    ArmA II and 64bit

What about i7 systems with 6GB,12GB and eventually 24GB of memory. If there is going to be as much problems as Arma had upon launch then Arma II won't even be worthy of my time. Arma II needs a rigorous testing cycle to ensure it works on various hardware ranging from mid-end (maybe even low-end) to ultra high-end (i7, Phenom II).

    Empire : Total War

Is Empire Total War Special Forces Edition available only VIA steam ?. I've been hoping to try it out but if it's bug ridden and available only VIA steam then I won't bother.
  6. Take a look at Intel's "Larrabee" project. Things seem to be heading the way you describe. Im confused, internal SLI has been around for quite a while now - since around 2006 with the 7950GX2. Yet that sort of technology has been stuck in the high end because nVidia has a bit of a chicken and an egg problem with nobody supporting SLI because nobody has bought it. That said, even if its working at its best - two cards will only be about 50% faster than one. Therefore, the benefit is a bit dubious at best. Of course, I would never be as cynical as to suggest that it's a cheap ploy by nVidia to make people want to purchase more cards than they need  You are absolutely wrong with you're scaling statistics. Most video cards scale at 80%+ today depending on the video card configuration , drivers etc.... Just read some Anandtech reviews.

I'm going to be doing nothing actually. Infact I will crank up my electricity and power consumption and tell my friends and family to do the same. You green hippies/yuppies can do whatever you want and hug a tree.
  8. You do realize those cards use internal crossfire/sli right ?. I'd rather the game be optimized properly for the latest hardware and have excellent scaling for both crossfire and SLI. Also you do realize the 9800 GX2 is no longer in production and obsolete.

    1. I don't assert that the amount of ram channels affects the voltage. This is because I have seen triple channel memory kits that operate at 1.5v from numerous manufacturers. Also you could run a dual channel DDR3 memory kit from 1.5v to 1.65v but why would you when the motherboards have six dimm slots and are designed specifically for triple channel. Tweaktown is far from a reliable source , their P45 vs X48 crossfire performance review is highly disputed because the results have been disproved. The P6T is not my beloved board I use the EVGA X58 SLI at the moment.

Yea make up some information to not admit you are wrong. I7 requires that the memory kits not exceed 1.65v (a .5 to 1.66v volt is okay). The reason for this limitation is due to Intel's first generation IMC implemented in the Nehalem architecture Bloomfield cpu's. Motherboard's designed for the X58 don't allow memory kits to properly run that exceed 1.65v and in the BIOS you cannot exceed 1.65v when you are setting the DRAM voltage. Previous chipsets didn't really have a voltage limitation thats why you can find 2.0v and higher overclocked kits that work on the X48 and previous chipsets with some fiddling without problems. With X58 it's different you need low voltage triple channel kits. How many times do I have to repeat myself so that you can finally admit you are wrong. You clearly are inexperienced and misinformed in the matters of the i7 cpu's. http://www.intel.com/en_US/Assets/PDF/prodspec/XMP_core_i7_02_09.pdf http://www.intel.com/en_US....ei7.pdf You don't see memory kits over 1.65v listed because they are not COMPATIBLE. Keep arguing on this matter and you will dig a hole deeper and deeper for yourself.

Lolwut? The standard voltage of DDR3 is 1.5V. The only circumstances under which any memory stick will exceed its standard voltage is if you overvolt it in the BIOS. The quantity of RAM has absolutely nothing to do with the voltage at which the RAM runs. Further more, if what you are saying is true, that would mean that the benchmarks I read couldn't have possibly been carried  out (Do a quick google of "Core i7 Dual Channel"). What you're saying makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, and give the impression that you don't know anything, and are merely repeating misinterpretations of things you've read on websites of questionable quality. In future, if you are going to call someone ignorant, make sure you get the facts right. It's rather humorous when these things backfire on you.  Yea why dont you take you're own advice and stop posting bollocks and just google it. Then you would realize that unless those memory kits are triple channel they exceeed the maximum allowed voltage for the i7 cpu's which is 1.65v (you can set them to 1.66v but no further). Just because the DDR3 JEDEC spec calls for 1.5v doesn't mean anything. You suggested those DDR3 2GB/4GB kits but why don't you look at their voltage at which they are rated to operate at. It's just pointless arguing with somebody who has no hands on experience or complete knowledge on the i7. Btw: http://hothardware.com/Article....?page=1 TRIPLE CHANNEL is the recommended configuration for X58 motherboards. It doesn't fill up the whole motherboard right away unless you have 2 TRIPLE CHANNEL kits.

Classic. Incidentally, you don't actually need to buy triple channel memory kits for the Core i7, all the benchmarks I've seen indicate that the difference between it and dual-channel is negligible. You'd get the triple channel kits to cram more RAM into your motherboards, not to make your PC go faster. If you don't need more than 2 or 4 gigs of RAM, dont buy it. . You have no idea what you are talking about when it comes down to the core i7 cpu's. They need memory kits with a voltage that doesnt exceed 1.65v (triple channel memory kits provide those only). Those 2gb and 4gb kits exceed 1.65v and will incidentally damage the memory controller on the i7. Thanks for giving me a great laugh.

Don't bother. Wait for the launch of RV790 on the April 6th. Unless you want to max out Crysis there is no need for a 285/295. Infact those are overpriced video cards when the AMD video cards perform nearly equally. I know coming from a Quad-SLI 295 owner but these cards just require too much energy and put off enough heat to heat a house in Antarctica . A core i7 solution will put you off alot of money because you need a new cpu , x58 motherboard (asus/gigabyte preferably) and triple channel ddr3 memory kit. I'd go for the RV790 (1gb OC) model combined with the Phenom X4 II 940 , Asus M479 Deluxe and Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066 4GB kit (with memory fan). Almost forget you definitely need a new power supply something in the range of 750 Watts for the 295/285 (Corsair TX 750) and you might look into better airflow/cooling for the GTX 295/285 possibly in the form of a better case.

