Experienced scripter needed!
USSoldier11B replied to Aculaud's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Most of the arty scripts I've seen, I didn't like. I agree the volume of fire is unrealistic. The scripts that utilize tanks look good although the angle of incidence on the rounds is wat too acute, if you've seen a real barrage, which i have, both mortars and arty. The problem is that they fire until exhaustion, which takes too long. I saw one that allows you to actually bracket with spotting rounds and fire for effect, but it was too complicated to use, and wouldn't be very good if under fire. Since I'm no guru, all I can do is wait and hope for someone to make actual artillery pieces. Self propelled 105's would be nice. -
Where do i get working artillery?
USSoldier11B replied to Aculaud's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I downloaded the Gunslinger's addon, and it has artillery pieces in it, but they are inert. -
I made a pretty good large scale airborne mission. Involves a primary squad, which is lead by the player, and several AI squads which jump out of multiple UH-60's. It's an airfield siezure mission. Still polishing it, should be done soon. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Great idea, after watching a couple of para docus recently I was thinking how cool it would be to have a quite large parachute drop <span id='postcolor'> How about that?

that would make for some big ass artillery rounds. Maybe to simulate naval gunfire. (will take out a whole grid sqaure) We don't have anything that big that is ground based, except for maybe a rail gun. I would personally like to see MLRS, heard some rumors about it and seen some screen shots of a good looking vehicle. -

Anyone know if its possible to limit helicopter...
USSoldier11B replied to Aculaud's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
You're in luck! This is very easy to do. Make sure you are using the advanced setting in the mission editor not the easy setting. You can edit waypoints to control speed. You will see a speed parameter, choose "limited" to slow the helecopter down. You can also choose "full" if you want to get out of somewhere in a hurry. -
Cool idea in need of scripting
USSoldier11B replied to BiG_D's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
In the U.S. Army, the term we use for transporting things by ropes from helecopters is "sling loading". You can find scripts for this in the "code snippits" section of the OFP editing center, there is a link to that site on the OFPN homepage on the left hand side under "Affiliates". -
Good point Assualt, the U.S. military also uses the Barret for UXO.

Fn fal (aka slr,if your from oz as well)?
USSoldier11B replied to 168GRN HPBT's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I owned a really FN FAL about a year ago. Yes, OVER HERE IN AMERICA WE CAN STILL OWN REAL GUNS. It was a good one too, blueprinted by IMI. But campared to an M14 (Springfield M1A) it is junk shit (like it was hammered out of shot down russian helicopter roter blades in Pakistan) It also kicks like a mule and you would have to dump about $1,000 additionally into it to make it shoot sub-MOA, while an M1A will shoot sub-MOA out of the box, hence the m-21 & m-25 sniper systems. HK G3, 91, 93, etc... Are good rilfes if they are not knock-offs. -
The Spetnaz wear OD green cravats on their heads. Also they will get out of a UAZ and walk towards a tent. If you miss any of them, they will run, but they will always go back to the tent (they are stupid.) I snipe from as far away as possible, and can usually kill eveyone on the base excluding armor. Remember an acronym we use in the U.S. Army OKOCA (Observation & Fields of Fire, Key Terrain, Obstacles, Cover and Concealment, Avenues of Approach). Set up a spot in the woodline that is on high ground (key terrain) and has a good field of view over the camp (observation & fields of fire), A fence prevents the enemy infantry from coming at you from 12 o'clock (obstacles), Trees give cover, bushes concealment, Armor cannot enter the forest, and it usually slows down infantry as well (avenues of approach). OFP is the most tactically accurate game i've ever played, using real military doctrine will keep you alive and help you accomplish missions.

Several times I have managed to kill almost EVERYTHING around the house. Cross the fence by the coast (not through the gate) you can sneak up on the house from there, avoid the patroling BMP, you will get a feel for it's route very quickly. Hide in the bushes and start picking off troops. For some reason they have a really hard time finding you. Keep moving and hide in bushes next to house. Keep pickin off the infantry. Soon a T-72 will come to investigate. Usually he will park right next to you. Plant a satchel charge and move around the corner of the house so you don't die from the blast, and blow him up. Do the same with the second BMP that comes to look for you. With a little patience you will soon find that there isn't shit around except for the patroling BMP. All you have to do is go in the front door and you will have the documents, it doesn't involve any searching. Avoid the patroling BMP and go out the way you came in. Also, I noticed a base really close that has a bunch of empty helicopters in it. Can you steal one and take everything out first? I think i'm gonna try it.

