This is a very nice island and i already had most of the addons but did anyone get the anim.pbo to work? when i extracted the files it didnt create it's own folder wo i made a folder and copied the anim.pbo file name as the name of folder replacing .pbo with _anim and it still wouldnt work. I can't begin to tell you how irritating it is to back out of a mission or the editor and not have a working island anim running.

He got me as well last night, i made it all the up the hill with my squad intact got ambushed from the rear and lost everyone and them got aced by that damn HMG. The funny thing was after i died during the death scene i saw some more Air Cav guys running past my corpse. I guess the AI isnt all that bad in this newer version. And one more tip, when you make it to the first village and you get the "Re-arm your squad...." message if you stay there for a couple of minutes another Air Cav helo will come and drop off another squad. Might help if running low on squaddies, they wont join your squad but you can fight alongside them if you need to.

Howdy all, To celebrate the grand re-opening on the OFP Pub i have made an update to a Nam mission i made long ago. The intro has a reworked scene and the mission itself has been redone to allow for better playability on lower end systems and also has an overall improvement to it. To be honest dusand im not sure, i did add a remove bodies script but you may have lag once you hit the beach up until a few enemies get killed and deleted.

I still say that Tet or the Easter Offensive would make a great NVA/VC campaign. I have plenty of info on Tet that i can't post here because nearly every 'Nam reference site has an image that would get me banned

Hi all, I was trying to figure out how i can run my EZ firewall and OFP, whenever i launch a program that wants to access the net it asks me if its ok. The problem with OFP is that i am already in game when i try to launch multiplayer, this results in my comp freezing. I did a search and didnt find much to help out, does anyone know of a way to get this to work without me having to shutdown my firewall whenever i want to play OFP MultiPlayer? EZ Firewall is similar to Zone Alarm in the way it works. Thanks for any help

Thanks guys, i did go over the help files and as usual there was no help  EZ Firewall does not allow me to grant permissions before launching any programs. But, you guys both made excellent suggestions and i will try it out tonight. Thanks Â

Tannethal, some tips for you. Yes, your support is only cursory one helo is supposed to get shot down (thats just a gunship anyway and it does take out the mortar team before it goes down) and the pilot and gunner if lucky enough to bail out will join your squad (although i admit this rarely happens) the Air Cav are either hit or miss, i have played it and seem them all die on the beach and i have seen them make it all the way up the hill as well. When you start out you do have the option at the briefing screen to select whatever weapons loadout you wish. I suggest giving yourself a snipe rifle and a squaddie or 2 an M60. And remember to order those guys to disembark once you hit the beach, they are supposed to be forcefully ejected but for some reason it wont happen most of the time, a suggestion is to highlight the team and press 4 as you near the beach and once your out of the boat hit 1 and you should be good to go. You can also stay close to the boats at the start and the gunners will provide support fire for you. After you start up the hill your on your own. Im glad your enjoying it so far, i think it's by far my most challenging mission.

Im not disagreeing with your interpretations at all mate, i just wanted to clarify that the term "vietcong" although made up by the US and South Vietnamese was not meant to replace "Viet Mihn" as the former Viet Mihn themselves along with those from the south who opposed the anti-communist regime called themselves the "National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam" when they formed. Vietcong was indeed a name given to them by the US and South Vietnamese. But although they were essentially the same they were also different (i know i am contradicting myself but 'Nam is full of contradictions) and existed in 2 seperate periods of time. I think we are basically agreeing with each other but our symantics are a little different. Anyway, it's good to see young people on this forum discussing this as we are sort of repeating history but thats for another thread not this one.

Thats not entirely true Phil as i pointed out in my previous post. The Viet Mihn and the Viet Cong were actually 2 seperate entities that existed at 2 seperate times. The Vietcong was made up of former viet mihn and people from the south who was against the anti-communist south vietnam government.

Originally the Viet Mihn was the communist army of vietnam that was formed to get independence for vietnam from the french. In 1941 when Japan occupied parts of the country they fought against them and received funding from both the americans and chinese. After the war the viet mihn attempted to take control of the country and thus the war against the french was sent into full gear with the french receiving a large amount of funding from the US. In 1954 after the french were defeated in the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, the country was divided along the 17th parallel, it was only meant to be temporary until unifying elections could be held in 1956, the Viet Mihn (in 1954) took control of the communist north with Ho Chi Mihn appointed "Prime Minister". South Vietnam then reneged on the 1954 agreement (with US approval) because they saw Ho Chi Mihn as a threat to democracy and feared because he was a "war hero" he would win any election held. The result of this was guerillas forming in the south who were made up mostly of ex-viet mihn and also by others who opposed the anti-communist regime in the south and formed the National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam or Viet Cong as the US and South Vietnamese would call them. We all know what happened next. . . .
