Mod forum topic. If ACE includes such a system, it's will be a mod. You might want to discuss it there.

    Trains?

    ArmA3 ;)

    Wow, can't wait!!!!

Then you'll need the Abu Ghraib mod and the Gitmo mod and the ACLU mod.... Easier to just shoot 'em and be done with it (in the game, too) ;)

    Heh, interesting use of YouTube.

    bad fps in multiplayer

Are you trying to host MP?
  9. Agreed. I've been playing BIS sims since 2002. I was going to wait for the ArmA2 box to hit the shelves before I made my purchase. Last Sat I watched Richie's "1500" video.....and I was downloading the game an hour later. I hope he puts that mission up someday just for grins (not that my rig could run it). Dslyecxi is another who inspires. My TrackIR5 arrives tomorrow. I spent a good chunk of change this weekend because of these two fellas. ;)

The UAV Module is Very Cool (video)

Somebody had asked for some clips on using the editor, so I tossed this one together (not something I'm good at, but it might help somebody who's never used the editor before). I had success changing the patrol altitude. I attempted 2000 feet, but the bird never reached alt and lost track of it's waypoints. At 1000 it seems to work fine and you get a better overview. In the initialization field type in "This flyinheight 1000". You can disarm the bird using the slider for "Ammunition" and the pilot will stop ordering the camera operator to "fire" (he will still call contacts). I don't have a problem with this (a UAV does in fact have a pilot sitting in a trailer somewhere). I still have to find how to change the behavior (the UAV will go into attack runs if it encounters an enemy and it seems to be highly attracted to the ground when it does this). And I've found the AI to be "lacking" when trying to take off (module or not). I'll stick to spawning it in flight for now.
  11. Audio > voices > slider to "zero" (this will also kill VOIP as I recall) (or you can run the "No_Voices" mod which will limit the chatter)

    Auto walk?

I'd have liked to have seen it in OPFP, ArmA, and ArmA2. I've traversed every map in-game on foot, and yeah a run-lock key would have been (would still be) very handy. If you take off on foot, you can run for hours on some of these maps (I remember doing just that in the old OPFP CTI missions). And some of the early Evos that required earned rank to get a ride...if the fight was 10k away, you were screwed. The argument that it's not realistic or non-imersive is mission-dependant (if a mission like Domination can have teleport points or instant halo drops, then a run-lock key isn't game-breaking). It's certainly not needed in most mission environments, but it's not uncommon to face a 15 minute jog on some maps. And yeah, the old middle finger get tired. Maybe it wouldn't bother me if I *were* younger. ;) ymmv

    Anyway to mute the voices?

Thanks for the link. I used the ArmA version and was hoping the ArmA2 version would be out soon (since radio comms in A2 are 2x annoying). I was in a Domination firefight with 8 AI squad members and I was ready to rip my ears off from all the horrid chatter. I just muted voices in the options. But there are some things you want to hear about.

    Auto walk?

Heh, anyone who has ever walked 30 minutes across one of the OPFP/ARMA maps from the middle of no-where feels your pain. ;) (I use the "piece of paper" if my JS or left controller are not hooked up) Oh, and this isn't some oversight on the part of BIS. They left it out intentionally. It's long been debated since OPFP first released....thru ArmA....and now ArmA2. Not gonna happen.

The UAV Module is Very Cool (video)

I *think* this is the code. I'll tinker with the patrol alt when I get home. Init Field: This flyinheight 2000 I'm also goin to disarm the UAV (I think that will stop the pilot from trying to give commands to the camera operator). That can simply be done via a slider as I recall. And I think there is a way to initialize "careless" and "hold fire" behavior within the object/UAV itself (ie: I don't want to use editor waypoints because the module containes dynamic waypoints that can be dragged while in play). I know I could crack the pbo and alter the module itself, but I'm trying to avoid that for now.

They have to be placed into a mission. You can play with them in the editor, though.... 1. Single Player > Open the editor and select a map. 2. Select "units' at right and insert soldier (be sure to set it to "Player" in the properties). 3. Air> Insert a UAV (I'd suggest that you set it as "flying" under "formation"). 4. At the top left, select "Empty", then "fortifications" in the window below that, then insert a structure (ie: "large bunker") 5. Select "Modules" from the right and insert the "UAV module". 6. At the right, select "synchornize" then right click on each item and drag the line to the module. 7. Click "Preview" 8. Walk up to the structure you placed and select "UAV" to take over camera control. 9. Click "M" to open map and click on a patrol area (the UAV will automatically move it's four waypoints). Enjoy

Isn't there a way to initialize the UAV pilot as "never fire" and "safe" so that he'd just merrily follow his waypoints?. Been too long since I messed with AI. And here's some better footage while I'm at it....

    North America Release / Publisher

Yep, same here. No problem at all with Nexway (been playing since Sat). I'd suggest using a download manager (free ones are available from reliable sources). The only minor thing was the lack of any manual (but if you played ArmA, you can figure out what's changed).

I have a question about piloting

I'm more into flight sims than shooters, but OPFP/ARMA is the exception. I usually fly helos with mouse keyboard... and aircraft with a joystick (just a personal preference). I find aircraft hard to maintain a turn in with mouse control (silly default aircraft flight model always likes to try to level out). I'd recommend a cheap programmable stick if this is all you're going to use it for. A full HOTAS setup might be overkill for ArmA. Let your wallet decide. Something with a throttle control if you're going to be in aircraft a lot. Something that you can program the basic functions to (view hat, weapons cycle, fire, flares, maybe gear and flaps). You don't need a whole lot for ArmA. "Logitec Attack 3" sells for around $15 US "Saitek Aviator" sells for around $30 Thrustmaster makes a cheapie HOTAS for like $40 "Saitek X52" is a nice rig (what I currently run) at about $90 *but it has some learning curve and like I said, is a bit overkill for ArmA *edit: Oh, and one thing about any HOTAS setup....keep in mind where you're going to place it. A HOTAS usually takes up twice as much room with a bigger footprint(s).

    Desert Storm camo

Might suggest it in the "mods request" forum. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=74039 I'm sure someone is already working on it (desert camo is a very popular mod).

    Recieving while playing

I get save points when I host a MP mission (at least on a LAN). Now I wonder if it's somehow related.

    Arma II Manual ?

Thanks Placebo, There's just enough things changed between ArmA and ArmA2 that I kinda wish I had a reference (manual). Most things I've found, but some things I've lost to changes. The lack of manual was my only little gripe with Nexway. They do claim to be an "official site" and display the BIS trade mark. So hopefully, they will resolve this (with your help).
