ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread
Zipper5 replied to Tonci87's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
ArmA II has Marines... Plus - British, German and Dutch troops have already been made for ArmA II by the community, and I'm sure they'll work just how they should in OA. -
What if Rockstar hooked up with Bohemia to make ARMA game.

Way to go. Can't even read the post above yours. I love GTA IV myself, even if I don't play it as much as I do ArmA II. But GTA IV is a mainstream title that, while a very good one, is still compromising to cater to the foaming-at-the-mouth masses. One thing that I have always liked about BIS' games is their refusal to dumb it down to appeal to said masses. While I think Rockstar are one of the best mainstream developers, I also think BIS is the best non-mainstream developer, and a joint venture with the two could only result in a mainstream game otherwise Rockstar will not like the profits. -

Gray and dark gray. I like Multicam's look. I'm sure that if BIS don't make the units wear Multicam, someone will. Well, someone will no matter if BIS do it. :p -
Though I have not met him nor played Red Orchestra, he sounds like he was a great man. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace.

"We are going to on the move" I wonder if they actually know what Oscar Mike means or they just think it sounds cool. I'm guessing the latter. MW2 has started something...

Village Sweep mission in 1.05 update completed anyone?
Zipper5 replied to CptHarris.aus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I figured there was more, could not remember specifically. In that case, I must have sent it first to the south of the town, and then sent it up north, and just kept doing that when I felt it necessary. -
You should do a search about the way servers handle custom mods and addons before getting pissed off. If a server doesn't allow the mod you have, or has a mod that you don't have, it will kick you. This was implemented in ArmA as a way of keeping things fair in a MP environment, as well as fixing possible crashes and hacking. To fix - don't play with mods unless a server specifically says it needs one. It is not BattlEye. And repeatedly rejoining servers after they kick you generally constitutes a ban in most games, not just here.

The only thing BIS and Rockstar have in common is an open-world gaming environment in the GTA series. In terms of everything else, what they do is the polar opposite, and they're the best at it. To combine them would be counter-productive for both parties. That would be InfinityWard, actually. -
Yes, if I recall, some of the team that worked on SOC are working on this. I believe it's because they wanted to show their own vision, and they weren't able to due to the confines of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, so they went off on their own and made this. Has anyone ever found out what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. stands for, if anything?

The engine is quite good for racing games and who knows, perhaps it would have been better suited for a shooter had it been managed properly. We'll have to see what happens with this new one. I'm still not buying it, however. CM are quite simply the scum of the gaming industry after their recent endeavors.

Yes, I'm all for an integrated modding interface or some sort of official mod manager made by BIS to be used exclusively with ArmA II.

I'm not against newcomers at all. What I am against is people not even wanting to put in the time to simply add -mod=modname in their target line, or to even learn it. It's not hard at all, and many posts on the forum talk about it as do the community websites and the Biki. It takes a short search to find such things, and takes even less effort to apply them. To say that it's hard and difficult to do it is either laziness or it is simply being technologically inept. But there are still things that I personally want to have the same general concept, but some tweaks and improvements elsewhere. For example - the interface. I love it, many seem to hate it. I think that improvements can be made for it but I don't want to see a whole new system simply because the modern gamer finds the current one "too difficult", when the same person complains about MP in MW2 being "too difficult". I'm up for change, but not radical change to appease today's "gamer". That's my stance. God, it sounds like politics... :butbut:

Hm, perhaps, but it seems as though "that other game" actually sold quite well due to the hype and advertisement, but its sales quickly slowed after release. It seems coincidental that they choose to expand having just finished their "largest project ever undertaken".

Resentment! Is more what I would say in regards to this...

I figured out how to do the -mod= thing when I first discovered OFP.info and installed my first OFP addon ever which, if I recall correctly, was the very first leaning mod. I never asked on any forum, I simply followed the broken-English instructions in the mod's readme. This was when I was probably... 11 or 12, and I knew almost nothing about computers back then and even less about OFP. If it's easy for me at that age and not for people at the age of 20 and above, then people seriously have an issue... And I am not over-exaggerating in any way, shape, or form. If you look at how much gear your regular soldier wears, even the amount they wear in ArmA II, you will see that they actually run pretty damn fast when carrying all that weight compared to how they would run in real life. Granted they may run that fast when their life depends on it, but I'm pretty sure they'd avoid it whenever they could. I agree that they could be smoother, for sure, but not faster. And I honestly can't see how you meant something different:

"That game". Unfortunately.

I thought simply adding -mod= to your ArmA II shortcut's target line was a pretty easy way for new people. Was for me... We saw how trying to get mainstream players to play milsims worked with "that other game". I'd like to keep your typical mainstream gamer as far away from this as possible. I recall reading that the way that people move in ArmA II is on par with Olympic athletes, so you can imagine what they are in games like MW2 and such. The rest of your points I do more-or-less agree with. Just got to be careful, again, with appealing to the mainstream with a console version... I wouldn't recommend questioning how the forum is moderated by the way. ;)

Definitely not buying, or even trying. They've lost my trust.

*Dies the best death ever* If only...

Tests have proven MC to be more effective than current generation UCP/ACU, and more so than it's recent competitors. You can't simply not like a camouflage because of it's popularity. Surely that's having your priorities in a mess, even if you are ex-or-currently-serving US Army? Have you actually worn and tested MC yourselves in the Army?

The US supports Pakistan due to Al-Qaeda being known to be seeking refuge there, and since Pakistan won't allow US troops into the country, the US still wants to fight Al-Qaeda. They just have to do it through the Pakistani military. There may be a war between India and Pakistan, but I can't see why China is involved? I never knew China was an enemy of India...

Well, today's the last day of this thread's existence. It's been very, and all of you join in on this one: Nice......

Yes, like most games, there's one reload animation for each weapon, no matter what the conditions.

^ This. Well, the one they've had doing Colonel Blake in OFP:E, leader of Foxtrot in ArmA, leader of the mercs in QG and Cooper in ArmA II is pretty good, and speaks Czech and English. So you can keep him. :p
