I am just curious, that's all. I enjoy this mod very much.
Pvp with such wide range of units, weapons and amazing animations, while keeping original Ofp feeling is a good idea for every evening, isnt it? :)
Since Resistance campaign is based on BI weapons, it won't feature the new ones.
I think so, I might be wrong.
I would love to play Cwc and Res once again with new M16A2 ;)

Simple answer : replacing the BIS content is not the point of the WW4 mod.Kind of making it impossible to play Resistance with new weapons, isnt it?

What's the point of the mod? When I first installed it, about a year ago, my first thought was that Player vs Player is the purpose, but I'm not sure whether this works online.

@Norailgunner, As I said before, through an action menu, coming very close from behind and choosing an option. Animation is performed. Done.
I guess we cannot even dream about fight-system in arma. Anyway, why would we? Simple use of knife is all that I need considering what this topic is about.

Ask yourself this: Is the knife wasn't part of Splinter Cell/COD would you still think it was "missing" in Arma 2?Also, if you're constantly getting into a situation where you've run out of ammo and are still in direct combat, perhaps you need to plan better instead of falling back on a knife? ;)

And no, I never run out of ammo.

So is there a percent change that an AI rifleman will see a motionless, silent soldier through a house?From what I know, AI cant see a prone, silent soldier even when running next to him.
Check it out, place yourself on the open field, go prone and watch as russian patrol just runs next to you.

About KA-BAR, I only gave it as an example as it's blade is 17 cm long.
I remember that knives were implemented really good in Conflict Vietnam.

I agree with Günter Severloh. It would make the game more interesting.
@Ulanthorn, simply, by action menu. You come close to AI from the back, choose "Knife Kill" in action menu. Animation is performed. AI falls dead. Done.
But first, you'd have to carry a knife in your inventory.
In Arma2, crawling is the most quiet of all stances/movements. I disagree, walking should be.

Sorry for bumping an old thread... but...
I have been playing Arma2 on pvp servers for few days, and already had few chances to use a knife. As there's none, I simply closed in and shot.
Guns run out of ammo, SD weapons aren't really silenced. Without environment(wind, rain) or other noises, it's not possible to sneak up to someone or shoot an SD weapon without alerting enemy. -- IMHO.
I don't want to pretend I know anything about SF Ops, because I don't.
All I can say is that it would be very fancy, to walk up close and use knife on an unaware guard.
Before you blame me: I dont play COD, but Splinter Cell xD

Some issues with Eagle Wing campaign:
- intro camera is floating around outside the AH64
- SU25 could be only shot down and destroyed on runway
- teamleader did not wait till all were in the Praha V35 truck, two of them had to run to Balota
- cutscene "choosing matches" kicked in despite enemies were still around and shooting

First mission on Harvest Red campaign gives these errors.
NoRailgunner, I have just tested EW on 1.08. It works very good, without any error.
Same goes for "First to fight" mission. No errors at all.
I guess you should reinstall your Arma2 and apply patch 1.00to1.08 directly.

Did you know that Saudi Arabia bought military equipment and technology from USA for 60 billion dollars? F15s, AH64s, intelligent bombs...
They and Israel alone would invade Iran leaving only the dust. But since they hate each other...
United States is much more powerful.

What I would like to see is:
USA as Blufor
Russian Federation as Blufor
NATO(European forces) as Blufor
And a country with great and modern military strenght, theoritically being a threat to above mentioned blufor...
...That would be China as Opfor :)
That would make an easy scenario:
RF decides to join US in Afghan to help - war is over.
After several years China decides to conquer new territory as their population grew to 2 billion.
China invades RF, calling their allies for help.
US, EU, RF (1 billion people) against China (2 billion people) - World War 3.
World War 3, only in Arma 3.

Well, I guess that since you have steam version, the steam should apply patches by itself.
From what I know, CO+BAF needs only OApatch.
But I might be wrong. Check forums, you might find something useful here.

For anything's sake. Why is sway so big? It's simple, it's not meant to be realistic, but to prevent multiplayer game from run-n-gun Call of Duty style of gameplay.
I can walk forward and still shoot semi-auto at target's center of mass up to 40 meters.
You can't do this? Fine, then I recommend you Coop gamemode.

I seem to be getting kicked out of every server i join. I can get into the server lobby but when i click ok to load up it kicks me out.There is no message or anything.

Whoa, I've got a big update.
I have reinstalled Arma2 and applied directly the patch 1.00 to 1.08 from Arma2.com.
On the page 2 in this thread, I've posted a benchmark comparison, telling that Arma2 1.08 features a framerate drop, by 1 (please, don't laugh;] )
After what is above mentioned, I decided to do it again.
First try: 29 fps avg.
Second try: 30 fps avg.
(For more details refer to 2nd page.)
Looks like the performance has increased, sorry for questioning you, BI. :)
Now I will look into it and more, so stay tuned.

Hi, new bugs on the campaign.- First To Fight.
- When you're on the Khe-Shan's deck hearing the comander or whatever... there is not sound, but you can still see the white text.
- When you follow the S.Leader to the briefing room... there's no sound and the screen turns entirely black seeing only the white text, this happens until the briefing ends.
- When you go to talk to Maddox, if you choose to be chillout with him... the entire screen turns black and you can only see the text, hear the UH-Y Venom's blades but the screen remains entirely black.
I've tried that mission a minute ago, none of this occured. Every aspect of the mission worked flawlessly.
I have found an easter egg:
The USMC officer standing next to briefing room is named Joseph Allen. It's one of the main characters from Modern Warfare 2, haha.
What a coincidence. :D

Carl, you're right. I've never shot a rifle, as it's not legal in my country and I am still not adult. However, shooting a gun gives you only the idea, and not the knowledge.
And well, combat is just different than shooting on a shooting range.
About ingame:
It's just a matter of preference. You can just spray one-by-one (1.07) or you can aim every bullet (1.08).
I personally prefer the ACE1 weapons' recoil, which is similar to that of 1.08, but more fancy.
Not only will the timing be difficult to master[...]O, really?
And yes, OA is the same, from what I know.

Yes, M107 is overdone. From what I know, counterrecoil systems in Barrett makes the recoil even lower than that of Remington700.
What makes it hard to shoot while standing is not the recoil, but its weight... about 13kg.
But well... I guess that nothing is perfect, especially BI Games :P
Who needs a perfect game, anyway?...

I haven't fired any of the rifles in the game, but I used to match shoot in the VIth form & at University (.22 match rifles locally, .303 Lee Enfields occasionally at Bisley) and I go skeet shooting every 2-3 months with a group of friends. I find the recoil rather unrealistic. Yes, any gun will kick up (and a rifle also to one side or other depending on the direction of rifling, but that's a relatively minor issue; at least on semi).However, if you are holding the rifle correctly, especially if braced using the sling, your muscles resist the recoil and pull the rifle back somewhere near the original position in an essentially involuntary action.
In this update rifles kick up and stay there, which is unnatural and, to me, unrealistic. Also makes firing on semi much harder than I believe it should be. Haven't tried the M107 yet, can I expect it to end up vertical? :p

Well, in real life you shoot a firearm. Ingame you press mouse button.
Tell me, what would happen, if you pressed the trigger, not controlling the recoil? The gun would jump up.
It's same in Arma2, you have to control it Yourself. The avatar you're playing won't control the gun for you, you have to use your mouse instead.
To me, it grants a feeling that you actually shoot you rifle, and not just press the mouse button.
Do not play the game at 25fps~. It's laggy and everything works slower.
Try maintaining more than 35-40. Everything is smoother and nicer to play.
Usually, the more frames, the better. All the way to 60, of course.
