    Complexity Arma's greatest advantage?

The physics could be made a lot more complex. In the recent NAPA video, the explosion looked a tad sorry when the concussion failed to rip the sheet metal roof off of the warehouse and send it flying into the air. (The upwards concussion is usually the strongest in any explosion, because the air is thinner as you go higher, so up is the path of least resistance for the pressure.)

ArmA2 factions: What's the NAPA faction?

The walking animation of the policemen is cool! They have a sort of bad-ass, older guy swagger. I think the sped-up security footage shows how "perfectly" ArmA A.I. draws its paths. Perfect curves, always stopping right at the certain spot. Humans move a little more chaotically in their pathways. For examples, they'll move around obstacles in order to get line-of-sight on another person to increase their chances of being understood when they talk to them. A human may begin carrying a box to one place, but be told while en route that it belongs on another shelf. He may walk towards the shelf with it for a while, then set it down and take another look at the shelf, backing up, then walk forward, pick up the box again, and then shelf it.

    Console vs PC

Oh man... I really hope they release the 360 version before it reaches the end of its lifecycle. I really don't want to see another popularity-killing release right as Microsoft releases a new console.

    Truly Realistic Sound

There are so many good sound effects that could be ripped from videos on YouTube. Homemade sound effects just don't cut the mustard. You aim for photorealistic textures? How about videorealistic sounds?
  5. It would be great if the play-speed of animations could be adjusted, so that soldiers would have slight variety in their running speed. (Speed of sprint animation would need to be adjusted slightly to match slightly adjusted running speed.) Of course, this could be used for aiming animation (commandos aiming more quickly than support troops?).

    Adjustable Play-Speed of Animations

And also the height of ...err...jumping. Sorry, don't know what I was thinking.

    TALIBAN! TALIBAN! TALIBAN!!!

Looks just like the spudguns on YouTube. Â Can you make a version that fires potatoes? Like the trainers on the Talib with the launcher.
  8. The thing that seems missing to me is the shadow from the helmets, but I thought someone said that those are yet to be added.

first person view /head wobble in latest trailer

We shall see. I can see Dslyxci doing something like that to help make a good video. Did you guys forget his "300" video, already?

    Gamey & Realistic Modes

I think that it might be a good idea to have Gamey and Realistic modes in the 360 version. Arcadey/Gamey would be for those who want a lot less realism and a lot more "fun". It would include very forgiving physics for vehicles, allowing them to bounce off of other vehicles and obstacles without sustaining much damage. It might take more bullets to kill someone. Realism mode would be for the hardcore fans. With two modes, lots of players could be brought into the franchise with Gamey mode, and then if they wanted more of a challenge, they could switch to Realism games.

One of OFP2's mistakes is that the spine of the soldier-player seems to be very stiff, resulting in a very abrupt up-down head-bob. It is my understanding that the human spine and legs act as a spring/shock-absorber to smooth out the shock of each planted foot. Also, OFP2's head-bob assumes that the eye is always looking outwards with a "thousand-yard stare". Humans don't do that. They look at something, often shifting their focus from one thing to another. What they are looking at is made to stay in the center of "the screen" with natural image stabilization, as it were. All of the movement happens in the periphery. How to train the game to know what you are looking at? Well, it could assume that whatever is in your cross-hairs is what you are looking at.

    XboX 360 Version

I believe Gamespot is listing it as coming to the 360. http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360....title;0

ArmA II too Good to believe!

I don't know where you live TheRedDog, but we in America had at least 14-player lagless games in OFP:Elite, even with the pleasing graphics. I expect to be able to do the same in the graphically stunning ArmA II on XBL. I suspect that those 4 - 6 player games are part of an industry trend (like the retarded "OMG! It has 2-player COOP! Permit me to wet myself!", then "OMG! This game has 4, count them, *4*-player coop!") or a Microsoft requirement, because they sure don't make sense, EVEN when your game is graphically top-of-the-line. I'll just be happy if I can enjoy ArmA II's graphics on the 360 with at least 12 player games. This 2-player coop is for gamers looking for someone to shower with.
  14. Someone on the WW2OL forum was admiring that pattern. Someone else informed him that it was called "Partisan Camo"?

