I've seen a 5.56 NATO go right through a kevlar helmet. As for body armor, it isn't good for much more than stopping flak and lower caliber pistol rounds. A 5.56 NATO will pierce a U.S. issued flak jacket, as well as law enforcement level IIIA body armor. Just as a frame of reference, the 5.56 X 45 NATO (.223 Remington) is one of the smallest (usually about 55 gr.) high powered rifle rounds. Lots of muzzle velocity (3300 fps), but less energy on target than a 7.62 NATO.

Slang not to term with your international friends

Word that gets on my nerves: sik i.e. "OFP is a sik game." ? Run it through Norton then. I believe this word is derived from "ill" i.e. "OFP has some ill sounds" I believe ill is officially an ebonics term, but sik? Did that come from a buch of whities trying to be cool.

Are you in the military? Unlike the UCMC, there is not a desinated sniper MOS. Snipers in the army are just infantrymen who have gone through the Long Range Target Interdiction school at Ft. Benning, GA. In conventional units snipers are also a battalion asset as well.

    Whats your favorite island?

I voted Everon. I just really like the atmosphere for some reason. Malden is a close second though. All of the islands in OFP are pretty good. They are all useful for different scenarios.

Blak ops, snipers and the "front" platoon

Yes, but recon elements are not supposed to engage the enemy unless they have to. Even then they break contact and go into E&E. Why? Beacause then the enemy will know that they have been compromised.

I am very disapointed in bis's lack of sniping....

yeah. come to think of it a spotting scope wouldn't be any better than binos because of the fog in OFP. Spotting scopes are usually around 24-36X which is too much power for OFP.

I am very disapointed in bis's lack of sniping....

I don't really have too many gripes about the sniping in OFP. I think it is better than in the DF games. I would like to see an M-24 with an accurate representation of a mil-dot reticle scope. That is what I shoot with in real life, as well as most U.S. snipers. I can snipe effectively in OFP out to about 500 meters. After that you can't see anything. I would like to see a spotter created that is armed with a scoped assault rifle and a spotting scope with laser rangefinder.

Blak ops, snipers and the "front" platoon

You are right about that. In real life snipers are used for target interdiction not recon. That is thier specific task. In the army we have LRS (long range surviellance), LRRP (long range reconnaissance patrol) units. This is thier specialty. Most of these guys are Ranger qualfied and are proficient in small unit tactics. Maybe a good idea for a clan? To put together a four to six man recon team to support the clan? I believe it is a skill to be recognised. Although sniping and recon are similar in the fact that they are covert, they are generally mutually exclusive. Most conventional infantry unots will have LRS/LRRP detachments.

Is flashpoint a recruiting tool ?

If some poor fool joins the military based on his perceptions of a video game, then he is in for a real surprise. I am an infantryman, and there is a whole lot of bullshit that comes with the job. I am also an intel analyst, which is much easier physically but still stressful mentally. Also most people in the military are REMFs (Rear Echelon Mother Fuckers), who never fire a weapon except to qualify once a year. Such exciting positions as "logistical supply specialist" or "heavy equipment driver" are among your options. The only people who get the cool jobs are the smart people, and the amazingly physically fit people. (i.e. SF, Delta, Psyops, MI) Besides, from what I see around here, 70% of the people in this forum are too liberal to ever shoot at anyone, not exactly your military type.

    C-130 update

Here is the text from an e-mail that I received. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Hi Im Jellybelly, Im a moderator on www.ofpeditingcenter.com Im also making addons with Tigershark, the owner of OFPEC in our addon team TJP. You can check our addon site out here: http://www.ofpeditingcenter.com/tjp/ So far we have only made retextures (due to current limitations). Also, please dont pay too much attention to the pics on the front page of the Zodiac and attack sub. I made them real quick just to illustrate the basic concept. I noticed Your offer in the C-130 addons thread on the OF Forums to help out if needed. It so happens I started on a C-130 model, that Im planning will have the features You mention. Ive got detailed multiview drawings of the exterior, but the hard thing to get a hold of is info on the interior (data, pictures etc). If it would be possible for You to take pictures of the Hercs inside (suitable for data as well as textures) it would be a great help indeed. Although the Hercules project is not the top priority project for us right now (the Pavehawk model and LittleBird are first), I get some work done on it little by little on the side. Should You decide to help us, I cant offer anything except clear and full and credit for whatever You do for us, as well as sincere appreciation on our account. We are true suckers for realism and accuracy, and we will not be satisfied until we get as close to the real thing as possible. Thats where people having access to the Real Life object are extremely helpful. I just need various graphical information on the interior, to make an accurate simulation of the Herc. Please let me know if You have opportunity to take pictures from within a C-130 (various locations and angles) without extreme difficulty, and what quality You think You can deliver. We are of course also interested in any other to You available information that might be of value to us. If You feel this might be worth discussing further, You are welcome to mail me at: sbb_jellybelly@hotmail.com Thanks for Your time and sorry for long text. Take care Jellybelly <span id='postcolor'> Well, it looks to me like one is definately being developed, and I will most cetainly help them by taking the photos that they need to model the inside of the herc. Â Â Keep pushing the issue! Any input would be appreciated.

    C-130 update

Thanks for the pics. I'm still going to to take a bunch so that they can be pieced together to show the entire cargo bay in detail. Seat configuration could be a problem for the designers, whether it will have all the seats, including middle row. Or be set up to carry troops plus cargo.

I am very disapointed in bis's lack of sniping....

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">IRL it is also much harder to shoot an assult rifle because of the enormous recoil, but you can't feel that behind the monitor, can you? <span id='postcolor'> Assault rifles are have less recoil in general, especially if they are chambered in 5.56 X 45 Nato. Kalshnikov style rifles are chambered in 7.62 X 39 RSR which is milder than 7.62 X 51 NATO. This is due to the fact that most assault rifles have recoil buffers. Especially M-16 type rifles. Now if you are talking about an FAL which shoots a 7.62 X 51 NATO, yes the recoil will bruise your cheek due to the undersized buffer assembly. A bolt action rifle like the M-24 has a solid recoil but it's not terrible. Consider the M-21, which is just an accurized M-14 with a scope. It was originally designed as an assault rifle. When you get into exteme long distance sniping that is when the recoil factor becomes a pain in the ass. Such as using rifles chambered in belted magnums like .300 Win Mag, or .338 Lapua. The recoil on the Barret is surprisingly managable due to the massive muzzle brake, but your spotter will find that he is missing his eyebrows.
