What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?
TCEd replied to bloodbomb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hey metsapeikkoo, to get your youtube vids to work, remove everything except the code after the equal sign, leave that in between your youtube bbc code to get it to show. -
Check out this video on the F-35B; dYL4P9510Pw

Yea, that's the differences between a simulator and a Arcade style shooter. Ppl who get ticked off in Arma because of distance & movement, do so because their brains have saturated by Arcade style run & gun none stop action, which requires no tactics only fast fingers or macro's. You mentioned CoD4, a perfect example of none stop run & gun, with no time to think or use tactics, it's just go as fast as you can. Don't get me wrong, I have many of the CoD series games, just trying to point out that ARMA2 is not, in any way, an Arcade game, it's a military simulator, they should be told that coming in.

Well, as soon as it releases in the US, our community (AGW - just click my sig) will have two servers running ARMA2. We are running Arma1 now, just filter for AGW. We are building an ARMA2 Tournament community, two full Army's going head to head each weekend, with loads of pubbing during the week. We have ppl from all over, not just the US, so check us out. You'll find info on the home page for Teamspeak and all the rest.

Fellow Ed here, Is there some reason just about every video someone makes of ARMA2, the sound is so loud it shakes my speakers??? Can all these ppl be that deaf or is it just they don't know how to turn the sound down or edit the volume level when making a move??

ROFL.... yea... what Foxhound said.... -
The reason there weren't many US players for Arma1 was because of the way it was released in the US, 7 months after it had released in EU, without any kind of publicity I might add. There will be more more US fans now, because of the growth in the US fan base over the life span of Arma1 & you can see by reading these forums that many a US player wants info. Also we (US fans) are getting the game almost the same time as everyone else (baring the GER release). Although a lack of advertising "again" in the US, which would have exploded the US fans base. Why BIS hasn't done more in this area is a huge mystery, ads in Mag's & TV would have made them mega millions in the US alone. That one we'll probably never get a straight answer too. But in any case, the US fan base is very large and will see even more once the game is out and the word is spread.

wow, great thread guys, I gotta add that having to wait (pre ordered) is very hard indeed.

Cuz ARMA2 comes out in two weeks & OFP2 comes out in September. When you think about it, you can save up your money after you buy A2 and get OFP2 when it comes out also, problem solved.... -
News was confirmed by BIS that a demo of the game would be released before the UK deadline (19th) so hold on before you go & do something like that. Not only with the torrent have FADE, but it may mess up the one you've bought once it downloads and finds info in your registry. Best thing is play some other games to get your mind off it & just wait for the demo to release.

ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
TCEd replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes but you folks in Europe have many other options available to you to buy the game at different prices, you don't have to use Steam at all. Up to this point Steam is the only vendor selling directly to the US market, yes we can get at other sites around the world, but Steam is the only one directed at our market, which for us works out great at a decent price. If Euro's are unhappy with the Steam price, simply buy it off Amazon.co.uk or any other number of sites selling to your area. You will be able to patch & update your game without having to use Steam at all. Always get your updates & patches from Official sites & just use Steam as the means to buy/download/install. -

As a long time user of Steam to buy games, once they set their price it usually stays there & not move until the game has been out for a while, then it will go down. Honestly, the US price of $49.99 is right on target of what we normally pay for games of this magnitude. Top selling titles usually hit around the $50 mark, so I was not surprised or disappointed by this price, actually I was expecting about $10 more. So all is good, this is reasonable & expected, oh.... got it pre-ordered through Steam btw. -

The "stuff you get" is a box. :butbut: As for a manual, you can already get those online, so no loss there. And you may be forgetting shipping cost, so while the price may not be lower than the UK version, it's certainly not out of the question to high ether & in some cases when you factor in shipping cost, it's cheaper. Steam gives you some other things as well, check out this post by Hoak; -
I bought CoD5 through Steam also, but I got it late, so the version I downloaded was already patched, I think sometimes it depends on the game. In the case of Arma1, I have never experienced an issue updating the game, installing beta patches, in fact, having more than one working version, such as the case with the beta patch, all done without using Steam. Obviously we won't know how ARMA2 works until we get it, so we will all learn that as we go. My initial response is that it will not have any problems, but who knows. In ether case, I will still use Steam, they have been very reliable thus far.

lol, I agree... Hoak is doing a lot of leg work & keep us in the know.......

The same as any other game. Steam is only used to buy/download the game. It installs just like every other game, the only difference is that it puts the game in your Steam folder instead of Program Files folder, not a big deal at all. You don't have to use Steam, you can put a shortcut to the game on your desktop and never open Steam again. You can download updates & patches from any source, they will look for the games directory and install the patch, just like any other game. Steam is only a tool to use to get the game, think of it like Xfire or some other program that runs in the background while you play your games, it has a chat feature, ect.... just like the rest of the game complement software.

wow, that must be how their handling different locations then, sorry didn't know that. It would appear that Steam worked out a deal, given the info we received last week that they would be handling the UK region, that they have upgraded that deal to able to download anywhere (worldwide) yet for what ever reasons, maybe something BIS put in the deal but not sure, they are releasing at different times give your location. In any case, if this doesn't fit what you want then you will need to look at other options. go up to post #223, it has what your looking for.
-
Here is a sshot I took of Steam when I was ordering, I don't know if you see a different date, but the I was looking at said June 26th, which was the date before they moved it up so it could be they haven't edited yet;
-
Well, it says "worldwide" so I would take that for what it means.
-
The Steam news is obviously great news to ppl who like to download the game, rather than buy a disk. I personally like to download my games, hence the reason I was excited about the news. It does say "worldwide" on their news post, which means........ oh, you know. So to all those who had no solid info on where/how they could download the game in the USA, this fills that void of info, also for everyone "worldwide". As for buying a hard copy, if that is your intent, CD WOW, which as you will see on the link, is US, you can also select in the upper right corner the flag of your location to visit that page. They are selling the DVD version for less than all other countries & sites, including the UK prices. They are selling it at $39.99, which I believe includes shipping. So, if it's a DVD your wanting to pre-order & you live in the US, you can already pre-order by visiting their site, which was posted on these forums last week sometime.

wow, the forums were down all weekend, at least when I clicked the link that's what it said, I got a message that the forums had be temporally disabled due to all the traffic for the patch, I just check not long ago and it was still down, now I come on & there are all these new forums, threads & posts........ what happened, I thought the forums were down?? Well, ether way their back up now & yes, we are still without any kind of solid news about the US release. Not sure why...... just frustrated....
-
The much anticipated wait is over, the news of when -who - how the US market would get ARMA2 is that Steam is now offering a per-order option as of today! This will probably be only the first option to US fans, as more eTailers & Game sites will follow suit. You can download Steam below, then check out the Steam News or Coming Soon tabs to pre order. http://store.steampowered.com/about/
-
YES!!! US players can buy on Steam, check out the sshots below; I got as far as hitting the last button to buy, I don't have the funds to do it yet, this is great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yay:
-
the forums have gone wonky, threads posted after me, show up before me, whats the deal...
-
For now, I would just settle for solid news on the US publisher/release, regardless of how that comes about. After that, I would prefer a per-order download option. Personally, I don't need a disk, I don't use them anyway as I use image software to mount on virtual drives, saves putting the disk in ever time you want to play & saves the disk from damage, so I just by pass all that with the download version. Also saves the company who sells the game this way as they don't need thousands of hard copies, just the product keys. As for Steam, that would be great, I've bought several games off it, had no problems. I don't personally use Steam while playing, I just use them to buy some of my games through. I don't use it for updates ether, I always use the official site. But it really doesn't matter "who" to me, just let us know already!!
