*All Islands* Domination Conversion Guide + Example Missions
Thirdup replied to bushlurker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Big thanks, Bushlurker. I can't count how many times I've searched for that ai_hut code. -

*All Islands* Domination Conversion Guide + Example Missions
Thirdup replied to bushlurker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Bushlurker, Thanks for the writeup. I always forget a step or two when I try to move Domi to a new map. I'll be using yours as a punch list from now on. Quick question: for several months I've been meaning to add a "pilot" to the ai_hut. I've poured over the files, but damned if I can find where the code is. I brought it up once in the main Domination thread, but Xeno is a pretty busy guy and I don't think he ever saw it. I've got a new clan build ready to push to our server but I'd really like to add the ability to recruit AI pilots/gunner crews. Can you (or anyone) point me in the right direction? Thanks -

Dr Eyeball, What might be involved in making an option for a larger MFD display console? At my resolution (1680 x 1050) the readouts are very small (see on page 4 of this thread). I realize this was ported from ArmA1 but it would be really sweet to have the readout screen about twice it's current size. I can barely make out the target ID's and bearing info on the display while in combat.Another minor suggestion would be a way to change the default color and size of the monocle (I set mine to "green" and expand it to 105%). It's not a big deal (since once set it remains for the durration of a game) but it'd be cool to be able to save my preferences as default. I looked around in the color settings within the pbo, but I hate to poke at things like this (I'll just break it), -
Best Arma 2 server hosting?

Best Arma 2 server hosting?
Thirdup replied to BittleRyan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
We leased one from Art of War for a few months. It didn't quite live up to our expectations. We changed to Defcon and have been very pleased with both the performance and customer service. We've been with them for the past six months and haven't had any reason to search further. -

I had hoped that Opteryx would eventually re-release Avgani for ArmA2... but that looks like it will never happen, now. It was the first map that I brought over from ArmA1. I didn't use CAA1, I found a thread that listed a handfull of ArmA1 files needed to make it work. It would be nice if they could be packaged (with permission) so that Avgani could be used in ArmA2 (I know that it can be used with CAA1, but that's a pretty large chunk of stuff for those looking to just add the one map). As to Avgani's quality -vs- something "professionally developed", you should really run it before making any judgements (it's still one of the best that I've encountered for either ArmA1 or ArmA2). I used to have a sat image of the real Avgani and side-by-side pics showed the game map was accurate to the bushes. 17hx-urYmtk *and yes, I know that the titles are transposed in the clip ;) -
If you're talking about the AirCav "beach" attack scene, I think they were flying two type of birds: Bell "Huey" UH-1 Huges "Loach" OH-6 Gz3Cc7wlfkI

If you just want to convert a short sound or music clip, OggDropXPD is a really simple tool that I've used for mission stuff (it's literally drag-n-drop to use). http://www.rarewares.org/ogg-oggdropxpd.php Like Andy said, Audacity is a handy editor if you need to adjust your clips. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ As to splash screens at mission load, there used to be a tutorial around here somewhere (I'll have a look in my old links at home). It's pretty simple stuff, actually. ---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:17 PM ---------- Also, with regards to intro/outro music/sounds: I typically try to use the following standard format from the BI wiki (these were noted for custom sound use, but apply well to any sound/music files you'll use in a mission). *this is where Audacity comes in handy And remember, music can greatly increase the size of your mission file (a short clip can literally double the size). -
OK, the patch notes listed Battleye as "optional". When I installed the patch, I cancelled out that part of the install. The game runs fine, that is until I try to get online and hit a server with Battleye installed (unfortunately, the host company installed Battleye on our clan server). I tried to run the patch again, but it says "1.05 already installed". Battleye website does not offer the ArmA2 BE d/l. a) is there a trick I can do to re-run the patch and install BE? b) where on our dedicated server can I turn off BE (I don't see it in the server.cfg) c) is there another place I can get just the BE install for ArmA2? ---------- Post added at 05:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ---------- OK, found a solution with "b" by disabling BE on our dedi. I still figure I better find a way to get BE installed if I want to pop onto other servers.

Thanks fellas. Merry Christmas!

That got it. Much thanks, Deadfast.

I see a number of dedicated servers running without BE. Is there any way to disable BE on our deicated server? I don't see it in the config or command line.

Helicopter bug/error (as of 1.05)
Thirdup replied to TomatoArden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yep. I recall some images posted some months back showing the same thing. It's not so much 1.05 as a poor mod cfg that's at fault. I'll see if I can locate the thread, it may help you isolate it. -
So far, an overall "good" patch. Wtg with: *Improved HUDs *Fixing the C-130 nose gear (did opening the cargo door make it in?) *Love the AH-64 I'd still like to see completion of some of the works that have been started: *Wingtip vapor trails are in-game but disabled *Osprey folding wings are in-game but disabled *Cobra folding rotors are in-game but disabled *Analog throttle needs rework (none of this 50/50 stuff) *We seriously need to see aircraft countermeasures impemented into the vanilla game (yes, I know this stuff can be modded but some of it already exists in-game so there is simply no reason it should require a mod)

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta!
Thirdup replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Sickboy, I've searched around and read several posts but I'm still not clear on the topic of leased servers: We lease a small dedicated game server for our clan play. The hosting company was quick to make the ACE2 files available, but they have not updated since v1.84. I've seen a few scattered posts about server versions being out of sync, but I'm not clear on how to resolve it. I suspect that we're somewhat at the mercy of the hosting service. My question is: how can a remote admin keep ACE2 up-to-date on a leased server (one lacking any third-party/six updater capabilities)? Will I need to overwrite the entire @ACE, @ACEX, @CBA folders with each update? Thanks -
arma 2 + 5850 = weird graphic problem
Thirdup replied to nocturna's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
It's a pretty well known issue (with no resolution that I'm aware of). I started seeing it when I went to a HD5870. But it's not just an ATI issue (seach for "white trees" and you'll find it mentioned for both nVidia and ATI users as far back as release. I've found that I can tinker with AA and AF and clear it up (but it returns randomly). -

Thirdup replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I was getting this on my client the first night. I finally deleted the @CBA folder and re-d/l'ed it from ArmAholic.com (making sure the .rsync file was included). Then I re-ran Sixpack and it finally sync'ed. But your issue is with @CBA there...... -
"Receiving" screen then nothing
Thirdup replied to -Shifty-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Soon (standard answer #1) When it's ready (standard answer #2) You might want to try higher than that (there used to be a table around here somewhere) but I think 512+ was "very high". Tinker with various settings though and I bet it solves your issue. -
ArmA II Dedicated server + addons help
Thirdup replied to -TW- Quintus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I hope you can sort this out before one of the BI moderators locks yet another valuable thread (whatever collective genius decided that all ACE topics belong buried in a single thread with thousands of post, isn't doing the community here any favors). I'm going to tackle setting it up on our dedi later in the week and I'll keep an eye on this thread. -
"Receiving" screen then nothing
Thirdup replied to -Shifty-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
It's not entirely a connection issue for everyone. The "receiving" bug re-appeared in 1.04 for a number of people. It's usually related to the video memory setting under options. Many users have found that changing settings can produce/resolve the "recieving" bug issue. As mentioned, it should be resolved for good once 1.05 releases.
