS has always done. It's their "thing". :p However, I think it should be reverted to the state it was in before the auto-Danger mode was introduced. It was almost perfect back then.
-
Completely against the spirit of a true OFP game, eh?
-
Was templar banned or simply infracted? I can't see them banning their one contributor to the game. Then again, anything is possible with CM. I can't see any reason why people would still want to persevere with that game. It's obvious that the development team no longer cares about it, so why should they?
-
And most of them hardly did something to garner a ban. But still, we're not supposed to discuss how they moderate their forum. I do think they're just trying to kill off the game now. They don't give a shit, won't give a shit, and never have given a shit. It was a money-grab that in turn destroyed the reputation behind the OFP name, and if that was their target, then they were 100% successful. I just hope that it's the last of CM's endeavors with the OFP name, but we all know how much they like to piss us off and take our money...

It's been hell for me trying to make missions because of the AI constantly going into Danger mode without me being able to stop them, no matter if I order them to stand up, hold fire, disengage, and put them in Safe mode. Nothing I do can get them to stop. And then I have the other AI squads working around me who I can't control and end up just being an annoyance. I really think that this "auto-Danger" thing should be removed. It's very, very annoying.
-
But let's be honest, who really expected anything more? They left it for so long without saying anything, they did hardly anything to improve the game, they shunned their community, did you really think Sion was going to come out an explain everything? CM got their money. They know that it's possible that they could make even more off of a sequel. They don't care anymore about peoples' reactions to DR, or a community of any form, it simply made money, and that's all a corporation that operates like CM sees. These companies will be the death of the gaming industry if people keep buying from such con-artists. I'm surprised we heard anything from him, actually. I thought CM had already severed its ties with the game and its development team. Unfortunately, it seems that the POS just won't die, largely in part to Templar's efforts, hardly to do with the developers...
