I have not yet installed this mod (My computer sucks to be honest, I can only start up desert island reliably) , but I just noticed this post... Do you have an AS VAL in 1985? That would be quite a feat, considering the development of the VSS Vintorez started in 1987, and the AS VAL is based on the VSS... In 1985, they would use AKM/AKMS rifles fitted with PBS-1's.. Tbird was informed of this. He made the final decision. He had to go through a great deal of repackaging of .pbo's every time some detail would turn up in my research. Initially, the VSS Vintorez seemed like the most suitable choice (I've been deadset against the Bizon in an '80's campaign since its creation in OFP) to fill that role of silenced primary, but more research revealed that silenced AK's were used by Spetsnaz at that time. Seems that the Soviets may have been a bit ahead of NATO in the use of silenced assault rifles, because I don't remember anything but silenced submachineguns being in vogue, back in the mid-80's. (The reasoning being that sound-moderating a super-sonic round was pointless.)

What OFP are you talking about? 1.46? Â They were a lot better in 1.96 than they were in the days of old... try it out yourself, set up 3 or so soldiers, and have them go towards an enemy machine gunner. Try this in vanilla 1.96, and then with F.F.U.R. You'll notice a HUGE change YOU try it out. Desert Island. Put East mgunners facing West mgunners with an officer for each group. Night time. Place yourself on the "sideline" to observe how high the tracers are flying. Separate them by a mere 100 - 300 meters. You can even place vehicles. They will fire most of their rounds a good 5 meters above the vehicle's roof at about 200 meters. (I'm going off memory from a v1.96 test.) The problem seems to be that lots of the rounds leave the barrel at the top of the recoil "arc". If the mgunners behaved the way they were supposed to the game would be a lot more difficult than it is, apparently. Probably too difficult for most players. And I've been playing this game since pre-v1.00. I tried to make a convoy ambush mission back then and I haven't seen any significant improvement in the mgunners since reporting the problem. (The mission was an utter failure because the mgunner fired most of the rounds over the vehicles, instead of riddling the crap out of the convoy.) As I remember, the early M60 actually had less recoil than it does now. You could actually use the iron sight to aim at the enemy. Now the sight picture bounces so much that all you can do is draw a vertical line with the front sight post up through the target, hoping that one of your rounds will connect. It's still useful for engaging soft-skinned vehicles, but because the A.I. can't be suppressed, only made to go prone, where they are MORE (not less) effective, the result is that the M60 is fairly useless and there for cosmetics, 'cause it sure ain't accurate enough for engaging individual infantry. Most people who have never fired an M60 won't notice these issues.

I had this problem playing Retaliation with the ECP v1.085 mod, I believe.

I'll take out the pistols from machine gunners and will increase a bit their accuracy. Machinegunners suck in default OFP. Try it out, sometime. It looks like 1 out of 10 rounds flies towards the target. And no soldier should have pistols but an Officer, a Pilot, a Political Officer, an MP, or a Spec Ops. (Off the top of my head.)

My first-impressions of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat: Silenced submachineguns firing tracers that look like out-bound lightbulbs through the scope? What's with the controls? Using two buttons for the changing of posture? The white button for reloading? What was wrong with adapting the common Halo and Rainbow Six control schemes? Lock-ups galore. You can't host your own games or run a dedicated server? All games are hosted by EA and you can only connect as a client? Reminds me of Delta Force: Landwarrior or Delta Force: Xtreme. Have fun trying to navigate your way through buildings. First-person perspective is zoomed-in worse than OFP's when looking through iron sights view. Complete chaos. You're constantly getting shot by hostiles you can't see. Medals constantly blocking your view if you're getting kills. No competition for OFP:E in the serious tac-simming community. The mindless hordes might love it, though, if they can do something about the frequent lock-ups.
-
It might be the second game I return. Seriously, I'd rather watch videos of Placebo playing OFP:E than play this crap.

Hellfish, read the description to the Off-Topic forum, will ya? "For discussions not strictly related to Operation Flashpoint. Topics should still be related in some way, for example: military, politics, science and other military games." So why did you lock (sorry, not "delete") my WW2OL thread and act like it was out-of-place? Either change the Off-Topic forum description or admit that you're power-crazed.
-
OMG, watch out that Hellfish doesn't lock this thread because it isn't about OFP!

Sapping French Tanks in World War II Online: the places where you had better set us up the bomb... Where to Place the Satchel to Make the Frog Tank Brew

Looks like it is back to the World War II Online forums, where the community is even older and more knowledgeable, the men and the women don't feel the need to pretend that they are in the company of kindergarteners and celibates, and everyone isn't trying to become a deputy moderator.

I wanna know when the bikini model version of Jennifer comes out, so that she can sun herself on one of these speedboat addons. Making a mercenary's pay, she must take some vacations along the French Riviera or around the Cayman Islands...

It's October the 20th. Do you know where your Mercs are?

FFUR Incoming HUGE RELEASE !!!
Uziyahu--IDF replied to Thunderbird's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Personally, I liked the 1985 packs better, but I recognize that most prefer more up-to-date stuff. Combat feels very different in the Woodland and Winter packs. I like it better than default OFP. I don't remember if I tested the Desert pack, or not. The Asian Pack should be interesting. I'll be learning whole new sets of vehicles. -
I'm sure he was addressing the question to those who do know. If the devs don't know...

Not responding to anyone in particular, but camo patterns that work during the day are usually the best patterns for night-time use. Â You're only talking about a reduction in the light level. Â A faerie doesn't descend from the sky and paint all objects black. Excellent work, nephilim.

Where is this great village where so many young people love OFP? I must take a vacation there! -
I agree. It is far more important that they work to make an already great engine greater, but Game Previewers expect new content...

Looking at Nephilim's mercenaries, soon to be released, I was wondering if anyone has made a comic book that uses textured 3-D models that are merely positioned and posed for each frame? Seems like it would be a good way to save yourself a lot of work. The engine would take care of the lighting and special effects. If no one has done this, someone should. I would definitely read a graphic novel that used models of the quality of Nephilim's and had top-notch special effects, as long as it had a good story. Gun nuts would love something like that. (Remember the old Mac Bolan novels?) Does a character need a different weapon? Just slap a pre-made weapon in the same character model's hands.

I can beta-test, but that's all. (no real skills)

The concept of urban camo is pretty ridiculous, since buildings tend to have different paint schemes, brickwork, etc. The best "urban camo" is the fashion of the common man in the city. Â It allows you to blend in with the people, since you can forget about blending in with the buildings. The urban MARPAT probably hasn't been adopted because it simply doesn't work. The new Desert Marine pattern, as busy as it appears to be, seems to work very well in Iraq. It seems to have proven itself.

Mi-8 pack - work in progress
Uziyahu--IDF replied to DPS -CCCP-'s topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Gorgeous work. What ARE the differences between the Mi-8 and the Mi-17, anyway? -
I'd like to see new explosions and cook-offs that look and sound like this at night: Ammo Dump Attack in Iraq (15 Megs) (Available in 2.5 minutes from the time of this posting) Notice how the sparks rain down from above? (WARNING! Strong Soldierly Language, As Would Be Expected!

This STILL hasn't come out? C'mon! I want this beautiful Hind in-game! What happened?
