    1.94 problems

I think I have gotten rid of my out of memory problems.  I simply deleted some of my addons.  I'm affraid this game will never be stable as long as I have third party addons, missions, and campaigns installed.  As far as the BAS_OPFOR addons go....  I am very impressed.  It seems whenever I am about to lose interest in OFP, someone releases something new that revives my interest.  The only thing is that you really need to release this as a mod.  This addons pack is way to big to just throw into the addons folder with everything else.  It should be installed into it's own mod folder.  On my PC I have it in a folder labled BAS.  Then the executable is labled  .....flashpoint/"flashpointbeta.exe" -mod=BAS -nomap. Although I had to put the animations folder in the Res/addons folder to make it work right.

    Hunting the big ctd

I have heard about 1.93c. Any idea where I can get it? Also I have done performance analysis' while playing OFP and it seems that you might be right about the memory. It seems that the processor workload drops off, and then memory and hard drive pages go off the scale right before the crash. I thought I fixed the problem by running OFP in Windows2000 compatibility mode, but now the problem is back.

    Hunting the big ctd

Yes I did send BIS my system specs, AND the requested OFP files a week abo. Still no response. Forgive me for sounding impatient, but I have been strugling to make this freakin game run without crashing for almost a year now. After countless hours tweaking Windows, my BIOS, and the game, (and the loss of a hardrive partition *cough*) I am still plagued with this problem. I know it isn't an addon, because this happens even after a clean install after removing all the third party addon and mod folders. I know it isn't the view distance or terrain detail because I have tried turning these all down to minimum settings. I know it isn't Still it will crash when I fly an A-10 over Nogova at low altitude and at high speed, or even during a regular specops mission. And this is with all the detail settings and preference settings on low. Turning down the detail settings only prolong the amount of time you can fly in the mission editor before it crashes. I know it isn't because my CPU sucks because I just built a new P4 2.4Ghz 800Mhz HT with 256megs DDR400 and an Nvidia GeForce4 TI4400. I have been to every troubleshooting werbsite and forum. It seems BIS is too busy inventing new ways of trying to defeat software pirates (FADE) to take care of their customers. I know that I am not the only one with this problem. I have been to countless forums and have seen lots of othe people complaining about this problem. This is driving me insane. I simply can't invest this much time just trying to make this stupid game work. The original OFP was awsome, but then you guys had to go screw it up with the resistance expansion. I think I'm gonna go buy BF1942 now...

    What keep's you playing ofp

You want to know what keeps me playing OFP? Â Well actually I cant play OFP because I am plagued with random crashes to desktop. Â I have spent the past 4 weeks installing, and reinstalling windows and OFP in an atempt to make it run for more than ten minutes. Â And I have failed. Â I have tweaked every setting in Windows, and my bios. Â I have disabled features, enabled features, reinstalled drivers nothing. Â So a better question would be to ask what keeps you FROM playing OFP. Â I'm sure you will get a lot more responses....

    Hunting the big ctd

I can guarantee a CTD in under 30 sec in OFP.  Go download the RAD F/A-18 Hornet pack, and fly one of these over Nogova in the mission editor at low altitude and high speed.  It works for me every time  . Oh and by the way I have yet to hear from BIS on this problem after sending them my specs over a week ago...

    Things to try out

After upgrading my motherboard CPU graphics card, and upgrading from Win2000 to WinXP, I was experiencing frequent crashes with OFPR V1.92BETA. After some experimenting, I was able to make OFPR somewhat playable again. The first thing to try is this: Right click on the OFPR executable file and select "properties". Next click on the tab that says "compatibility". Under the selection that says "Run this program in compatibilty mode for:" select Windows2000, and check the box. Second thing to try: In the OFPR preferences screen try changing between "Direct3D T&L" and regular "Direct3D". Third thing to try: Get ride of some of your addons and missions and campaigns that you dont play with very often. You can also break up your addons into mod folders ie. Vietnam mod, WWII mod etc. Fourth thing to try: Go into your user folder and get rid of some of your saved user missions, and game saves that you don't use very often. (My user folder was over 80megs!). Fifth thing to try: Uninstall OFPR and OFP completely. Back up your user profile, and addons. Reinstall just OFP (not Resistance). Play the original OFP for a while. Then Reinstall OFP Resistance and start moving only the really good addons that you absolutely must have. Sixth thing: Try increasing the size of your pagefile (About 2X physical memory). Try these out and let me know if any of this worked.

How to get a lag free flashpoint?

Yes I too fell victim to the Pentium Nvidia crowd. I see now how my roommates supposedly slower AMD Athalon with a Radeon card blows my 2.4Ghz P4 w/800mhz HT, and GeForce4 TI4400 out of the water. I spent way more money too. Also the only way to make OFP run fast is to turn Terrain detail to low and turn object, terrain and cockpit textures down to under 512X512. Also turn obj LOD down to halfway, and video setting to 600X800X32.

Yes I agree that you need to reinstall OFP after upgrading Windows, but even after fresh installs of OFP and OFPR I was still having frequent unexplained crashes to desktop. Â Also you should reinstall all the OFPR patches in correct order after reinstalling (1.91, then 1.92). Â Another weird thing that I found is that OFP1.92BETA doesn't require that the OFPR CD be in the drive! Â Although it seems to crash more frequently without the CD. Â Another thing that seemed to help was changing my DVD drive to secondary/slave, and my CDRW drive to primary/master. Â I'm not quite sure how this would have any effect. Â My CPU voodoo magic isn't quite that good yet... One more thing that seems to help a little is turning down Terrain Object, and cockpit texture level (256X256, 256X256, 512X512 on mine) and having terrain detail on low. Also turn down your viewdistance to under 2km, under 1.5km if you still have problems. I hope they fix the viewdistance problem in OFP 2. In real life a pilot wouldn't even think about flying a CAS mission with less than 2km visibility and no working ILS!

    Geforce fx 5600 problems

To fix the green screen problem try turning Hardware T&L on or off in OFP preferences.
