I prefer the Steyr. Zoomfactor is dead on, it's very precise and has a confortable rate of auto fire. With G36 I seem to use too much ammo too fast, and I also think the weapon brings OFP out of balance. It's too much a Rambo rifle. My oldtime favourite is the AK74, though. Great on single fire mode, shooting from the hip.

My UN addon will include a guide and overview about the UN organisation and history, as many people seems to be confused about how they operate. NATO is NOT part of UN. UN and NATO are two completely seperate organizations, which happens to have many of the same countries as members. UN does not have an army, All troops that serve in blue are lead by their own national leaders, to carry out tasks for the UN organization, such as peace keeping or peace inforcement. They are however still under direct command of their own nation, so could never be ordered by the UN, to do anything against their will. However, there are quite a few restrictions they have to accept, but these are custom tailored to the specific situation. In balkan, for example, the restrictions where quite alot harsher than in Korea in the 50s or more recent examples in Africa, after the term "peace inforcement" was introduced. UN troops are often supplied by NATO countries to carry out tasks in the interest of world peace and stability. Therefore it's absolutely unthinkable that the UN and NATO would come to fight eachother. Regarding the skins, I did not intend to imply that Noone didn't do his own models. I'm certain that he did. I was simply noting that I have been working on a similar addon for quite some time. I hope there will be minimal confusion, with several UN addons on the web.

looks awesome! Just remember to set viewdistance to something like 5000. There's no fog in the desert

Funny, I'm also making a UN addon. Look at http://www.ofp.jolt.co.uk/mods_un_addon.htm

they will still see you through the crown of a tipped over tree! So if tanks knock trees down, don't hide behind the tree!

I prefer to play east in multiplay. I think they're better balanced and they also should be. Even more ruski stuff in the future, I hope. The AK74 far outmatches the plastic M16. Shooting from the hip I usually get headshots 50% of the time, with an AK74. It also has full auto for those panic situations, and by the way, it sounds better BMP's are great too, if you keep moving and firing, never slowing down or heading too long in the same direction. BMP2's simply rule, when there are no western tanks around. And then there's the Hind ..... (Edited by WKK Gimbal at 3:53 am on Dec. 24, 2001)

Hey, Just wanna say thanks for the 1.40 patch! The real-paintball map is killing me! It's an insanely great idea! merry x-mas

yeah, we're the most greedy and unsatisfied bunch of whiners on this earth. Should BIS ever leave the games business, it would be to get rid of us! ;-D merry X-mas BIS and all.

Well, I'm working on a small campaign that will be included in the addon. It will punch at some of the many bad rumours about the UN's efforts. There has been countless cases where UN troops have helped saving lives of those who are completely ignored by the rest of the world community, even while struggling with the harsh restrictions they where under. Just an example, Danish UN Leppard tanks responded directly to fire, while protecting a convoy in Bosnia and continued shelling the aggressors until they where out of ammo. What they where not allowed to do, was CHASE the aggressors after they fleed, i.e. become aggressors themselves. The main problems that have forced UN troops to withdraw from safe zones, have been that the member countries have not supplied the troops required, and on time, nor paid their dept to UN for years (I'm not mentioning any countries here).

Just imagine some years from now ... we'll have a completely believable world, with ambient life, AI responding to gestures and speech, and completely realistic weapons and vehicles ... niiice. Future is truly bright for the nerds!

I got a bad feeling that this won't get public.