    Armed Assault and Vista 64

Funny. Are you the same Universal who keeps boasting about his dual HD4870X2 system with a Core i7 965? The one who also claimed he bought two GTX295s "just to test them out"? Seriously, this is the troubleshooting section. If you aren't prepared to help people's problems, stay out of the way until you can. Someone should lock this thread up if there's nothing more to be done to help the original poster. Going back onto topic - Lolmaster, I assume these problems only apply to ArmA? Actually that was a typo it's dual 4850 X2's. The scaling is better overall than with 2 4870 X2's but I've decided to stick with Quad-SLI GTX 295's for futureproofing. I'm actually using a i7 920 as I just found that the difference(performance wise) and overclocking wise wasn't that great. My 920 is running 24/7 stable at @ 3.8ghz and I'm aiming for 4.0ghz. But I agree on one point you made and that is until we can find solutions to the original poster's problems then we can't really help. It's similar to what other posters encountered with 4870 X2's in a similar chipset configuration.

. No comment here. Because Armed Assault is a POS. The only reason I still am in the BI community is because I am awaiting ARMA 2 and if it is horrible compared to OFP2 then I am boycotting BI. End of story. hello? everyone? Â and your link to said info? Â ARMA absolutely uses 2,3 or 4 gpus.. Your complete lack of understanding the issue, and your constant trolling in this forum.. well it amazes me your not banned. Â Pure crapper and troll. Not as much as the trolls who make up system specifications. Yea ARMA uses quad-fire (properly called CrossfireX) . Actually you're a constant troll because you like to brag about how fancy you're system is with you're 4870 X2's when all that is just words. You're utter fail really. Go back to Worshipping Bush and Obama or go do something productive other than steal peoples money and cause economic crisis.

kklownboy, no you're trolling. Making up systems which you don't have for fun . Everyone knows that ARMA doesn't take advantage of 4 GPU's. This thread is ultimate fail and the hardware knowledge of the BI community . . No comment here. Because Armed Assault is a POS. The only reason I still am in the BI community is because I am awaiting ARMA 2 and if it is horrible compared to OFP2 then I am boycotting BI. End of story. Yea it's the worst operating system since windows 95. Stop complaining , I love Vista and have no problems with it. If you can't run it well then it's you're fault no need to blame it on the operating system.

    Armed Assault and Vista 64

What kind of game developer creates so many problems with top-end hardware . It's Bohemia Interactive. Don't expect great and solid fps overall with that configuration because BI cannot optimize the game properly. It's poorly coded. I'm not even going to bother trying ARMA with my core i7 setup. BI you fail big time.

    Performance with ATI 4850 = NVDIA 7800GT

Armed Assault is as poorly coded as the GTA IV to PC port is. Pairing up a PhII 940 BE with a 790GX chipset . You need a 790FX/SB750 and a PhII 940 BE to fully take advantage of the PhII overclocking potential.

    Performance with ATI 4850 = NVDIA 7800GT

You're cpu is the bottleneck here. It's the easiest thing it is for someone who is inexperienced in computer hardware to blame it on the video card or compare it to an outdated Nvidia architecture. Pick up the Asus M4A79 Deluxe instead of that MSI board and you should see major performance improvements.

Unless you have something objective to back up your claim, you are an ATI fanboy by your own logic. I refer to the bit where I said "in my own experience". Now, I never said nVidia drivers are perfect, and I have no problems admitting that I've had more than a few problems. It's just that I've had much more with ATI drivers. My problem with your "proof" that nVidia drivers are inferior, is that it makes absolutely no sense. Graphics cards drivers are extraordinarily complicated pieces of software. No matter how hard you try, there will always be A) bugs, lots of bugs and B) some new game that comes onto the market that doesn't work nicely with your pre-existing software that causes it to fuck up. So generally, regular updates are a good thing. Software that isn't updated regularily tends to suck. Eg - Anything made by Microsoft. For the rest of us who don't spend our days pouring LN2 onto our CPUs, there isn't any real substantial reason to spend about €100 extra on the ASUS board. Sure it has some higher overclocking headroom, but with the money that you'd need to get fancy watercooling and RAM to make the most of it, you'd be better off just buying a faster graphics card or something. Yea I am a real fanboy because I have owned and used both products made by AMD/Intel Nvidia/ATI. . With Gigabyte's RMA being as horrible as it these days the Asus Rampage II extreme has more features , better warranty etc... over the Gigabyte EX58 extreme. Infact Asus has recently offered their premium service whice allows faster servicing for their ROG boards which means no longer waiting months for a refurbished board. Fact of the matter is the EX58 Extreme made by Gigabyte the only potential overclocking advantage it has is for the i7 920 but otherwise the Rampage II Extreme will push the 940 and the 965 to higher speeds than you would get with overclocking the i7 920. Infact using Nvidia drivers has given me more headaches and bsod's than I have ever encountered with ATI's drivers and other than some small bugs with the Catalyst 9.2's they release pretty solid drivers. I would say though that if Rebl_Man doesn't want the Asus X58 motherboards he can always look at the EVGA X58 SLI. It's quite a solid and stable board and has great support.

Claiming Nvidia drivers are better than ATI drivers makes you a true Nvidia fanboy. The Rampage II extreme is by far the best X58 motherboard available and in benchmarks and reviews outperforms the GIGABYTE EX58 EXTREME. This board is also the best for overclocking i7 cpu's and has set world records. . Go attack people somewhere else.