Mission poll (look at this one)
USSoldier11B replied to &#lt;:MeAn -NiPa:&#gt;'s topic in OPF MISSIONS
I like the SF missions, even though they are not very realistic. (trust me, I help plan them in real life) One man elements are very rare, and three to four man elements are usually for recon, not direct action or sabotage, such as a SOT-A team that operates in support of an ODA (American SF A-team) that will go into an AO and gather intel. Anyway, I like the SF missions in OFP because they are so open ended. There are usually enemy helicopters and tanks that can be stolen and used to inflict major damage. (i.e. wake-up call), instead of being crazy and trying to take out everyting with three LAWs of some satchel charges. -
If the helicopter's land way point, and the units that you wish to embark "get in" waypoints are not sychronized, the helicopter will not wait for the squad to get in. Try doing that.
-
Are the vehicles that you are trying to put waypoints on empty? If so, of course it will not work. If you make it so that AI troops get in the vehicle, they will drive it along the waypoints that they are assigned. To make AI troops get into a vehicle place a waypoint over the vehcle and select the "get in" parameter.

I have a logitech optical mouse, and my scroll wheel works on the actions menu.

I found that using word pad is a pain in the ass. (likes to tack another file extention on to the end, such as .rtf) Try downloading the OFP script editor from the apps section at the OFP Editing Center site. It's really easy to use and saves files in the formats used in OFP (i.e. .sqs,.sqm,.ext). You can find a link to the site on the OFPN home page on the left hand side under Affiliates.

I never had a truck dig a foxhole for me! 1-3 minutes to dig one? Have you ever dug a fighting position? Especially in crappy terrain. You are looking at a few hours, especially to fill all those sandbags. Rivers would be cool, and to have the ability to swim. That is opening a whole new can of worms....

Canada has an army?..... just joking I've been in the national guard for 3 years 5th Bn/ 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) love it.

In reference to an ealier comments. The same applies to putting ONLY WATER in 5 gallon military water cans. So, some dumbass drove a Humvee out to the DZ when we were doing airborne ops and ran out of gas. When everything was said and done (about 5 hours later), noone had gone to recover the vehicle and driver. So my section sergeant and I were given the unfortunate task of doing this. We couldn't find a diesel can anywhere, so he suggested that we use a water can. Needless to say we looked for the vehicle for an hour and it was not there. The driver had hiked back into town and bought a gas can. So, the next morning I noticed the smell of diesel, someone had emptied our "water" can outside by the motor pool. First Sergeant was pissed, good thing no one tried to drink it.

My name is Nicholas Roop I have no formal computer related education. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado USA I am an operations agent for a local executive protection agency. I am also a Specialist in the U.S. Army National Guard PST Co, 5th Bn/ 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) I have to MOS's: 11B (infantryman), and 96B (intelligence analyst).

I would be happy with a C-130 for airborne ops.

Anti-Tank? A .50 cal wouldn't do anything to a BMP (unless you shoot the back hatch with incindiary ammo), much less an MBT. Hell, a t-80 isn't even a realistic match for a M1A1/2. Hence M1's killed in Desert Storm = 0. Nor is the Barret technically considered a sniper rifle. It is used for hard target interdiction. Barret boasts that the rifle can shoot 1 moa with match ammo, but at 1000 meters 1 moa is 10 inches. A good sniper rifle will shoot .5-.25 moa at that distance like a .300 Win Mag, or a really good marksman with a .308. Barrets are good for disabling vehicles with very light or no armor, and reinforced troop emplacements.

Forget the osprey, the UH-1 (huey) is a good idea, but what I would really like to see is a HC-130. I have heard rumors that this add-on is being built. Does anyone know anything about it? </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">If you are short of everything except enemy, you are in combat.<span id='postcolor'>

Multiple aircraft airborne insertion
USSoldier11B posted a topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
I tried using the script provided in the tutorial for parachutung provided on this site, I couldn't get to to work. What I'm doing is inserting multiple squads (platoon sized element) from UH -60's. The IA squads would not jump, only the squad leader would exit the aircraft. What was I doing wrong? I did get another method to work though. It is a code snippet off of the OFPEC site, orignally for inserting multiple squads from a CH-47. This script utilizes a trigger to initiate the script instead of a waypoint. It works beautifully and it looks cool in conjunction with some camera effects to pan around and see the entire platoon parachuting from multiple aircraft. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">"If you are short of everything except enemy, you are in combat."<span id='postcolor'> -

USSoldier11B replied to USSoldier11B's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
You should use the script that I modified using triggers, it's really cool and your squad, and the AI squads will exit the aircraft beautifully, with about a 1 second interval between each jumper. The player and the squad will exit automatically when the chopper hits the trigger area, and you don't have to worry about giving manual commands. I'd like to get the mission published it turned out really good, it only requires the HK addon pack by The Lost Brothers. The OICW is a sweet weapon with good target acquisition and firepower.
