1. LOL! Or how about those Americans with no sense of direction...

Earlier this week, some lady drove to Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA instead of vancouver, WASHINGTON.

Would have been fine, but she was carrying what was likely a live hand grenade in her glove compartment. And Canadian Customs generally doesnt see that as a good idea smile_o.gif

And if I remember the report correctly, she was from Texas ;)

  2. the real use of delta force.... "to kill and embarass pussy ass mother effers who try to screw over the government by using the military as a scpaegoat". Its true all in a few days this sorry guy is going to die a horrible death of.... trust me its horrible. No but seriously, if he wanted out that bad all he had to do was claim he was insane and he woulda gotten a honorable discharge. He is an idiot so he will pay the price, simple as that.

'pay a price' for going AWOL? I sure hope you mean to jail for a suitable amount of time.

Otherwise that sounds sort of like a threat, and that isnt exactly a good idea now, is it? smile_o.gif

PS: I think you'd have to prove you are insane. And that's a tough thing to do. ie: Shrink: "If there had been a drill sergeant with a club at your elbow when you went AWOL, would you still go AWOL?" Trainee: "What, do you think I am insane?!?" Shrink: "Not in the least. back to basic for you!"

  3. It happens.

In basic training at Fort Benning, my company had a 40% AWOL rate. And of the five guys that I started out with, only two of us actually completed our entire enlistments.

    wow_o.gif

40% AWOL rate? That's freaking insane!

And the army doesnt really care about those non-hackers who sign up and then run away? You'd think there would be more trouble for this guy considering the nation is, in theory, at war.

  4. Five times the speed of light??? wow_o.gif

NASA needs to get ahold of this technology for inclusion into a Mars Mission. It could get there pretty fast that way! biggrin_o.gif

I wonder if this was a mistake in translation and meant five times the speed of sound ;)

  5. You wouldnt know a good on-line tutorial for painting figures would you, ran? I just suck at painting them and would lvoe to find some good tips on making them look human smile_o.gif

Most of my armour ends up 'buttoned up' so I dont have to display them with figures! biggrin_o.gif

  6. I am having a fetish for WW II armour right now, and the Tamiya kits I have are excellent.

I am reworking a standard M4 Sherman into a Canadian Sherman used in Italy. I have some good pictures but the work is going slow. I will post some pics when I get closer to done.

I usually buy Tamiya because I have just never had a dud from them. If I can afford it, I am going to pick up one of their 1/6th scale WWII tanks with the R/C rig! smile_o.gif

  7. 2. Half-Life (http://half-life.sierra.com/) ~ I'm already excited about HL2 just from reading about it.. But I never played the original on console or PC.

    You've never played half life?!?

    wow_o.gifcrazy_o.gifrock.gifwow_o.gifcrazy_o.gifrock.gifwow_o.gifcrazy_o.gifrock.gif

run out now. Get it. It is still better than 90% of the crap that gets released. It revolutionized the way that a game could tell a story. It also scared the living crap out of me the first time a head crap leapt, and NO other game has managed to do it quite like that. OFP came close the first time I played After Montignac, and heard soldiers moving arouns, searching for me. But that was more heightened awareness than fright!

  8. Gamespy has an article today about the 25 most under rated games of all time. They put OFP at 21 on the list of the most under rated games of all time.

I totally agree with them. the game was not properly promoted in the US, and as such it is the realm of die hard fans like us, rather than having wider acceptance among gamers. I know that i get a blank stare still when I talk about Flashpoint with people. And I have turned at least 4-5 people onto the game here just by telling them how cool it is and suggesting the GOTY pack.

Can we hope that OFP2 will get the promotion and hype that OFP1 deserved and didnt get?

  9. Anyways... all you have to do to make a plane "Aircraft Carrier compliant" is to reinforce the plane's structure.

If its possible to launch a C-130 Hercules from an aircraft carrier, why not the A-10 Thunderbolt? rock.gif

Ummm, I've never, ever, ever, EVER heard of a herc launching from a carrier!!! rock.gif. The main Carrier based prop cargo plane is the C-2 greyhound. I can only think thats what you mean.

The undercarriage (Landing gear) is what requires the biggest beefing up for carrier based aircraft, not necessarily the structure.