A Quick Fix For Extra Immersion

I've been asking for this for ages. It should be something like "burrrst........burrrrrrrrst...burst..............burrrrrrrrrrrrst...burst.burst...&q uot;, etc. And for shoulder-mounted rockets, too. Currently, if an A.I. soldier has a vehicle targeted, he will launch the rocket the very instant he gets it reloaded. (This gets extremely frustrating in tank missions Vs. enemy infantry.) Sorry, but we humans need time to figure out range, choose a spot on the vehicle to aim at, calculate lead for a moving vehicle, etc.

    Trails

Yeah, that is badly needed. Soldiers would normally prefer to be ordered on a forced-march on a road than through a swamp.

    Gamey & Realistic Modes

*MY* attitude? I'm the one playing their ADVOCATE. Most gamers, children or not, don't want to die in one shot. They don't want their car to die if they tap a tree. If that happens to them a few times, they will drop the game like a hot coal. Me? I play World War II Online, so there's no question about whether I can hack it or not. Did you ever try to find a good game when the children had infected OFP:Elite's multiplayer with "Life"? Were you there? Did you see it with your own eyes? I doubt it. "Unfair" amount of work from the developers? You act like they won't be compensated for catering to the mainstream in some fashion! The choice is, of course, THEIRS (not the community's). The community won't be getting paid for B.I.'s work, so it is up to them to decide whether they want to allow an option that will get them more sales. It's no skin off my nose if they don't. And I didn't say anything about simplified controls. How do you get more simple than a game controller?

first person view /head wobble in latest trailer

Yeah, I suspect it was done using TrackIR. For me, videos of TrackIR "head wobble" makes everything look much more 3-dimensional, even without 3-D glasses or a monitor. For example, when I first saw TrackIR used with the Biplane... It made the cockpit look 100% real. And it must be so cool to be able to look over the sides. Landing a Littlebird on a roof appears so much easier when you can lean out the door and look down at one of your skids. You've come to the right place, Sandmeister. Welcome home.
  19. The tank main-gun shot smoke now stays in the place where it was fired! It always used to travel with the vehicle as it motored along. Looks good, now!

    Truly Realistic Sound

I'd like to see a number of randomly-determined sounds for ricocheted bullets as they fly by the ear. I would also like to see the sonic crack played ONLY for the player, not for every bullet that does a fly-by on any soldier's ear. Randomly-chosen sonic cracks would be nice, too. The same file played every time isn't so hot. Also bullet fly-bys that don't crack.

    Gamey & Realistic Modes

Wow, I'm listening to the same bunch of killjoys that were on AndOne's ColdWar forum before the very first OFP1 demo was released. If you can't see the benefits of catering to a whole sector of gamers through simple code-tweaks which can be TOGGLED (an OPTION!, then you DESERVE to see the growing lack of realistic games in the industry. Browsed gametrailers.com or read GameInformer, lately? Â Nothing but kiddy crap! Â If you can't learn to be inclusive, it will only get worse. Yeah, shrug off the desires of the mainstream and see how much money there is to be made from the simmer's niche. Blind. By the way, you will notice that this thread's subtitle says "...for the 360". If you played OFP:Elite, you might remember how CHILDREN took over the game late in its popularity, playing a stupid game called "Life". Either cater to the children or they have the power to invade your game with their own silliness.

    Largely Mod-able AI

Simply have a toggle-switch in the addon that says "override hard-coded A.I.". Then the game can look to the addon for all instruction or let the A.I. stand there like statues.

    Vehicle Antenna

And let the antenna contact a low-hanging power line. Then the fun REALLY begins!

ArmA II too Good to believe!

The seamless multiplayer integration of X-Box Live beats PC multiplayer gaming BIG-TIME. No dicking around with each buddy's favorite 3rd-party instant messenger, voice comm program, or buddy list organizer. No screwing around with IP addresses. It just works, right out of the DVD case. It also makes for an unbelievable team-based experience. And somehow, I don't know how they did it, B.I. managed to make aiming in OFP:Elite as easy as with mouse and keyboard. I had BIG concerns about that before I played it.

    Safwan

Looks really sweet, so far. Would love to have some serious tank battles on that map!
