  1. Wow! Very impressive! Will you allow other map makers to use your buildings for other projects?

Yeah definately, It'd be awesome to see lots of urban islands.

To Sgt. Stryker: That crime scene idea sounds really cool. I'll definately look into that. I'll make dumpters and piles of trash too, all good ideas. smile_o.gif

  2. Yeah I looked at it, to have the maps show the buildings. I never noticed anything about the icons, since i wasn't looking for that when I looked through it.

I have a different question though: how can I control the colors of the buildings on the map? It seems they are randomized, since some are blue, some are red, some are gray, etc.

  3. )rStrangelove @ Mar. 12 2004,12:59)]A little shop would be cool where mission editors are able to choose from different bmps for the front sign. (gun shop, security service, used goods, kiosk etc)

Lookin forward to your island, m8 - this could be awesome for Cops & Robbers missions !

I don't think that's really necessary since there will be those kinds of stores anyways, but I'll see what I can do. (Later though ;) )

Anyways, does anyone know how to put sounds on the map? Say I wanted to have a crowd ambience for the Chinatown, or a looping music ambience for a night club or somethign along those lines. BAS had it in the form of objects with sounds on Tonal, but I have no idea how to do that.

Second, how can I make buildings placed through WRP editors have custom icons? I want to have a gun symbol for guns stores, and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure it can be done because gas stations and hospitals have that feature on BIS maps.

Also, what kind of districts or buildings would you guys want to see next? Any more suggestions for Chinatown? I've added boxes but I had to keep it a bit spaced out because AI had trouble walking through it when it was crowded.

  4. Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Those pics are cool but theres not much in them that I can use for textures. Anyways I'm still adding plenty of objects to Chinatown, it's not nearly finished. As for lag, I'm sure it won't lag a lot since the island isn't too large, and the buildings are very low poly (the showroom is just ~120 polys, and it's the only enterable buildings so far). Tonal is more detailed and is quite a large island, plus it has TONS of vegetation and probably over 120000 objects. Mine just has less than 2000 so far, and htat includes all of the roads, sidewalks, trees, fences, etc.

  5. Well recently I've worked on it again, and I've got a portion of China town done. If you guys are wondering why I made a Chinatown for a Florida based island, well maybe it isn't Florida based anymore. Since it's fictional it's going to  be sort of a Miami - Los Angeles cross, since I really wanted to do a Chinatown area. Anyway, here's the pic:

    Chinatown

Not pictured are the small stalls and details, I didn't feel like making many pics. Again, some of the textures are from GTA3, since I couldnt find any good pics of Chinatown stores or banners. Either way I think it captures the feel of a crowded Chinatown market nicely. smile_o.gif

Besides China town, there are also a few small things done, mainly details and lots of stores.

  6. Last weekend I had some problems with my video card (the settings were changed, possibly by a hacker), and then after I got a friend to fix it, I had some serious problems. The computer would freeze always, either in the windows startup screen (when windows is loading), or if I got in, if I went on the internet while listening to music or other things like that. It was suggested to me it might be a hardware conflict, but how could I check for something like that? Also, I fixed the frequent freezing, but now it still freezes, again when I was listening to music while using the internet. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this stuff?

  7. Those look really great, i'm lovin it!  tounge_o.gif On the cop and the businessman, especially the latter, the collar looks more like a neck brace as it extends over where the tie should be, can you cut that part out to make it look more realistic?

I would do that, but remember that I'm retexturing the BIS resistance models, so I can't access them in O2. sad_o.gif I would've made a model from scratch but it's really difficult making character models.

  8. Heres some pics of some of the stuff I've done recently:

    McDonalds

    Junkyard

    Biker

    Business Man

    Cop

All of the buildings I modelled and textured myself (except the windows on the Mcdonalds, thats a Vice City texture), and the Biker, Business man, and cop are retextures of BIS models. The cop is using textures from Max Payne 2 and the other characters I textured and made textures myself.  smile_o.gif

I'm hoping the pics will work, if they don't, can someone host them for me?

  9. Ok some quick questions:

What environment do you guys prefer - a New York style place (more gritty environment, like Max Payne) or a Florida style place (nicer looking buildings and environment, more tropical, beaches, etc)?

How many bridges should there be? Right now there are two separate islands, with one bridge connecting them.

Should I make thicker "double roads" to simulate a 4 lane roads? Right now the AI does have some problems navigating the streets, and I think that they would have a problem using a double road.

Right now I've done the basic shape of the island, with textures and roads done. I've done a bit of the large dock and some industrial buildings. The main problem is going to be with AI navigation through the streets, and making enough buildings so it doesn't seem repetitive.

  10. Don't worry Agent Smith, I'm only going to use roughly 20-30 of your buildings (including all the docks and powerplants and other buildings), plus most of them are only 150-300 polys. Most of the buildings are going to be made by me. To @cero, there is a river going down the middle of it with 2 bridges crossing it. smile_o.gif

  11. Well I haven't been playing OFP for a long time now, but recently I felt like making a city island for some reason. It's gonna be kind of like vice city (no surrounding areas, just the city), and with crowded downtown areas and stuff. I've already done some of it, like textures and the shape of the island, plus the port, some buildings, and the roads. So far what I've done is the most I can do without any newly made addons, since the setting is either going to be Florida or a New York style place (still to decide). I've used all of Agent Smith's building addons but for variety a lot of new ones will have to be made.  It's the 12.8 X 12.8 size, which is pretty small, but enough. Basically what you guys can do is give me some ideas for new buildings, locations, etc. I'd post some screens but I don't have a host.  smile_o.gif

List of buildings and objects to be included:

    -Restaurants

    -Grocery store plaza

    -Police station

-lots of new apartments and skyscrapers

-New airport buildings (terminal, multi-story carpark)

-phone booths, mailboxes, bus stops, and other small city objects

    -New hospital

    -New gas station

    -some kind of sports stadium

    -gun store

    -convenience store

    -bank

I'd appreciate any suggestions and additions to the list, and also I would be extremely grateful to any help to the project.
