  1. The C isnt the flagship product. That's the T/T2 smile_o.gif

How about we agree we arent going to convince each other of anything?

    Palm = Elegant

    PPC = Windows 95

    smile_o.gif

    I'll leave it at that.

  2. Usually at work when I ask people for quick answers and they pull their stupid palms I tend to give two answers:

Is is fashionable nowadays to forget things and then retrieve the information from an electric device?

Dont waste my time with that....just call me back when you know it okay!

    LOL!

Good point. However, I use mine to keep track of all my coursework, due dates for papers, predictive grade tracking, and all of my professor's phone numbers and email addresses. Plus I play games, watch video, and listen to music while in transit to/from work and school. Plus I have a nifty winamp controller that works via bluetooth, so I can change songs while I am playing Flashpoint without having to alt tab out smile_o.gif

It's not a matter of forgetting things. It's a matter of organising things that used to end up written on little slips of paper in my pocket smile_o.gif

  3. Quote[/b] ]Input via a wireless digitizer unit & pen

If you are talking about the pad where you write/draw and it comes up on the screen, then the first one of those was actually for Palm.

Quote[/b] ]Use the Ipaq as a phone through a Bluetooth link

Tunsten T and T2, built in BT that works like that. Sadly, no CDMA BT yet, so I cant do it.

Quote[/b] ]Internet acess throguh wireless 802.11g or bluetooth via GSM (or 3G) phone.

If your iPaq doesnt have built in 802.11g, you need a sled. I can get 802.11g through an SD card. Tungsten C has it built in. BT can be added to the C is already in the T/T2

    Quote[/b] ]Voice recognition

A non issue for me, so I've never bothered looking for it smile_o.gif My Tungten has a voice recorder, which I use extensively. smile_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]Real internet explorer with support for Java and .NET components

Why anyone would claim that being able to use Internet Exploder is a FEATURE, I am not sure ;) However, there are full web browsers that parse proper HTML. Java is also supported in the newer models.

Quote[/b] ]Real handwriting recognition (software called Calligrapher that can actually fully read my handwriting)

Tealscript, MyScript, there are a host of Palm applications that recognize handwriting, even my terrible scrawl.

    Quote[/b] ]Full MS Office integration.

Documents to Go integrates seamlessly with Office. I have several spreadsheets, word docs, power point presentations, etc. In fact, depending on your versions of Pocket Excel, etc. DtG integrates better than the PPC version.

Quote[/b] ]File sharing across wireless network.

Another one I am not sure on. Not really an issue to me since I sync to my desktop daily. That lets me get what video and audio files I want/need for the day.

As for the work stuff, I am not sure on the programs you listed, and cant really be bothered to look them up. But Palm does emulate all of the HP calculators. And it can support those compilers (though C# I am not sure about, I dont think so)

ICQ has a compatible Palm client, and there are various image editing software packages that work like PS. Yes, you have A0E for PPC and I dont. smile_o.gif

What I have that you dont:

    Higher resolution

    Larger base of free/cheap software

    Far simpler user interface

    More intuitive

    More stable

As to Flashpoint on a PPC environment..

    biggrin_o.gif:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

*calms himself after he stops laughing so hard*

First the resolution on the iPaq is low (1/2 VGA) and secondly the xscale processor is a total dog. (My 150mhz TI OMAP Processor tests as fast in most pocket benchmarks as the 400mhz xscale).

If you taqke JUST Palm, yes, it's 30%. But if you add everything up, Sony, Handspring, and all the other manufacturers, Palm still approaches 70% market share. Because it is a superior OS. Microsoft makes the mistake of assuming that an extension of a PC is what people want in a handheld. That is erroneous thinking. If one wants a PC extension, get a notebook. Then you are not sacrificing usability and simplicity by trying to cram Windows into a device it's patently not suitable for.

I respect your decision to use iPaq. It's sort of like buying a Lada instead of a BMW smile_o.gif

  4. I'll ask you again Denoir:

Show me one thing you can do on a PPC that I cant do on a Palm.

    Especially in productivity.

There is a reason Palm has 70-80% market share, especially in the corporate market.

    smile_o.gif

  5. The Zire 71 or the Tungsten T2 are both good.

Both of them pretty much kill anything that PPC does, unless all you want is flash without substance.  Productivity apps work way better on Palm smile_o.gif

PPC = Windows 95 at half VGA resolution. smile_o.gif

  6. Yeap. It's the hottest driest summer here in over 50 years! It's starting to cloud over now, but we've had a month of 35+ degrees every day! And this is fricking Canada ;)

And lots of fires. The two biggest ones were caused by morons and their cigarrette butts. Last time i heard they had spent nearly 50 million fighting those two fires! Too bad there is no wayt to collect from fuckwit smokers who cant dispose of their garbage in a safe manner. I had one guy tell me he refuses to use his ashtray in his car, because it makes the car smelly and dirty... and instead he flicks his cigarette butts out the window! crazy_o.gifmad_o.gifcrazy_o.gifmad_o.gif

  7. How soon they forget!

Most of the development for Halo was done on the PC before the Xbox even existed. Then Bill of Borg bought up Bungie and had it made an Xbox title, to give people a reason to buy Xbox. I doubt it will take a lot of work to finish it for the PC ;)

  8. OMG. that is just obscene!

Bush was AWOL for a year from his ANG unit, and now he's POTUS, and an action figure.  It is a travesty!   crazy_o.gif  mad_o.gif

What a way to degrade all those real warriors in the Navy, Amy, Air Force, and Marines.  mad_o.gif

If you are into fictional hero figures, instead of Dubya (who is only a legend in his own mind), get this one:

    Sgt Rock

  9. For some levels of security clearance, I would expect that amount of thoroughness in the background checks. After all, if you cant find teachers that remember him, how do you know he is who he says he is?

