Y2K3 - Updated Ofp Config.
Unhappy customer replied to Pappy Boyington's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hey pappy is there anyway that I can send you the updated Everon and Kulgujev wrp files? Â If you really want to update the old CWC OFP then these improved islands are a must have. Is there anyway you can give me your e-mail or something in a private message so that I can send them to you? -
Here is my opinion on OFP2. I am quite satisfied with the graphics of the Resistance expansion. My biggest problem is the viewdistance. If OFP2 had graphics on par with OFP1 Resistance, but a 10km viewdistance, improved online gameplay, and less lag, then I would be the first one in line to buy it. I am really worried that BIS is going to focus ssooo much attention at making the graphics better looking than anything else on the market, that we are going to be stuck with the crappy 900m viewdistance, and once again aircraft in OFP2 will be just as useless as they are in OFP1. Most civilian pilots won't even fly in less than 5 km visibility, yet in the OFP enviornment, we are expected to make do with 900m visibility, and no navigational or landing aides... If OFP2 is going to have similar viewdistance limitations, then don't even bother making the fixed wing aircraft flyable. So here is my plea. Don't make the graphics sssoo stuning that we can't even play with a viewdistance over 2km without lag o death. I am perfectly happy with the Resistance graphics. I just want to be able to see where I'm going when I'm flying. Another thing that would be nice for us pilots, is if you could have a selection in the difficulty option to have simple or complex flight models. In real life attack choppers like the Apache and Cobra can fly upside down for short periods of time. I think the Apache airframe is stressed to handle 5 positive G's and 3 negative. In OFP1 inverted flight or even 90 degree banked turns are impossible with choppers. It would be cool if in OFP2, you could select simple OFP1 style flight controls if you're a noob pilot, or advanced flight controls if you know how to handle a chopper.

Graphics are fine....
Unhappy customer replied to Unhappy customer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Another suggestion would be to get some consulting from some real military guys about weapon capabilities, tactics etc. Â For example the silenced guns in OFP1 are totaly unreal. Â a standard silencer makes about 30-40 db sound reduction. Â So if your rifle makes 140 db unsilenced it's still 100 db when it does have a silencer. Â Thats still pretty loud. Â In other words I won't be able to hide in a bush and pick off guys 3 meters away without them being able to figure out where I'm hiding. Â Although people who are 100 meters away, or inside a building, probably won't hear a thing. -

Ok maybe 10k is too much. But at least 5k would be nice. If there were a way to optimize the program so that it could run faster than the current OFP then it might be possible to have a higher viewdistance with less lag. Oh to hell with it! I'll just go get a damn Athalon 64bit and a bigillion megs of RAM. Sorry. Is it a crime to be a cheap ass? -
My biggest problem at the moment is the crash to desktop when you try to load from a saved game because your mission or mod has too many scripts running at the same time (ECP in an example).

The HK M-4 isn't a clone. Â It's has a G-36 piston operating system in place of the original M-4 equitment. Â You have to remember that the M-16 is a 30 year old design. Â HK simply put their improved system into the M-4 platform. Also a ballott box will not keep your government "in check" your government decides to take the ballott box away. Â Of course this probably wont happen if your government knows that they will 10 million angry armed people show up on their doorstep.... Â Also keep in mind that when our (United States) forefathers created the US constitution, they had absolutely no idea whether or not it would work. I think that big concern was that an elected president would suddenly declare himself king of the USA. Â Although this probably isn't a concern in the modern US; you never know.... Also my thoughts on guns and crime. Â The police can't be everywhere at once. Â About all they can do is put someone in jail AFTER that person has shot you. Â Also if you live in a rural area, Police response isn't necessarily fast. Â I live in the city, and I personally don't own a gun. Â I have small children, and they could potentially hurt themselves. Â Certain store owners definately need guns. Â The idea here is to make robberies so hazardous to criminals that they are less likely to commit this crime. Â This is a big advantage of having an armed population. Â If criminals fear that any person they attack could shoot and kill them, then they may be convinced to take up a less violent occupation. Â Of course you "superior to everyone else ultra-liberal, quasi-commie europeans" would probably think of this as psycological torture to the poor innocent criminals.... Â (the lawyers have taken over your countries) And please keep in mind that common citizens aren't the enemy here. Â Why do we want to punish the good people for the crimes of the criminals? Â We want to take away the guns of the law abiding citizens, but let the criminals keep theirs? Â And why? Â So that the police can have job security? Â Of course you Europeans would probably say well common citizens aren't intelligent enough to know how to be responsible. Â Here in the USA we asume that people are intelligent enough to have certain rights and privledges. Â So while you europeans openly admit that you aren't smart enough to handle certain privledges, here in the US we are still enjoying the freedoms of a capitolist democratic society while it still lasts.... Sorry I am getting too political now... I will stop.