OF course it is possible to launch an A-10 using a catapult, just look at the S-3 Viking. Big, heavy and ugly, with the same engines as the A-10

    You were saying?

  10. Athlon 64! Athlon 64! Athlon 64!

The thourghbreds do rock though. My 2100 (1.6) is running at 3200 (2.2) with a 200 FSB.

The Barton 2500 seems to be a decent clocker at the moment though.

(My new case turned up today! Its a beauty! I'm going to install a watercooling system at the end of the month and try to bump my clock up to 2.4.)

Sweet case! I have a 1000D. I didnt like the white finish on the 2000, and I never move the thing, so the weight isnt an issue.

I want an Athlon 64, but my computer budget has been decimated by the need to get a notebook for school use. I got an.. umm.. shiny aluminum PowerBook.

And I know I cant play OFP on a Mac. Thats part of the reason I bought it biggrin_o.gif

I'll give some impressions when it gets here next week.

  11. The fact that the US keeps shooting up Iraqi police (police that they themselves have vetted) tells me that there is something eriously wrong with the way that civil affairs are being handled in Iraq.

    Is there no communication?

  12. http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20030906_922.html

    Rummy says,

Quote[/b] ]"Instead of pointing fingers at the security forces of the coalition, ... it's important for the Iraqi people to step up and provide information."

maybe it's just me, but to get something you have to earn it.

If they werent in their own nation, then perhaps they should have to 'earn' something from the US. But since the US is the aggressor, it's awfully arrogant to speak of Iraqi's needing to earn things in their own country!

  13. @ Sep. 04 2003,15:58)]I don't have any kind of spam blocker or filter at present, but I tune it out anyways. If it isn't from someone I know or from a mailing list I specifically requested, then I just delete it.

Tex, I am running out of room in my sig to display your gems of wisdom!

Back when I sold computers, I told this to people over and over again. And had to fix problems from email virii over and over again for the same people. At one point, I wanted to creat an IQ test for people before they could buy a computer. But then I wouldnt have sold many biggrin_o.gif

  14. [tinfoil hat] they are just saying that to stifle panic and worry. They have in fact determined that it is going to hit the earth. For the next 11 years, the New World Order will build underground habitats for a sample of humanity that will survive the devastation. Included will be enough biological diversity to repopulate the earth one the dust clouds clear after the asteroid impact [/tinfoil hat]

    biggrin_o.gif

  15. Arab news stations have been broadcasting what seems to be a new Saddam tape, in which he denies he had anything to do with the car bombing that killed 100 people.

Either he's lying or it was Al Queda. Either would make sense.

I love how one news report claimed that the UN bombing might have involved AQ, and now some people just assume that was correct. After all, if Terrorism happens, it couldnt be people who hate what is happening. After all, who would dare be ungrateful for their 'liberation'?

I think most of these terrorist actions will end up being traced to Iraqi people and groups who are pushing their own agendas.

  16. I think Ubi needs to pull their heads out of their asses smile_o.gif

If the Demo is ready, release it now, and still have your marketing campain in October. that way you still get all of the people who havent followed the game swept up in the hype of the marketing blitz, while keeping the hard core fans who have anticipated this for ages happy. As it sits now, Ubi is going to piss off all the dedicated people who have been the core community up till now.

  17. The Jessica Lynch Story

When the Truth doesnt matter any more

She should get her Purple Heart, like any other soldier who is injured in a combat zone does. But a Bronze Star? Fah!

  18. What the hell are American media telling your people crazy_o.gif I just had a chat with someone in North Carolina, apparently the US invaded Iraq because Iraq(!!) attacked the US on 9/11 crazy_o.gif crazy_o.gif crazy_o.gif crazy_o.gif crazy_o.gif

    crazy_o.gif

Must be the gas fumes from all the stock cars, coupled with too much Budweiser!

I cant believe how easily some people (and this is not just an American phenomenon. I had to explain to a group of people during a BS session at my college about exactly how unlikely it was that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11) are led and manipulated by the media.

It makes me very sad for the future. sad_o.gif

  19. Cloney, I would suggest being more civil. Another outburst like that will result in a PR. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you think it's wrong, refute it rationally, dont flame.
