  1. Well I've redesigned the warehouse to look more like the one from the game "the Getaway", and I made some office buildings for the China town place to give the side of the island a better skyline. But these things aren't 100% complete so I won't put any screens just yet.


  2. I downloaded a file with a .tar extension, and no program can open it. I know tar files can be opened with winzip or winrar normally, but this one doesnt. Are there any programs specifically for this file format? rock.gif

    Yeah but if it was that messed up why would I use it now? rock.gif I prefer making my own things plus anyways I will be making one since they aren't that hard to do.

    Skyline of what I've done so far

    All of the things I've been working on so far since the last post. The Apartment (that has the one enterable room shown) isn't that high poly (just 300), and the warehouse is 500 polys. But since their used only once each that's not a lot of polys. In the pic of the skyline I was running it at 1028X768 with 3000 viewdistance (just for a test), and cars in the parking lots, and I had zero lag, on my pretty outdated machine. So I doubt almost anyone will get any lag on the final product since probably 90% of you have machines probably twice the speed of mine. smile_o.gif


  5. Hmm I doubt, to lower their polys would mean to change their complete structure and layout. sad_o.gif I'd be better off making them myself, and I guarantee I won't do a bad job at it. tounge_o.gif

    However, does anyone know how to put BIS furniture (TVs, beds, etc) into a building? I noticed a lot of addons use them but I have no idea how to use them myself (even with the help of odol explorer). I used odol explorer to take some BIS objects such as a tv set and some drawers from the BAS objects pbo, but I still need a bed and things like that. rock.gif


  6. ditch the radar and keep the terminal. at least use the terminal! please!!!  sad_o.gif  oh and the control tower. besides the airport isnt gonna have that many things around it anyway. mabe 1 or 2 hangers. a couple BIS res hangers other then that its one huge wide open space. its not like your puttin in 5 of them side by side. consider the terminal and control tower at least

    The terminals has even more polys than the radar, unfortunately. I would definately use them if they were a bit less high poly.

    Anyways, I really appreciate the attention to this project, its great working on something people want. smile_o.gif


  7. Hey all, I've been checking out the mapfact airport buildings in the odol view program, and IMO they are way to high poly for this map. The radar by itself is more than 1000 polys, so unfortunately I'll have to make some airport buildings myself. sad_o.gif I was hoping on using the mapfact ones since they truly are amazing.

    Anyways I've been doing some slum type buildings for the red light district area, and it's going along great, if anyone remembers the buildings at the end of the movie Taxi Driver, or Max Payne's house in Max Payne 2, thats kind of what the buildings are going to look like. smile_o.gif

Amazing tool, I'm sure a ton of work went into it. smile_o.gif I'm also certain that it will probably not be used for a lot of theft (if not any at all), and instead it will allow people to learn how things are done in some addons. Great breakthrough in the addon making community. smile_o.gif

I want to replace the safe walking and standing anim (the one where the soldier holdsthe strap from the rifle) with the unarmed walking and standing ones, so when a character has a pistol only it doesnt look like they are holding a strap. Does anyone know what are the names of the anims for safe walking, standing and strafing, backwards, etc, and the unarmed versions of those movements? rock.gif


  10. Anyways, heres what I'm planning:

    -an Italian district, with a restaurant and a laundrette as the enterable buildings

    -One enterable warehouse

    -An enterable bar

    -The side of the island I'm working on won't have a downtown style area but will have a few office buildings.

    -I'll release the island as a beta once half is done (the side I'm working on), and then the final will be released when I'm completely done.

    -The side of the island I'm working on has/will have: airport, docks, Chinatown district, Italian district, "ghetto" style area, maybe a red light district, an industrial district, a mall, and a residential district with suburban style houses.

    -The side I'm working on now is more like Los Angeles while the other side will be more like Miami, but the themes sort of overlap to not make it look too different.

    -A character pack will also be released.

    Anyways, how about some Pantera? Cowboys From Hell is really cool and a ton of other songs too.  smile_o.gif Lol just take bands whose guitarists look like bikers, like Black Label Society or Pantera or Motorhead.


  12. I have a question, is there any way to permanatly incorporate a face into an addon without opening the model? Like replacing the face texture or something? It would be really cool if that was possible because then I can make some Heat type bank robbers in the suits and ski masks.  smile_o.gif


  13. I haven't done almost any progress on the island since I'm back at school, but I have done some characters, and added some apartments and stuff like that. I'll work on it as much as I can, but I doubt I'll get too much done. Again, what districts would you guys want to see next?

Excellent I've succeeded in pimping out my island in this thread too. tounge_o.gif Lol just kidding, but any questions related to the island are probably already answered in the thread. smile_o.gif About the civs, the ones in the bulls jersey are BIS ones and the other ones are BAS civs, I just hope I get permission to use them. smile_o.gif

    Would you be so kind to place all the objects and wrp file in separate pbos. I think, if you do it this way, more mapmakers will be willing to use your objects on their maps (if you don't mind that, of course?).

    It's already like that, since I started on the objects before I started the map. smile_o.gif

    About the gamelogic idea, thats really smart, I'll find out how that's done and I'll most probably make it like that. smile_o.gif


  16. Again I probably won't have ambient sounds such as police sirens and car horns, but I will have things like music when you go near apartments, ambient plane fly bys (the quiet rumble when a jumbo jet flies above you), and other things that just add to the atmosphere of the map.