I don't blame the UK for not wanting to give up their national sovereignty so that they can be a member of a club that isn't looking out for the best interest of the UK at all, but demands that the UK contribute to the well being of the EU. This is exactly why we shouldn't let the UN run the world. The first UN (League of Nations) was a huge failure, and the UN was cloned from this failure. Now it too has become a currupt failure. Libya is a member of the UN human rights commity <-- laugh. Members of the UN took bribes from Saddam so that he could use funds from the "oil for food" program to build more palaces. And we want to all give up our national sovereignty, and let these crooks control everything? No. Our current system of regionalized countries working together for the interests of their own people works fine.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Â Anyway... About the XM-8.... The US Government has a nasty habit of spending millions (sometimes billions) of dollars created highly advanced weapons... and then cancels them right before they enter service (a good example is the Commanche scout chopper which was recently axed by the Pentagon). Â This is something to keep in mind before you concider including the XM-8 or the OICW. Â Also if the military does go with the XM-8 and/or OICW, word on the street is that these weapons may be rechambered for the new 6.8mm SPC in place of the weak 5.56mm that is currently in use. Â Barrett (makers of the famous M-82 .50cal sniper) is already making an M-4 carbine (officially named the M-468) that is chambered for the 6.8mm cartridge, and holds 25 rounds in a magazine. Â Now you may think that it is a disadvantage to have 25 rounds instead of 30, but keep in mind that even with body armour, the 6.8mm is expected to take a person down in 1-2 shots instead of 2-4 for the 5.56mm. FYI: another cool rifle Barrett is making is the XM-109 payload rifle. Â It is a modified M-82 that is rechambered from .50 cal to 25mm! Â It fires a 25mm anti-tank round... the purpose of this rifle is to quote "Engage and DESTROY ARMOURED TARGETS out to 2000 meters"..... I want one. Â Magazine is said to hold 5 rounds. Â Recoil supposedly is only slightly higher than a standard M-82 thanks to an improved muzzle brake. Â It should be able to penetrate/disable/destroy light armour such as a BMP. Â Also another new rifle which is entering service, the M-107, which is basically an improved M-82. Â Military is said to be buying the M-107 in place of the M-82. As for the updated Everon that I fixed.... All I need to do is get in contact with the original maker of this island, and ask his permission, then I will upload it to OFP CZ or OFPEC. Â Also I was thinking about updating Malden with resistance trees/bushes, but there just don't seem to be enough mediteranian style trees/bushes in Nogova to make an updated Malden work. Â Although I wonder if I could try adding some foliage from the Tonal island, or one of the Vietnam islands? Â I'll do some experimenting in my free time and get back to you guys.... Â I'm kind of busy so don't expect a new Malden anytime soon.... Also I don't think pilots should have Carbines or rifles. At the most small submachine guns like an MP-5 or UZI. Another idea is to make the choppers carry a rifle or carbine in cargo, so that if you do have to crash land, you can grab a rifle from the storage compartment of your wrecked bird. Does the Longbow Apache carry Stingers? I guess I'll go play with it and find out. -

Setting the viewdistance higher causes the game to run way too choppy. This is my complaint. That OFP2 should have a higher viewdistance without being way too choppy to even play. I didn't mean to be mean.... sorry. I am just fustrated with OFP's flight characteristics. -
The whole point of having high powered weapons available to civillian populations wasn't intended to promote crime. In fact most crimes are commited with small hand guns that are easy to conceal. It is not reasonable for a criminal to have a long assault rifle, it makes you stick out like a sore thumb in public. The whole point of an armed civillian population as created by the forefathers of the United States is actually a part of a system of "checks and ballances" to keep our government in line. Weapons give the people the power to overthrow the government if it abuses their power, and therefore ensures that government continues to work for the people and not against it. Crime is an unfortunate side effect and part of the cost of being free. Although if people would take responsibility to raise their children correctly, there would be very little crime in the first place.

