Having had a friend that blows stuff up on his ranch (old cars, outhouses, toilets, you name it) with gunpowder bobms, the OFP explosions arent that bad. Hell, even the explosion SOUND isnt that bad. But as god is my witness, the sound effect for incoming arty suck like there is no tomorrow.

Only the enlisted men get VD. Officers get non-specific urethritis Poor women of negotiable virtue! And here they thought working on their back would be an easy job.

Kelly Hu, uberhotty of The Scorpion King, admits that she likes spam. The gelatinous pink kind. Weird. As for Wobble, he's always amusing, but some of his spam posts ARE pointless. Like hte one about his grandmothers gas. We needed to know that why?

The old Q is dead. But they have a new one in the person of John Cleese.

The same people that like 'Reality' shows are often the same that like wrestling. I think it's a plot to keep the peace in trailer parks.

Yeah..he was a Marine, and he qualified as a sharpshooter. He killed 17 people, including his wife and his mother. To this day, no one really has any idea why he did it. And that is the problem with all these cases. The shooters usually end up dead at the hands of authorities or by suicide. And that makes it really hard to try to disassemble what they were thinking.

Actually, if I am not mistaken Tex plans on being a marine, but isnt one yet.. [uSMC] is his cla...er.. squad.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Switzerland hasn't got a civilian militia at all.<span id='postcolor'> Now you're splitting hairs! (as am I, I suppose) Their military is a militia. The members are in theory part of a military organization, but they are in essence civilians for the most part. That's why it's a militia versus a national guard. And we are in total agreement that the need to pull a gun to stop a student is a bad bad thing! In the same post, Wobble pointed out tha major problem in all of these school shootings... Even when there are warning signs, they ften go unheeded. The heads only get pulled out of the sand when it's too late. I guess that goes to looking at the reasons behind this sort of thing, and working on assuring the sitaution never degenerates to this point again.

I know it will sound sort of trite.. But if I knew that next thursday would be my last day... I'd spend it talking ot my friends and family. Telling people the things that I've always wanted to say...good and bad. Now..if I was stuck in Groundhog Day...par-tay! I'm sure it would get boring after six months or so...but hell it would be a lot of fun!

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Civilian militia has no place in a civilized socitety. If you have a problem with that you should require more of your police force, it's their job to protect you against the criminals. <span id='postcolor'> Tell that to Switzerland. They have a VERY low incedence of gun crime yet they have a strong 'civilian' militia. I wont disagree with you on making rather strict regulations for the ownership of firearms. I for instance would have to redo a great deal of gun safetly courses to buy a gun in Canada at the moment, because it's been so long since I had a Firearms Aquisition Certificate. And if I chose to do that, I wont balk att taking the required courses and training. I think what we're all arguing about is the US. And...well..that's a situation that defies logic. The American psyche seems to be fixated on guns. From the Old West to the Roaring 20's to WW II to Vietnam to Miami Vice to today, the gun has a powerful place in the collective unconcious of American culture. It's reflected in almost every form of media that comes out of the US. So trying to say 'if sweden had the US's gun problem' doesnt really make a lot of sense, does it?

Pretty much every post you have made except the last one (and yes, I read most of them... if you commented about being a shooter and gun owner, I missed it and I appologise.) on this thread have been pretty Anti Gun. Gun control never quite seems to stop gun crime. Even in a nation like mine (Canada), strict gun control hasnt seemed to have any impact on crimes commited with guns. Instead of knee jerk responses (and this isnt really aimed at you denoir) when horrific things happen, maybe we should look at the actual reasons that the guy went on a rampage... not what he killed people with. After all, would you call for a ban on ladders because hundreds of people are killed each year in falls? As for playing OFP, German auhorities are already saying that violent games lead to doing things like this..so if you play OFP, you must be a latent psychopath, right?
-
Y'know Denoir, for such an anti gun fanatic, I find it rather odd that you have those nifty military patches on your sig. Â After all, they do generally use guns. And do you play OFP? Hypocrite. As for the UK, their gun laws have done NOTHING to curb the illegal use of firearms. If you are interested in reading some FACTS, try this. Â And yes, it's from some pissed off sports shooters in the uk...but it's filled with reliable and honest facts, as well as all the referencing you can need. Â They make this tshirt that sums up about how the legal gun owners in the UK feel about things. I am not a big fan of the rather casual manner in which firearms can be obtained in the US. Â But I dont believe taking legal firearms away from people will help prevent tragedies like this one. Â Private Pyle there owned his guns legally..but whats to say he wouldnt have found illegal ones for the same purpose?

