What about the improved M1A2? The M1A2 program provides the Abrams tank with improvements in lethality, survivability and fightability required to defeat advanced threats. The M1A2 includes a Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer, and Improved Weapon Station, position navigation equipment, and a distributed data and power architecture, embedded diagnostic system, and improved fire control system. A radio interface unit allows the rapid transfer of digital situational data and overlays to compatible systems anywhere on the battlefield. International sales of the Abrams tank are strong. Egypt has purchased 555 M1A1 kits. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia purchased and fielded 315 M1A2 Abrams tanks in the Royal Saudi Land Forces. The Government of Kuwait purchased and fielded 218 M1A2 Abrams tanks in the Kuwaiti Land Forces. All of these nations are considering additional orders. Currently General Dynamics is engaged in competitions for the sale of M1A2 Abrams to Greece, Turkey and Qatar. Production of new Abrams tanks for the U. S. Army is complete. In lieu of new production the Army has a requirement to upgrade over 1,150 early model M1 tanks to the M1A2 configuration. A multi-year procurement for 600 M1A2 upgrades, awarded in July 1996, is in its fourth year of deliveries. Further M1A2 improvements, called the Systems Enhancement Package (SEP), are underway. These enhance the M1A2s digital command and control capabilities, and add a second generation forward looking infrared system to the gunner and commander thermal sights. An under armor auxiliary power unit, new computer mass memory unit, color maps and displays are included in the enhancement package. A follow-on multi-year contract to deliver an additional 307 M1A2 Abrams upgrade tanks with the System Enhancement Package (SEP) was awarded in March 2001. Contract funding will be awarded in three yearly increments with a period of performance from August 2001 through December 2004. -Courtesy of General Dynamics Land Systems- Plus the GDLS has already began a project to replace the Abrams line. Fact is, the U.S. has a bigger defense budget, and will continue to produce MBT's with better survivability and more lethality, while Russia can't even afford to dry clean it's officer's uniforms.

Planes! do we really need them that much?

Sorry, Tex I was cranky that day. No LT's in my unit. Lowest ranking officer is a Captain. (Detatchment commander) SF unit are set up a little differently than conventional units.

US Special Forces are the best equipped most trained force in the U.S. Takes approx 1 1/2 years to complete all of the training. I have to say that the British 22nd SAS is the priemer CT unit in the world though.

    Tow

TOW stands for Tube Launched Optically Tracked Wire Guided Missle. When you launch a TOW you have to track the target with the optical device all the way to target contact. The newer Javalin system is Fire and Forget.

Most of these crimes are commited with weapons that were obtained illegally. (Like Columbine) In the town I grew up in almost everyone owned guns. # of homicides in a 20 year period = 0.

If a woman can make it through Marine boot (no offense ladies) so can you. Army basic is less intense and shorter. Personally, I like my unit because I get to do cool shit, and still be a civilian and make more money. Where do you live? I can give you a list of options for your area if you are interested in a National Guard unit.

So good luck finding a decent 3rd party designer because let me tell ya, making a well designed, textured and well handling C-130 into the game is no small task <span id='postcolor'> Did you not get held enough as a child? Do you need a hug? Cuz, dude you are one pessimistic guy. Every thread I look at it seems you post something that cuts someone down, ridicules thier ideas, or you make some snide remark. Sure, some are a little outrageous but at least these people are being creative instead of having a defeatist attitude. You need to cease fire. (armour-piercing-fin-folding-discarding-sabot?) <span id='postcolor'> Excellent, you've been doing your homework. But, it's only one F. (APFDS) Yes, APFDS (sabot) rounds are more powerful. They are basically a rod of depleted uranium encased in a plastic sabot that is dicarded after the round leaves the barrel. Rod length to diameter ratio generally determines the effectiveness of the round. The greater the differential the more effective up to the point at which the rod becomes to thin and bends upon contact. Length is also a measure of effectiveness up until the point at which the round becomes too heavy and loses energy on target. HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) rounds are a conventional munition generally used for killing lighter armor.(like APC's) HE (High Explosive) are mainly anti-personnel. (like a big fragmentation grenade)

    Why americans scare me

Despite the fact that we disagree, I would like to thank you for a least being open minded and mature about it. Some of your points do make sense, but mostly in very extreme situation. Plus it depends on your shooting skills. Chances are if it were me he would be on the ground before he got his gun out of whereever he is keeping it. If there is someone behind me, well I guess I'm screwed. Muggers generally tend to be desperate people who lack the smarts to figure out how to commit white collar crimes. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Or the other guy in the bush behind you, draws his MP5 and mows you down? <span id='postcolor'>There are different kinds of criminals, and I don't think that you have the right to shoot somebody, just because he wants your money. That's alot of effort for the $20 dollars in cash that I carry. I prefer plastic it's safer. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">There are different kinds of criminals, and I don't think that you have the right to shoot somebody, just because he wants your money.<span id='postcolor'> I'ts not the fact that he wants my money, it's the fact that he is threatening my well being to get it. In 1999 statistics for armed felons killed while committing a violent crime in the U.S.: 75% were killed by civilians with legally concealed weapons, all ruled self defense (in the U.S. protecting others from harm also falls under self defense.) Now that's crime prevention.

    Why americans scare me

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> A) Give him your money B) Take out the pistol and make the situation extremely dangerous I think that A) is good, especially if you don't have much money. But this is more philosophic question then.. Personally, I would C) kick the bully's ass <span id='postcolor'> You must really be a bad ass to opt for C). I have seven years of martial arts, arrest control certified, Army combatives certified, and still would opt to shoot him first. I learned something called the 1+1 principle. If someone uses a certain level of force on you, you then step up your level if possible. A is foolish because many people who cooperate when they get mugged get stabbed or shot anyway. In the U.S. pulling a knife is considered a deadly force assault. The police will shoot you on the spot. As a citizen you have the right to defend yourself so shooting someone would be warranted. So how can "B" make things worse. Oh no!!! You might kill or injure the criminal scum. Consider the alternative, you are broke, dead, or hurt. I must be tolerant of European thinking though, our political left wing. is more conservative than your political right wing. I hope you respect my views because I am experienced in the field.

All happy and good over there, but here we have a little problem with Constitutional law. See, the founders made sure that the people of the United States had a right to protect themselves. (See 2nd Amendment on the Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution) So feel good happy Liberal gun legislation kinda tampers with the basic rights of Americans.
