    Stiff Standing Civilians

    Yup.. they do with that one technology that simulates body movement don't they? Ragdolls are obviously not a part of the game, so fluid movement I guess is another obstacle and another job for more animations.. I mean, there'd have to be an animation for idel1 connecting with getting shot 4, which connects to falling 7, then landing 12, then computing all possible ways the person could fall and die from standing in an idle position with it all seeming fluid. It all just... I don't know, seems a lot more complicated than it could be. Perhaps there's something making those technology hurdles impassible.. but what do I know, I'm like, noob and stuff.

    Battlefield: 1943

    2 words.. Cash Cow.. You make a crappy pair of shoes and put the Nike symbol on the side and it will max out its pre-orders by the next morning. Just like what EA is doing here with the Battlefield Series. I'd like to go off on DICE, who are making this game because they are getting a little too ambitious and I'm getting a little sick and tired of it. They obviously know everyone wants to see BF3, and they're just milking the cow as long as they can while everyone is sitting around salivating for it. DICE has a decent sized work force. However, they are: Creating "Battlefield Heroes", "Bad Company 2", and continuing support for the "Bad Company" and just finished help produce "Mirrors Edge". If that isn't enough, just throw in Battlefield 1943. The Battlefield 19## Series has been the cornerstone of DICE... Just the name itself says to the fans, "this is going to be big". But now it appears that the money is NOT in the QUALITY, but the QUANTITY/NUMBER of sales. My guess is EA sent the order down, forcing DICE to overwork on creating more games they can handle and forcing release dates down their throats. Probably part of the reason DICE is deciding to use the same game-engine from "Bad Company" to make Battlefield 1943. With these small 24 player maps, the level sizes will obviously be smaller to make up for the 'players per square meter' idea and they will have to appeal to the people just walking off of Call of Duty.. The BF series has its own vibe, so comparing it to a game like Call of Duty isn't fair, but with the almost certain small level sizes of 1943, it will seem as if its trying to be CoD and it will fail miserably. Now to the level of size... The game will only be 350MB for Consoles... 350MB, now that's pretty pathetic by any standard. I could imagine this game becoming some DLC that people could buy for $10-15 bucks in a month or two while waiting for their beloved "Bad Company 2" while us PC players are left in the wind. I have been all over websites and forums online and the feedback is pretty straight forward, most players don't like it. At least that's my take on the whole thing. I personally hope (and believe they will) that DICE & EA get an unimaginative amount of bad press & publicity out of this so they can start thinking about their business model and treating the BF series not like some Nike Sign on a crappy pair of shoes. My confidence in DICE is gone. Edit: Apparently EA is 100% fused with DICE and they are one company.. Wellp, go figure. All is lost. Edit2: Now is probably the best window of opportunity for BIS. When the market is craving for something new and exciting, its the perfect time to strike! But don't rush it.. nono! Its hard to strike that balance.     ArmA maps are TOO large for public servers

    All I can remember playing (when I was a frequent player 4 months back) was Bezerk and even way back in OFP's Battlefield 1985 maps...They are all over the place Unless you mean official missions that is. I mean I'd agree to a Warfare where the number of players at mission start dynamically scaled to the number of players in-game... but I think the community this time around will be much larger as the new players wont be so hasty to run away due to a bunch of glitches etc. So we shall not worry about our favorite type of missions as they're sure is going to be many.
  5. From all the videos it seems like the civilians (like the civilians from Arma), their heads mostly are turned in some odd direction.. like its impossible to look forward for 3 seconds
  6. I don't know what it is, it looks like they are trying to go for that grittiness and dirty atmosphere, but I just don't get that vibe like I did with OFP while watching this. Perhaps its the smooth textures or post processing idk... opposed to ofp being sharp and crisp, but that's what I liked.. but I guess its impossible to get around with today's graphics and whatnot. Anyways pretty excited. My life will pretty much be overrun once this comes out. So all I can suggest is that they take their sweet time and come up with a product that will keep me going for another 6 years as did ofp.

    I agree! I also liked the Russian voices. I agree as well. Oh and as for the, "they'd have to record a lot" opinion... all they need to do is grab a few beers, sit down with a microphone for one day and just go down the list.

    Pfft my video thread on this game gets locked because this supposedly is "the" Gta4 thread, when it blatenly says "screenshots" in the subtitle.. therefore, this is the screenshot thread and not "the" GTA thread... :/ Then if it was in the media thread it'd probably be deleted because its supposed to be in this supposed "GTA thread" (which doesn't even exist)... and I wondered why I don't visit these forums as much as I used to. I honestly don't get whats the big deal about having a few threads about whatever off topic thing we wish to discuss. Out of the 6 major forums I visit this is the only one that locks all discussion to one single thread. Stupid

    New road textures.

    I know the game is WIP, but I hope yall over at BIS change the street textures before the games launch. The streets are obviously taken straight from Armed Assault 1, and I was hoping for an experience on Arma2 that doesn't exactly feel the same as the first one. Even if the game is WIP, the road textures (from what I have seen) are seamless at intersections and road merges, so unless BIS has been tweaking the roads and their textures thus far... I at least hope the roads are temporary.

    Well all this talk about a revitalized & the true successor of OFP... I just don't want to feel like its just rehashed Arma1 all over again for my $. If the game were, say for example: Armed Assault Resistance (expansion), then using the same resources makes sense. In my view however, an entirely new game (In this case: 2.0), the new game shouldn't just rehash old textures and call it Arma2.

    I've compiled a bunch of images I've spotted on Arma2 news sites: Small Youtube Video Seems odd to add a lot of 3D tracks & terrain/road/building modification & additions for only visual appeal. Well... perhaps, it IS a shipyard. However, the video shows a vast network hub of tracks, perhaps even a station according to the video. Sorry if repost: I did not catch it in search.

    Warfare 1.1.x [ Ofp-World-ck]-32

    Few questions: 1. Matt's N+S version depended on supply trucks. Have you checked to see if the supply trucks travel between the correct towns? 2. Does fast travel work between all of the capture points? Between major islands? How does a full game hold up with a decent amount of people? I would say 60% of all 32 player maps from the N+S's all end up in crashing the server. However a map like this is much larger than Sahrani, how does it hold up? All those aside, looks good!

    Will Arma 2 need a different program?

    Kinda sucks as I'd love to hear from BIS specifically is going to be 100% convertible and what programs to use and what can be used/what to expect etc...etc.. That way when Arma2 comes out, a world of user generated content would nearly be done (6 months from now that is when Arma2 is released). Then we'd have a bunch of new content right away... newer players would be much more excited about the future prospects into the game, and who knows... maybe a few more modders too! Not to mention, word of mouth when people are talking "Dude check this out", to all of their coworkers, because I'm sure we all talk like that at work.
