    U.s. army special forces

When I refer to kevlar I mean only the helmet. It's what we call it, except now we have the new MICH which is smaller, lighter, has great padding and a better chin strap. Yes I am in an SF unit. 5th Bn, 19th SFG(A). We do wear the body armor, the new stuff is worlds better than the old flak jacket. With the trauma plates in, it will actually stop a 7.62 x 39 RSR.

    Barrett M468.

hmm, well obviously it uses the Eugene Stoner rotating locking lug and forced gas blowback operation. (AR series rifles). Just looks like a souped up M-16 to me.

    Jean christophe's normandy island

This island has a really great feel. The terrain and landscaping is unique. The geographic accuracy can be overlooked, however I'd like to see the beaches built up a bit more since building them up in the editor tends to lag my computer severely during play. Oh and coastal artillery blockhouses!

    1. U.S. Army Special Forces do not wear their berets in the field anymore. 2. We do not wear kevlar, except to jump and for MOUT operations.

    VIP awards

I don't want to sound like an ass, but I was a little hurt last year when I didn't get VIP status. I've been a faithful poster for a long time and have always brought you entertaining topics. Anyone remember my therapy thread? R.I.P.

    The world and adhd

I feel bad for you man it must be hard. Keep your chin up though. My problem is that perhaps I am the opposite. A little too focused and detail oriented. I'm over-analytical and it keeps me up at night.

    Who´s going to win ?

I'm a Republican and I like Bush. I will vote for him and he will win. There is no way Howard Dean could pull the center of the electorate, he's too liberal. Despite a stong showing in Iowa I don't think Kerry has a chance at beating Dean in the primaries. Hardlining wins primaries, pulling the swing voters wins general elections. Dean is extreme enough to beat any other Dem in the primaries, but not diplomatic enough to attract independents and liberal Republicans. (essential since the GOP is a larger party, Dems usually receive a large percentage of votes from the ignorant and undecided) Of course out of all the Dem candidates, the one that gives me the creeps has to be the strongest. I'd probably even vote for Wesley Clark if he ran indep. and wasn't running against Bush. The idea of voting for a Democrat president is just entirely too distasteful to me.:p

Ofp nearing an end for me

$100,000 is peanuts? Uhhh...sorry but if you are pulling in 100k a year you are in the top 10% of income earners on earth AT LEAST. THe average American makes about $30,000-$50,000 a year. My parents rake in just around $600,000, yes I do mean 600k a year but they don't really help much considering their income. They want me to make my own way.

Germany to drop conscription by 2008

Here in the U.S. MOS job choices are based on your score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, visual accuity, color blinedness, and your ability to hold a security clearance. (Like being a foreign national, having a criminal record, or having severe debt problems.) Dumbasses are generally restricted to infantry and cavalry. I qualified for all but 1 MOS in the Army, and that was because it required the maximum score on the ASVAB of 99, I got a 98. Not like I wanted to be a nuclear ordnance specialist anyway. Officers get branch choice based on several things. Ring knockers get top choice. (a.k.a. Westpoint Mafia) Not sure if officer branchings are based on ASVAB results. Not like someone with a college degree is going to score below 80 anyway. OCS candidates are branched according to class rank in OCS. ROTC cadets are branched by their grades received in college, major, and by performance in the ROTC program.

Banning guns won't fix anything. It's to ingrained in U.S. culture. It would likely trigger a civil war. Canada has just as many guns per capita and not nearly the gun crime. If you ban guns then only the people who aren't supposed to have them will have them, like the U.K. I personally like guns. I like shooting, and I like collecting them. My guns aren't for protection, theyare for m enjoyment. Banning them will only take them away from people like me. Not like a criminal is going to turn in his irons because of some words on some paper.