And if you are trying to get a high security clearance, you should expect to have the Feds climb into every aspect of your life, no?

I still remember two of my friends trying to join the USMC after seeing Full Metal Jacket back in the day. They were ready to catch a bus to Bellingham when we talked some sense into them smile_o.gif

  10. Warin, from what I've read on the airsoft forums, CA Armalites are shite.  You're better off buying the TM and just doing routine maintenance to keep the barrel tight, or just replacing it with a one piece aftermarket barrel.  Upgrade to a metal body if you must as well, though I hear the stock TM's are quite durable and the upgrade is more for show than anything else.

From all the old timers on Red Wolf's board, they say anyone who can't perform basic maintenance on their TM barrel needs to hit themselves in the head with a tackhammer for being completely and totally mechanically inept.

LOL! Well, I dont have that problem. I've been tearing things apart (and putting them back together in working order) since I was a little kid.

For cool factor, I dont think the G36c can be beat. But there is also a LOT of add-ons for the TM M4. It's just such a nightmare. I am hoping that getting to hold a few and maybe even test firing them will help me decide.

Can you PM me links for some of the better forums you've read? I am too lazy to search and wade through all the shite smile_o.gif

  11. War is hell.  I think Bush is a war criminal already (illegal war of aggression), I dont need to get all angsty that they used weapons like this.  Fire bombing is pretty nasty but it's not against the 'rules'.

    War isnt nice.

    Wasnt that Dubya's mom?

Watch out what you say Warin !

Or you'll be next in the evil empire list, and your country we'll be bombed based on secret report that you and your neighborhood detain WMD...

Then the secret police will come, and it will get really nasty!

"What is this cannister of oil for? And this razor, I'm sure it's to hijack an airplane! You didn't vote Republican, did you?"

    biggrin_o.gif

Most of all, I dont want anyone to think I condone use of weapons like napalm, or a Mk 77, whatever you wish to call your sticky fiery bomb of nastiness. But perhaps I am more pragmatic in my belief that war is as much psychological as it is physical. So while a weapon may be morally indefensible (and yeah, I think setting someone on fire is more morally indefensible than blowing them to hell with HE or perforating them with bullets and or fragmentation devices), it's usage in wartime is at least understandable. After, War isnt nice! And to expect it to be is a little on the naive side.

  12. I love the smell of Napalm in the morning  crazy_o.gif
Quote[/b] ]We napalmed both those (bridge) approaches," said Col. Randolph Alles, commander of Marine Air Group 11, told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "Unfortunately, there were people there because you could see them in the (cockpit) video.

"They were Iraqi soldiers there. It's no great way to die," Alles added.

He could not provide estimates of Iraqi casualties.

"The generals love napalm," said Alles. "It has a big psychological effect."

    And?

War is hell. I think Bush is a war criminal already (illegal war of aggression), I dont need to get all angsty that they used weapons like this. Fire bombing is pretty nasty but it's not against the 'rules'.

    War isnt nice.

    Wasnt that Dubya's mom?

  13. I'm looking at the TM G36C or the CA M4 carbine.  I am hoping the shop has a way to try them out before purchase, so I can get a feel for them and make my decision from there.

Plus they have a shop that sells all the clothes and other gear that I'll need, so I should come back from vacation in October fully set up to play Airsoft. w00t

  14. Sorry for the continued spam... but Pocket PC's also have many different attachments etc... for example, the inklink handwriting system. An infrared port connected to a tablet of paper, while using a special pen, can actually read what you write... and put it on the pocket pc... without even needing a tablet! It's only $99 too!

Another thing you can use is a GPS... how cool is that! A color GPS on your pocket PC!

Emm, that accesory actually came out for the Palm units first. The pad thing smile_o.gif

Plus there is the GPS add-on for Palm as well smile_o.gif

You dont ignore 70% market share smile_o.gif

  15. Blah blah blah.

There is a reason Palm OS still holds 70+ percent of the market.

If all you want is games and movies, PPC is ok.  If you want something for productivity, Palm is still better.  I havent had a hard reset on my Palm, or any loss of data, in the 5 months I've run the T.  My buddy with an iPaq/Jornada had his one month and had to hard reset (and thus loose all currently non synced info) 3 times.  That was three months ago.  Since then he has the replacement Futureshop gave him do the lock up/hard reset once a month on average.

Palm OS is far more robust and stable. Period.

Quote[/b] ]If you want a more serious platform, real interconnectivity with your PC, real usable programs, then go for a Pocket PC platform

Please back this up with some fact.  I can do IR/Bluetooth/USB/Serial sync with my desktop, to either ACT or Outlook right out of the box with my Tungsten.  I can run any productivity program you want on my Palm, plus Documents to Go actually syncs better with Word and Excel than their PPC counterparts do smile_o.gif (No loss of formatting/tables/graphics). As for games, the ones I have work well and have great graphics. The T is actually higher res than pretty much all PPC units smile_o.gif

  16. Spend the extra 150 bucks and get the Palm Tungsten|T2

It has the better screen than the Zire 71, comes with better software (Documents to GO) and has a full metal case, and slider than makes it much smaller to use.

Definately stay away from the Pocket PC OS. It licks in a big way compared to the Palm OS.

Palm OS has way more quality freeware. Mostly because developing for the Palm OS is free, whereas for PPC, you need to get a developer suite from MS that costs $$$.

PM me... I am a bit of a PalmOS guru, and I have a lot of experience with the Tungsten T
