Camera.sqs borders
Thirdup replied to Alex72's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Found this little tutorial for the camera.sqs that might help some new to editing: http://www.vimeo.com/1545959 -
Hey Xeno, Any chance of getting some altitude readout placed back into HALO drops? Thanks to the wonders of motion blur, I can't gauge the altitude to save my arse. Given that jumps are on a timer, it's a real shame to waste them.

Useful radio communication, more human. Examples:
Thirdup replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hmmmm, I'm playing ArmA2 (505 English version). I think you might be mistaken. I'll Fraps some examples tonight. The AI does in fact call out North, South, East, West as directional bearings. *edit: there may be something situational about it (range, AI type, etc), I'll look and see. But I get compass bearing reports from my squads quite frequently. -
Where to buy in the USA? (and a Steam question)
Thirdup replied to okupton's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Other d/l options are Direct2Drive and Nexway. Steam's desire to control things just never sat quite right with me. Nexway limits to three installs, I think. Not sure about Direct2Drive. -
(In US) Any downside to buying a digital copy of the 505 release?
Thirdup replied to Syllvia's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Limited to three installs. I can live with that. A few extra bucks. No big deal. Having been able to play since June 19th. Priceless. +1 for Nexway (505's digital portal). -
I don't think so. You can kill all radio comms (and voip in the process) via the audio slider. But I don't think you can filter out just the player-character audio. There is a comms reduction mod (based off the old ArmA "no voices" mod that reduces all comms (but I've not tried the new version yet). I used and liked the old one in ArmA. Damned if I can find the link to it, now :(
-
I know you can shut it off on the server side. I'm not at home, but I think you can edit your user profile to force voip "off" on the client side. My Documents\ArmA2 admin.ArmA2Profile *suggest making a backup first (open and edit with Notepad) Search for the line containing "voip" and change it to "0" (zero) I'll have a look at this when I get home to confirm, but this should point you in the general direction. *edit: are you talking about actual player voices over the radio or the canned chracter voice?
-
Can you make your own custom voice profile?
Thirdup replied to batis4's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It'd be a huge amount of recording. And I'm pretty sure that no MP server would want to allow you to upload that much crap to all the other players when you logged in. Can you imagine if every player wanted to record all his own voice-overs? We'd be days receiving all the files at log in. There's a reason why custom radio sounds are limted in size and number. -
ArmA2 allows for more than 40 players. Our current hosting service allows for up to 64.

I have to favor the new system. The calls reporting "to the West" or "to the South" are far more accurate than the old "at 3 o'clock" (when godonlyknows what direction the AI was facing when he called it in under the old system). -
What exactly were you looking to manage remotely? I mean, there have never really been all that many administrative commands that require you to be logged in. I can only think of a few that I've ever needed to use. It's never been an issue for me to just bounce the server with a fresh cfg file (the rare exception being when a long-running persistant Domination game is in progress)...
-
Well, depending on the host....you can remotely stop and restart the the server (if ArmA2 is a running as a service for instance). And you can make changes and ftp or upload a new config file, then restart the server. Some game hosting services allow you to stop/start your server and edit the cfg file online via a web-based editor. You can change server settings this way (motd, banlists, allowed mission pools, voting, etc). But I'm pretty sure that all cfg file changes require a restart. There is also this (but I've never used it): http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmAtechSquad_Dedicated_Server_Tool

I can replicate it anytime I exit a helo after a flight in a Domination game with all settings on "high". Turning all settings to "normal", I played online for four hours w/o a hitch. So, somewhere in between I expect I'll find my solution.

I was surprised when ArmA1 released w/o aircraft countermeasures. There have been a number of mod solutions over the years (Mando Missiles being one of the slickest). Given all the added goodies and animations that ArmA2 has (many similar to the mods that ACE contained), I was again surprised to see countermeasures not included in the core game.

Trigger big area
Thirdup replied to kiptanoi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Mutliple over lapping triggers, maybe? Instead of one big area. ---------- Post added at 02:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 PM ---------- I'm stuck at work and don't have the editor here, but wouldn't the activation that you want be: Bluefor "detect by" Opfor? -
I find the helos are actually very well controlled via kb/mouse. I pretty much always use a joystick for planes. A few things I'd suggest for basic helos: *Practice, practice, pratice. *For training purposes (learning the basics) use 3rd-person view until you're comfortable with how all the controls are reacating. I think you get a better perspective of your situation and what's around you in 3rd-person (that is, unless you're using a TrackIR) *Never turn on "auto-hover" (unless you're already in a steady hold pattern and just need a quick look around for something). *Keep one eye glued to the "Alt and Speed" display at all times. *Learn to bleed off speed and alt by flaring (nose up) slightly and dumping collective ("Z") well ahead of your aproach to an LZ. *Keep your attack runs fast. Set up from a good distance, go in hot and fast and extend out beyond your run (and plan your pass so that you don't fly over an occupied town or enemy base, etc). Taking a little extra time to set up each pass will improve your odds of hitting a target and survining the run. *Get a TrackIR once you've mastered flight.

You won't regret it! And thanks for the video.

Mine arrived today. I only wish I had gotten one years ago. What a great addition to both flight and ground combat.

It's not hard, but you just need to be familiar with the editor and the file systems of ArmA. This will give you some direction: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Camera.sqs Basically, you just place an object (or player) and initialize the script. The game does the rest, you just steer the camera and it records the path, then run it and Fraps away. ---------- Post added at 11:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 PM ---------- Here's a little tutorial clip: http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?action=details&id=562&game=Arma2

(sorry if this has been filmed and posted before, but I just dig it) I shot this from the bunker at the air strip. You sync the interface to a structure or vehicle and then assign the UAV waypoints. It has both day and night vision capabilities and is armed with rockets. Me likes mucho.....
-
Agreed. Richie's video resulted in my imediate d/l of the game last Sat. And Dslyecxi's videos have had me wanting a TrackIR for some time (also ordered on Sat and it's "out for delivery" as I type this). BIS cranks out some serious sims (I've been enjoying them since 2003).
-
I'm not very good at videos, but after I put up a the other day, somebody as for a few pointers in the editor so I tossed up a short . Nothing fancy, but it gives you a brief taste of the module interface and placement.

btw: If you join a game on an MP server, the mission is copied to your MP cache. You can move a copy to your MP game folder and host that same mission (or play it offline). Your MP cache is located something like this: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA2\Player Folder\MP Cache Once you copy the file to your MP folder, it will appear in your MP game list.

I'm no fan of Steam (I'd have waited for the box, first). But if you were willing to go the D/L route, you could have downloaded the English version from Nexway when the game released on the 19th. The fact that the US distributor wasn't announced until just the other day was a clue that the US box wouldn't be on the shelves until sometime in July. You could have ordered from a few outlets that would have shipped the UK release (but I had a buddy in ArmA who waited five weeks for his order that way). There's also an outfit in Canada that ships Euro/UK games to the US. I'd suggest just getting it from Nexway and be done with it.

Jack, Have a look at Dslyecxi's guide (it's a sticky at the top of the forum). It'll give you some idea of how "non-archade" ArmA truely is. http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com