I love the super config mod. I tried the old CWC campaign last night and it was like playing a whole new game.... the only problem is that I can't load from saved games... oh well I'm sure ECP will fix this problem soon. Keep up the good work! -

Unhappy customer replied to Pappy Boyington's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
In order to create one-hit-one kill helfires you either need to create a new hellfire addon (that is essentially the same as the BIS model only with altered settings) and replace the BIS Hellfires in the config, or add the new Hellfire addon into the updated apac.pbo file. Â If you know of anyone who makes addons, this shouldn't be difficult for them to do. Â There is no 3-d modeling or texturing involved just tweaking properties... Also about the guy who said just disable the ECP scripts to make the gamesave feature work... Doesn't that defeat the point of having an updated OFP with inhanced effects? I guess the only answer to this problem is to wait for the next ECP release, which is suppose to address these problems. Also I heard a rumor that the next ECP will have the improved night vision goggles that I have been begging for! -

Triumph: Â I'll tell you how I fixed the "updated" Everon. Â It took me about 1 hour. Â First I created 2 folders on my desktop, one titled updated, the other titled original. Â I copied the original eden.pbo (Everon) from the OFP CWC CD and put this in the folder titled original. Then I put the updated eden.pbo in the updated folder. Â Then I opened 2 WRPTool windows side by side. Â In one window I had the original Everon, in the other window I had the updated Everon (it gets kind of tricky to keep them straight). Â I compared the updated Everon to the original and removed extra trees and buildings that had been added. Â Especially important are the trees close to the main runway. Â After all the problems were removed, I saved it and copied the new file back to the OFP/Worlds folder. Â There maybe some more bugs that I haven't found yet, I will just have to play around with it some more. Also I love the new Longbow replacement. Â Does it have one-hit-one kill radar guided Hellfire 2 missiles instead of the crappy BIS Hellfires? Well if it doesn't I guess that is a mistake of the addon maker not you Pappy. -

Hey I just started playing the old Cold War Crisis campaign again.... I have a little problem though. Â Everytime I try to load a saved game, it crashes to desktop. Â I have experienced this problem before, I think it is because ECP has so many scripts running all at once, that OFP can't keep up with everything when you saved. Â I think that BIS was informed of this problem, but it probably won't be resolved anytime soon, because they would probably have to create a patch that would completely overhaul the way that OFP saves games.... Also I have another cool update that makes OFP more modern... Â a couple of months ago, I downloaded new Everon, and Kulgujev islands that have all the old low resolution vegitation replaced with the new Resistance style vegitation. Â It makes a world of difference in the way these islands look. Â However the guy who did the conversion didn't do a very good job. Â He added a ton of new vegitation and some new buildings that really screwed up some of the original missions. Â The worst problem was on Everon were the runway was blocked by tall trees, making takeoffs/landings very dangerous. Â Also there were trees in all the clearings that forced the AI chopper pilots to land several km from their landing zones. Â However I went in with WRPTool and removed all these problems, and know I am playing with the new updated Everon and Kulgujev. Â I would send these updated islands to you, but Everon alone is 7 megs. Â Way too big for me to E-mail, although I might be able to compress it. Â Let me know if your interested. Â All you do is replace the eden.wrp and cain.wrp files in the OFP/worlds folder with the updated files that you download -
Hey guys the whole point of the HK upper is to get rid of the M-4/M-16 reliability/jamming problems. You say why would HK waste their time on the M-4/M-16? The whole point is to make the M-4/M-16 a better gun. Basically it's like putting the G-36 inards in an M-4. The best part is that if you already have an M-4 you can upgrade to the HK upper for a lot cheaper than buying the whole G-36 rifle (I'm assuming...). Also I hope that they make a kit to convert the new Barrett M-468 M-4 derivative that is chambered in the new powerfull 6.8mm SPC (Special Purpose Cartridge). This would create the ideal special forces carbine. Also I hear that a version of the M-96 Recon rifle will be made in 6.8mm, although I personally don't know much about this rifle.... I think it has a piston operated system similar to the G-36... Also I'm not sure about all these new M-4 carbines that are chambered for .50 cal pistol cartridges....(NOT full size .50 cal rifle) 10 round magazine capacity just isn't enough for anything other than police and civilian apps. I still think it would be cool to have one chambered in .44 Magnum though.... And to those of you who say why on earth would someone create such an evil tool of death? I say welcome to reality buddy. There are bad people in this world and throwing flowers at them isn't going to solve anything. So what do you do with religious crazys (Muslim, Christian, Satanists I really don't care what their faith is...) who are so insane that they actually want to die in battle with you so that they can go to heaven? You send them on their way of course.... we have all the necessary tools and plenty of ammunition to facilitate their needs... So who are we to deny them of acheiving their goals? If you think about it, we're actually doing them a service....