I'd like to go at the age of 99... Naked... Shot in the back by a jealous husband while climbing out a window. Actually..as long as it isnt in pain...I'd like to go with my family around me. Dying alone would have to be the most horrible thing I can think of.

*blinks* Stop the presses! I totally agree with Wobble. think this has to be a first. If you are told NOT to do something, and you continue to do it, you forfeit all rights to complain when you get slapped down for being such a twit.

Georgi, We Were Soldiers totally WASNT that way. It's actually one of the better war films I've seen in a long time. Or the computer geek John Woo movie.. Couch Potato, Hidden Remote

I think it was already posted here..but I love it so much I will put it in this thread. This F15 jockey is doing escort on a BUFF during an exercise. Rather bored with escorting the lumbering bomber, he starts to mouth off the bomber pilot. He rolls and loops andsnidly asks the bomber pilot if he can perform the same feats. The pilot mildly replies that he cant. The fighter jock laughs derisively and says 'Anything you can do, I can do one better..' The bomber pilot says 'Done!' The B-52 keeps flying along, straight and true. The bomber pilot says 'There ya go...beat that' The fighter jock, rather perplexed, says 'You didnt do anything..how can I do it one better' The bomber pilot says 'Wrong. I just shut down two engines'

Guys...chill.. OFP is indeed a really great game. Â It lets you do more than in any other shooter I have ever played. BUT.. No Join in Progress. Â I for one hate sitting around waiting for a map to end so I can hop on and play. Â I think that's the biggest reason that I mainly play SP with OFP. CS is the shit when it comes to fast adrenaline action. Â Anyone trying to compare OFP and CS on 'realism' levels needs to remove their head from a certain dark smelly part of their anatomy. Â CS isnt about realism. It's about action. Â I will agree that the vast majority of CS players are punks. Â that's why I only play on one or two servers that are populated by my friends. If BIS adds Join in Progress with the reworked Netcode on Resistance, I will play OFP a lot more online. Â The few times that I've played I've found the players to be more mature. Liking both games is possible. Â It's just accepting that they are not even remotely the same. Â If you play CS expecting OFP or vice versa, you're going to hate it. 1.4 just released, and the bunnyhoppers hate it! Â You can still jump, but now you slow down appreciably after each little hop. Â It's a lot nicer.

Hum, lets see... Read lately or on my bookshelf... Military: Chickenhawk by Robert Mason Probably one of the best military history books I've ever read. If you want to know what it was like to be a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, this is THE book to read. His style is easily read but also conveys a lot of nuances at the same time. Bravo Two Zero by Andy McNab The story of an SAS recon patrol in Iraq during the gulf war. Some parts are truly horrific, after they are captured. A Bridge Too Far by Cornelius Ryan Strangely, the movie does a decent job of portraying the events of the book. It's an interesting read, because it tells both sides fairly well and gives you some insight into how chance can often play a huge role in armed conflict. Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose Another WW II tale. This time about the US airborne forces. I havent seen the HBO mini series, but the book is wonderful. Fiction: 1984 by George Orwell As dated as it might seem, and as unlikely to happen as it is, it's still an interesting glimpse at the cold war mentality, and of totalitarianism in general. 2 + 2 = 5 Blach Ice, Black Echo, Last Coyote, et al bu Michael Connoly LA Cop Fiction. These things are page turners. I usually wont start reading one in the evening because I'll lay awake half the night trying to finish it. If I kept going, I could make a post as long as the character limit... so I will stop here!

Intel's new xeron cpu (pentium 5)?
Warin replied to Tales_From_Topographic_Oceans's topic in OFFTOPIC
The Xeon is just a higher cache'd P4 processor, and it is certified and designed with multi processor systems in mind. Basically, this is the CPU that Intel pushes for the corporate and scientific server market. It's also totally bloody expensive! Generally it's clock speeds are the same as the P4 processors currently available.