Personally I think the plan for going to Mars and colonizing the moon is assenine. I'm a Republican and a Bush supporter but I think it's severly a waste of time. It will continue to be until and if humanity makes a breakthrough in the speed of space travel. THe lack of organic matter and the absence of tectonic activity pretty much rules out any reason to go to the rock planets. (No tectonic activity means that mineral veins do not form like on earth.) Aside from mining I can't see any reason to colonize an inhospitable rock. The U.S. needs to spend this money on the education system instead.

Blame the media, blame video games, blame white middle class gun owners, blame guns themselves, banning guns won't fix it. Then kids would just poison each other or beat each other's heads in with pipes. Gun are tools. I think the underlying problem is that American parents no longer PARENT their children adequately. Maybe this is becoming a worldwide issue now. Of course children are going to be messed up if you let Eminem and Madonna raise your kids.

Germany to drop conscription by 2008

So it's like a permanent draft. Vietnam era draft was about the same. You had to serve one combat tour of one year plus training. WWII was a bit different. Tour of Duty length was based upon hazard. I believe the average grunt was obligated to a one year combat tour. Whereas AAC bomber pilots were obligated to 25 missions. etc..etc. Now the U.S. military is completely voluntary with college benefits and travel being their primary attractions for joining. Enlistment periods can be a minimum of two years and up to six years (In the National Guard anyway, not sure about the Reg Army.) After an enlistment period you can re-enlist which usually includes benefits like schools that are hard to get for your MOS (like airborne, air assault etc...for all of the REMF desk jockies) a cash bonus, choice of duty station, or even a promotion.

    Coc unified artillery 1.0 released

Someone already made a working scud add-on. It was actually pretty good including a nose camera view so you got to see the poor bastards before they got vaporized. The only real flaw to it was that an intact scud body was left on the ground after impact.

Ofp nearing an end for me

Hmph, what does college have to do with OFP? I'm in college, a fraternity, the army, and I have a job and still have time to play. I don't pay a dime to go to college. The army pays my tuition (about $2000 a semester) and I take out low interest federal Stafford loans to help with living and other expenses (about $3000 a semester) I work to pretty much pay for my car. On top of that I get payed about $200 a month for one weeked dril for the Army. Plus I take education tax credits on my income tax return and get most of my money back (about $500-$1000 a year). Denoir you said 80k Euros is modest? How much is that in USD? Here in the U.S. college tuition can vary greatly. If you go to a college in your state of residence you pay much less than an out of stater. I pay about $4000 a year to go to Colorado State University while a non-resident would pay about $12,000 a year. Exclusive universities can run up to $80k to $100k a year. (Like MIT) Figures do not include room and board. All together one year of college for me runs right around $12,000-$15,000.

Germany to drop conscription by 2008

I'm not entirely clear on the idea of conscription. Denoir tried to explain it once and it really confused me...something about officers and conscripts. Here in the U.S. military service is not compulsory unless a draft is instated. Enlisted men are considered vocational, generally they have little more than highschool educations (except in intelligence and special operations) and make less than officers. Enlisted men are technically GI's while officers are not, in that enlisted men are provided meals, uniforms, etc by the gov't. Officers are commisioned by the President and confirmed by Congress. They have to buy their own uniforms and meals although they do receive hefty allowances for such thing so I guess it really isn't any skin off their noses. When an enlisted man becomes an NCO he competes for jobs with the rest of the NCO corps by the ratings he receives on his NCOER's. These days if there is a surplus of officers the military merely creates new positions to but them in which is creating a bureaucratic nightmare. Last there are officers by warrant who are drawn from the NCO and enlisted ranks based on a technical proficiency. While commisioned officers tend to be trained and generalists, WO's are specialists usually in comms, SF, and aviation. Sooo if Germany is getting rid of conscription does that just mean they are going to 100% voluntary service?

Have you guys though about making a tactical nuclear artillery round? I was just curious since the CoC Shkval nuclear torpedo knocked my socks off. I would like to see that explosion implemented into to Unified Artillery as well as perhaps some bomb variants.