Oh yay. And I really don't agree with arming the AA militia with the Stinger. Although you claim that Stingers are prolific on the Black Market, I don't think that this is the case in the modern world. The Stingers were only prolific after the Soviet-Afghan war where the Stingers were supplied to the Mudjahadeen by the CIA. However, that was over 20 years ago. Those missiles have long since passed their intended shelf life, and are probably useless. However I have heard of modern day terrorists attempting to aquire SA-16s from the Russian mafia, and I know that about a year ago, al Qaida terrorists tried to shoot down an Israeli airliner with SA-7s (SA-7s are Vietnam era, and are terribly inaccurate, less than 25% hit probability). But then again, if the rebel militia were being supplied by the US, it would make sense for them to carry Stingers..... -
Wargames addpak 4.0 released
Unhappy customer replied to AngusHeaf's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
You guys keep telling me that the rifles are zeroed for 300m instead of 100. However, like I said before, the M-21's scope is suppose to be "zeroed" on the go by zooming the scope in or out until the bottom notch on the crosshair lines up with the bottom of the target's feet, and the top notch on the crosshair lines up with the top of the target's head. This is suppose to automatically adjust the scope's zero for the appropriate range. Because WGL altered the bullet speed and drop property, without modifying the BIS zooming/ranging scope on the M-21, to fit these new bullet properties, there is a problem with the WGL M-21. All you have to do to see this for yourself is test it out in a mission. And all you have to do to fix it, is modify the settings of the M-21's scope to fit the new bullet properties. -

I had a new idea. You said that when you mess with the data.pbo file, it corrupts the Russian Strela. Well the old SA-9 is outdated anyway, I think it should be replaced by an SA-14 or SA-16. -

The WGL M-21 accuracy issue still hasn't been touched by anyone in the WGL mod to my knowledge. If you all want to know what I'm talking about, go into the mission editor place yourself anywhere on the map as a West / WGL spec ops / Ranger Sniper, and then place an enemy anywhere within rifle range, do mission preview, and try to shoot them with the WGL M-21. It shoots WAY high. You have to aim half a body length under a target just to hit them. It's rediculous -

Hhhhmmmm.... You might want to talk with someone from OFPEC or the WGL mod about messing with data.pbo files. Or you could just start a new thread on this forum about depbo-ing / repbo-ing data.pbo files, and see if anyone from BIS would be willing to give some input. -

I found another bug. The sports car, which is now Black Baron's Corvette, has no engine sound. Also if you want to see something funny, get the config with the exploding body effects, place a bunch of civillians on a road, and run them over with the corvette. And if you want see something even funnier, make a tight group of civillian people, and place 3 satchel charges even distributed amongst the group. You can probably figure out what comes next....
