A10, F15, F16 and Tornado are all land based aircraft and can't use a carrier anyway. If you wanted to go the whole hog and do a genuine aircraft carrier, the planes to use would be the FA18, F14, Â A6 and E2, all of which are floating around in various forms and degrees of quality. If you take a look at a piccy of the Tarawa, you'll see there's actually two elevators there; One dead astern of the flight deck, for vehicles and cargo, and one portside towards the rear for aircraft to use; that square jobby sticking out there.

To scale your model, make the size fit exactly into one square, then multiply by the number of metres in the dimension you are scaling by.

Like people have pointed out before, The Tarawa class is actually a helecopter carrier, though it can take Harriers as well. there are no catapults or arrestors. If you want to make an accurate model, I suggest scripts to hold your sections together while the ship moves and something to hold items on deck in place. On the size issue, I started knocking up a model myself (just a one piece to see what the problems were) and came up with this: Thats with a length of 250metres (From the source I found), just over the 844 feet that Baron Von Beer stated. As you can see, it's a lot smaller than the alpha.

I actually scaled the Tarawa after my last post and believe it or not, from outside the model is actually TOO BIG. But get on deck, and figure this out: I'm confused.

Well, he did say it was alpha. Impressive as hell for eye candy, but when you get close you realise its the wrong scale; maybe quarter size. Is that because of a size limitation of models on OFP? Would it not be better to build it in sections, and have it the correct scale? Colonel Klink's old Radar Station used a gimmick of grouping seperate units so they appeared in the right place; maybe that could be applied here. I noticed a strange bug when I landed a helo on the deck. As I walked away, I was moving very slowly, thogh the animation was working at normal speed. Fair enough, thinks I, and noted it for reporting to the Creator. I turned around and walked back to the helo (A BAS MH6 Littlebird), and noticed that when I moved, the helo did as well, mirroring my movements. Very odd. Second problem, you fall through the deck from midships to stern. I don't know if you are aware of the bugs, so I'll report them is I see them. Keep up the good work.

Besides, all the later Hueys should be in Marine colours. Just using existing while he builds? My thought is that they're too good. I will be very impressed if these aircraft are produced. Notice; they're on an O2 background, but not ingame, even with an object Config file? I smell a rat.

  14. You'll need to De-PBO the file, make the adjustment, then pack it again. The config is very clearly layed out; the correct line will be easy to find. You need PBO Tool. Bear in mind we've not heard what Colonel Klink thinks about all this.
  15. this aircraft is Jaw-droppingly beautiful; easiest the best looking aircraft in OFP now, bar none. I had a quick play with it last night and found the roll rate to be as savage as most other beta OFP aircraft. as far as the unique attributes of this type of aircraft goes, I concluded that the only way to land accurately using VTOL would be the equivalent of curling; get to about 10 AGL, hit VTOL, hope you stop in the right place and cut the engine. I guess that could be done with practice, but a bit difficult to learn. When I read LHO's fix, I tried it myself. It almost deletes the need for a VTOL script (operationally, vertical takeoff is hardly ever used, it takes too much fuel, whereas vertical landing is always used at sea). Low speed handling is great. But... I don't know if this is a problem with the unmodified config (I didn't think to try it before); the AI find it impossible to land at the airport, managing to hit anything except the runway, usually terminally. LHO's discovery is great for players, but may have screwed things for the AI; my bad for not confirming how the AI handled landings beforehand. As a stopgap, if KK's original Config worked fine in respect to landing, coudn't an AI only version be made too?
  16. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (AngusHeaf @ April 25 2003,01:50)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Landing in VTOL is actually pretty easy... slow to stall speed (110) at about 40m and line up straight at your landing point cause you can't adjust after you go into VTOL. Turn on VTOL and start decreasing thrust til you eventually go nose-first into the ground (don't worry it won't hurt...bad) and cut the engine. Takes practice but it's definitely doable.<span id='postcolor'> That's pretty much how it's done in real life. Bring it to a hover maybe about 20 feet from the deck, and cut the engines. As thrust decreases, it drops, though not quite in freefall. The VTOL will do fine if forward speed can be adjusted, and some directional control added. It is possible to remap keys in ofp. could the controls be added as keyboard commands, perhaps via scripts?

    Bas mh-47e released!

Many thanks, BAS. Is there any way around having to be grouped with the bird to issue the new commands? Something for future research, or will you be leaving as is?

Regarding 1.2: Removing the need does not necessarily mean that one day you will not have use for an ash tray. No complaints, but questions regarding AI implementation of the new commands. No I haven't got that far yet, but is the new stuff available to DOCOMMAND? Thanks for the ramp, BTW
