  1. Dude... you have an issue that the VA could help you with but you dont want to get help because you are worried about your firearms? That makes me very sad.... your nation puts those programs into place to support the men and women that put themselves into harms way, and to not be able to access them... gah.

  2. Good heavens. A remake of a remake! Third time around... Crazy. I know a few people in a tiny little town here in British Columbia that have phone books saved from when they were filming there, as the actors all stayed in town and got phones and ended up being listed in thte directory.

  3. eems like a lot of justifiable schadenfreude in this thread!

Even though I havent been active in the community for a good while, I made certain to correct my gamer friends who were excited about OFP products from Codemasters based on their positive opinions of the original BIS product. I refused to buy any of the CM OFP products because deep down I knew they wouldnt meet the standards that BIS set with the original.

It is sad that the people in the studio have lost their jobs. However, I suspect they will not be unemployed long if they are competent designers, artists, and coders.

  4. I always find it amusing when Americans talk about the Democratic Party as "Lefties" The Democrats are far to the right of even the most moderate European or Canadian "leftist" party. :D

I will save a discussion of Obama and the 2012 election cycle for the American politics thread so as not to derail the discussion here.

  5. I doubt it will ever happen. If it didnt happen under Bush II it just wont.

As for Obama, I seem to remember a shriek fest that as soon as he took office all sorts of crazy anti-gun legislation would happy. Funny that it didn't, right? I think that Obama is well aware of the power of the gun lobby and has absolutely no interest in making trouble he essentially doesn't need.

Up here in Soviet Canuckistan our gun laws are far more onerous, but I can buy a Norc, or if I want to shell out the big bucks, a TAR-21... both of which are unavailable in the US. Whats up with that? :)

    edit:

Criminals can get pretty much any firearms they want these days, full auto or not... so arguing that a ban on new civilian full auto weapons keeps them out of the hands of criminals is disingenuous. The truth probably lies in LEOs and other government agencies wanting to keep full auto weapons out of the hands of those who are law abiding citizens but may want to "make a stand" at some point.

  6. Yeah, one of the Norc clones. The importer I want to buy from has a solid warranty on them and it really is a reasonable price, and most of the folks I have talked to who have bought one are generally happy with them.

  7. Giulliani is an complete moron as far as I am concerned. A statement like that completely takes away the sense of the despair and hopelessness those that jumped must have felt. It dishonours them as far as I am concerned.

9/11 was one of those moments that will be seared forever in the brains of those who were old enough to understand what was going on on that fateful day. I think it changed the world in a significant way and its repercussions are felt to this day. Whether the change is for the better or for the worse it will be many more decades along before it is understood.

  8. [quote name=suhsjake;2018504

    Ruger 10/22

    - Just plain fun to plink with

    - Fiber optic sights

I would like to own a 7.62 AK or 9mm AR' date=' but those will be in the future.[/quote]

THe 10/22 is one of the best rimfire designs ever made! I’ve wanted one of those for nearly 30 years now!

Being up here in Canada, you need a special license to purchase and possess firearms. To get it you need to take the course and I have just never gotten around to it. I keep meaning to though!

The 10/22 (or quite possible the SR22) would be my first purchase, followed closely by an SKS... one of the few Soviet bloc weapons you can buy legally in Canada. The entire AK series and anything that even remotely looks like it is entirely prohibited in Canada. I also want an M14 knock off of some sort and some sort of handgun. I really like the Ruger SR9 for a reasonably priced 9mm, but I’d also love a .45 1911 style as well.

  9. Umm... I cant remember. I dont have the budget sheet on my notebook right now.

    Hehe.

It is, actually, two Mac Pro workstations with dual 30" Cinema HD monitors. Video editing work, so the Mac platform is much better (Final Cut Pro is awesome) in the same price range. We looked at Avid workstations, but for the same price the Mac systems are better.

  10. They could also be using attached storage of some variety, running only the OS and a couple of core applicaions from the onboard drive.

I have two workstations coming, each one configured like this:

Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" Processors

    4GB (4 x 1GB) 667mhz DDR2 Memory

    250GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

    ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB (2 x dual-link DVI)

    2 x 30" Widescreen LCD's

  11. Starcraft is IMHO still the best RTS. I didn't like the AOE series, and found the gameplay too slow for my liking.

I agree on the Starcraft comment. It was one of the most balanced and enjoyable RTS games I've ever played. Of course, the story rocked too, and that has a lot to do with how good a game is. Most RTS games have a throw away story, really. It takes away from the cohesiveness.

  12. I see a Medal of Honour for this guy.  I think it's exactly the sort of thing the award was meant for... the instant and selfless act intended to save your comrades.

The cynic in me sees the Pentagon totally going to town making this guy into super hero as a propaganda ploy, which is sad.

  13. Maybe not funny, but how does a two seater lose engine power and enough controls to bank dive into an appartment complex?  I mean s***, what happened, a bomb went off?

I guess we'll find out from the investigation.

EDIT: I expectthe reason to be a controls failure, and engine was probably cut to slow descent/bank.  Otherwise the pilot was a complete ass.

Even weirder is that he plane is equipes with a parachute system designed to save the airframe and passengers in the event of mechanical or control failure. Safety features also include loads of warning systems.

I'd say that something pretty major happened in that cockpit, in terms of failure, if Lidle had no time to engage any contingency features.

  14. You should try to write in the present tense.

It is a more active voice, and seems far more immediate.

    an example:

Before: An ocean storm was creeping by on the windows as icicles began to form on the windows of the C-130J Hercules. Rain was splattering itself against the sides of the open rear cargo door.

After: The ocean storm creeps by the windows and icicles form on the windows of the Hercules. Rain splatters against the sides of the open rear cargo door.

Using the present tense puts the reader in the moment. Uless you are writing about events in history that have aready happened, the present tense is the way to go.

  15. Amen, brother!

The Canadian Forces are in even more dire straits, althoughmore is being spent. However, it is not nearly enough. We rely far too much on the fact we live next to the USA.

I am glad that then-PM Chretien refused to join the Iraq adventure, and instead commited us to Afghanistan for "peace keeping". At least Afghanistan had a connection to 9/11, and thus some justification for military action. Unlike the Saddam Adventure 2.

  16. Anybody, when will that Jordan man Darek guy be unbanned? I think he deserves a second chance, after all, all he did was.. ehm... well...

there were no rules stating you can't leak Bis material!  tounge_o.gif

There are some rules that shouldn't have to be spelled out, don't you thing? biggrin_o.gif

  17. Please dont talk about Mr jackson in here ;)

Hate the French if you like. Nothing says you have to like other nations. However, please agree that your hatred is based on irrational dislike predicated on propoganda and manipulation, rather than actual fact.

I don't know if it is universal, but I find the average North Americans (I include Canadians in here) is seriously lacking in critical thinking skills; instead he/she relegates judgement based on facts and reason to the trash heap, and instead lets his/her favourite news station and jingoistic political party do the thinking. I find the average Frenchman that I've met to be arrogant and annoying, but I dont hate them. And face it, they had the balls to stand up and tell the US that their march to war on Iraq was wrong, and based on faulty intel and assumptions. And they were right.

  18. And representative of French cowardice, those bastards lost more men fighting the Boche in the first world war than the US has lost in all of it's wars combined. (including that insane total of 600,000+ casualties where y'all were killing each other!)

Chickenshit cowards! Cheese eating surrender monkeys, the lot of them

    crazy_o.gif

I wish the "bash the French" thing would just go away. it is ignorant and represents an opinion totally without basis in reality.