Hey, I've got some suggestions for improving the A10, Cessna and SUs. Jets should have an afterburner. It could be activated by pressing the Sprint key. It would give considerable acceleration, but consume vast amounts of fuel. The Num-0 key is unused in planes. In fighters, this could toggle a working HUD, with guidance trails for cannon fire, bomb drops, etc. The landing gear is extractable while on the ground. Kinda silly? Same goes with Mavericks. They should not be useable while on the ground as they drop to far before rocket kicks in. Autobreaking is a bit annoying. If the plane hits a tiny dent on the runway, the plane will extract flaps and hit the brakes all by itself. Not wanted during takeoff! The Cessna should be able to take-off and land on plain fields. Currently not possible (though you can drive it off a cliff). This would give many new options to mission making. Hotkeys! Eject, Flaps up/down, Gear up/down could really use some hotkeys. AA missiles and flares/chaff would add alot to dogfights. Pilots should be able to float when ejecting into the sea. Their vest would emit green smoke, so rescuers could find them. If the player don't wanna be stuck in the middle of the pacific, suicide is the option. Parachutes with manual opening, so you could choose to freefall or even HALO. The chute should also be left on the ground after landing - gives away your last position. ECM, radarjamming on jets - and SAMs to match! Navi-lights on runways, atleast at night or in fog. Or maybe an AI call-the-ball radio guidance. Autopilot Landing is for sissies and VERY unrealistic. Please, BIS. Have a look at the old game 'F/A-18 Korea'. It has the perfect balance between conplexity and good gameplay. The graphics are old, but the flightmodel rocks - not too hard to learn, but has enough depth for those who wanna play Aces of the Sky. Maybe for OFP2? Sure, I could just buy a flight sim if that's what I wanted. But flight sims don't have real players running around at ground level or the option to get in/out of the plane. I don't think the concept of making all vehicles instantly useable is good at all times. Give those who likes planes a challenge, and those who don't bother the option to stay on the ground. Cheers!

MOHAA is completely different from OFP, I don't see how it can stampede over it. MOHAA looks like it's based at a lower level of action, i.e. not big force movements, rather single guy sneaking.
-
You all seem to miss my point... Since the planes are already there, why not spend a little efford to make them work much better?? See my first post, regarding the "buy a flight sim" argument. It's like if someone suggest a change to the spec ops parts of OFP and I just say "Buy Rainbow Six". (Edited by WKK Gimbal at 9:59 pm on Dec. 13, 2001)

After playing OFP, I see Quake and UT as an insult to anyones intelligence. It's a completely lame frag-fest with no goals or purpose, other than to drive you nuts and think that sewers are the only places you can move around in. I hate sewers! I hate crates! I hate auto-medkits! I hate guns you can dodge! I hate 20 square m. dungeons with no exits! I hate Ken-dolls jumping around with Gattlings!
-
Yeah, it's just a blow-up rubber LST! Heheh.
-
It was with such things in mind that I referred to the old 'F/A-18 Korea' and not 'Falcon 4', which is too complex (and buggy) to fit into OFP. These suggestions I have listed does in no way make OFP a full-fledged flight sim, it would simply add a little more joy and realism to the flying aspect of the game. Who don't want joy and realism? BTW, just like BIS has done on their flight mission, you can set a longer viewdistance on such missions, simply in a trigger. Somewhere around 2000 really improves aviation.

It's easy to modify the soldiers so that AI gets a detection penalty. Just adjust the camo value in the config. Lower is better. Just a little tad would do. Kegetys, you should consider that for any winter island updates you might make.

Yeah OFP is cool. You can calculate how far away an enemy tank is by measuring the time from the impact to the hearing the sound of the shell being fire (speed of sound delay rocks).

Sorry, the URL is <a href="http://www.ofp.jolt.co.uk/ Å4000" target="_blank">http://www.ofp.jolt.co.uk/ Å4000</a> for a website? I doubt I'd buy that!

The shots where just taken in SP. The guy in the background is just part of my squad so I can use the command view to take snapshots BTW, update due soon. It will be on www.OFP.co.uk

Ok, we all know AI drivers are awful. But here a few things that would make life ALOT easier for both the AI and the players! First, civilians and others driving cars should STICK to the road, and not zig-zag into the side of the road all the time. It should not be too difficult to make the AI focus on the road when driving non-offroad vehicles. Try putting a sportscar on Malden with waypoints along a road and watch him drive! Second, when using the arrow keys to direct an AI tank driver, the keys should function like when you drive it yourself. Forward means forward, but sometimes AI start making strange detours and drive in other directions or go slow: This makes them lethal close to mined areas! If your tank is being shelled by enemies, you want the driver to go reverse when you say so, and not when he feels like it! When other people are chatting on the radio, your orders to the driver gets low priority. This can mean that when you say stop, he can continue driving forward several 100 meters before he gets the command, because someone else takes up the bandwith with their chatter! This is highly lethal and very very annoying! By giving the player commander direct control of the driving, with the arrow keys, all this will be solved! He can still say the commands for cosmetic reasons.
