Amazing grass effect there.
-
-for AGP users like myself , if you don't have high , very high and default in your video memory settings within arma2, you have to set the AGP aperture size to at least 256mb in your BIOS (the max on my system , although Thrott seems to have 512). Then high , very high and default will be available in the video settings of arma , otherwise this workaround can't work.
- There was also something with Catalyst A.I enabled/disabled , I will check at home, but this is not the heart of the solution for me.
-And 2 things for Thrott : you wrote about GART version , is it updatable within the BIOS or independently of the BIOS (wonder how this would work) or is it part of the ATI card drivers and so through the AGP hotfixes ?
The other thing is that OC'ing the card in catalyst did worsen the overall performance for me, so I run stock clocks on my 3850. Just facts , no theory for me behind it (although overheating might be an issue or that the memory bus (as we are speaking about vram issues) is overwhelmed .... no dont hit me , please :D )
Hope you can decode what I wrote and that someone will have an overall improvment of this otherwise fantastic game.
A last question to BI developers (although as a developer myself I usually am and do not feel responsible for first-level support ) : How is the nonlocalvram used in arma2, how is it detected , on AGP? on PCIe? Is it possible to have a little explaination about this parameter or a link to another thread which explains the details ? thanks in advance , and keep on the otherwise great work.
HellfireDeluxe
Hi HellfireDeluxe,
Ok, the AGP aperture settings in the BIOS for us measly AGP users directly relates to the Nonlocalvram in the arma2.cfg and also appears to effect when the corruption occurs. For me, as you stated, I have the option to increase mine in the BIOS to 512MB, this means I don't actually get the issue anymore but it is not ideal which is why I keep champoining this issue.
Playing with the ATI AI had no difference in performance or stability for me, this is now set to standard.
GART is the control for the OS to commicate from the mobo to your AGP card, this a system driver that will come with your motherboard drivers, the motherboard i use is only stable when using 3.7.7 whereas there is a 4.4 or higher about. I managed to frig the system to use the later version but again this was a red herring.
Hope that helps.

Demo still gives an accurate slice of what the game is about, no need to update it.

Tyres flying up in the air after destroying a nearby truck, they look like something from Stargate as they keep going up and disappearing. Plus, if you jump on them you too get lift up into the air, nice new feature. Not going to talk about the lack of a fix to the graphical corruption here.

Has anyone with the 512 artifacts tried running directx setup off of the disc? I just ran it and it installed. Whenever i tried to install the "latest" from microsoft it said i already had the latest? But off the dvd installed?? no idea if it fixes anything, as i still have my gig in...I think the redistributable only overwrties the files it came with whereas the M$ site checks and doesn't make any changes, this is so game manufacturers can assure that you have the correct DX files installed. DX games are programmed to use a certain version of the DX release I believe so installing a later version will not make the game use any later files as it will have pointers to the 'February DX9 Redist (or whatever) rather than the 'July DX9 Redist' etc.
The game engine has an issue with the way it is addressing memory, it is a problem when it fills and does not clear the used space and tries to overwrite frames which causes corruption. Due to the way memory is addressed and only seems to appear on 'some' systems it would seem that it is a tricky little bugger to rectify thus BI have not entertained a fix or discussed what they could be doing. I think we are all going to have to live with it, those who are unable to work around, buy new cards etc. should look at returning the game if they are able or seeking a refund directly with BI (which they would ignore).
That's my say.

Daniel, you are describing a hardware type fault yes. If you look back on this thread then you will see we are not having the same issue you have, our problem occurs when running the game for a few minutes when the cards memory gets filled, it will stay happily on the menu screen, it will not black screen and we will not need to reboot. Exiting the game or type flush fixes the issue until the memory i filled again.

Just to let you guys know, graphical artifacts with ATI cards are still there with 1.03But iam still happy we got the patch. See ya on the servers online (with lowest texture settings of course):bounce3:
Fantastic, glad BI ignored us then with no explanation.

Doesn't sound like 1.03 is going to fix the BSOD and CTD issues.....nice!Make sure you have crash dumps enabled then download http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed this wil enable you to see exactly what caused the crash and which driver/conflict it appeared to have, it may also help you work out if it is indeed the game causing the issue.
CTD is an undocumented feature they leave in for show.

So Daniel you are saying that out of every graphically engine pushing game that has been release to date ArmA 2 is the only one that somehow pushes your card beyond its means by overheating it ? GTA4 for example doesn't exhibit the issue, no other game I know of has this issue ? I think it is very hard to just say that errr some of your cards are bust as I just bought a new one and all is fine. You do state that your findings are not scientific and I agree but would also see if you have tried your 'faulty' card in another system with ArmA 2 ? If you want me to test it then send it to me ;)

Just counting down now on my few fingers on each hand (5 or 6 using Placebo speak) ;)
Oh well, will wait to complain about the lack of the graphical corruption fix for some ATI cards and users /sniffle.
-
It will only close if it gets out of hand, we can now analyse the response by the moderator, tear it apart, complain why there is no more information about specific fixes and enhancments that may or may not have been made, the actual progress of said fixes and the file size and why it is a) too small or b) too large.
...or take it on face value that very soon indeed means very soon so come back tomorrow and see if we have a patch to complain about over the weekend.
-
It's coming soon, this week i believe.
Which is where the confusion is. The facts are: Patch is in the works, it is almost done and very close to release, it could be in a week or later depending on any bugs that it introduces during testing.
Nowhere has it been stated it will be out this week but all that has been said it will be out soon.
Lets not fuel speculation as it sets expectations too high. This thread will be locked shortly as its just a usual digruntled user that can't read.
Edit: Correction http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=82123&page=12 Posted 1/8 saying it will be out in a few days...

Need the grass and trees from the main ArmA2 island and it would be great. Do you need proper tools to do that or can we not just replace the existing for the new ?
Virtually no stutter, frames are 40-60 in all towns / cities and areas, runs like a dream, what a shame this didn't come with the standard ArmA2 install, it would have made the game much more playable :(
Cheers for download.

Would love to move to Win7 but can't until I upgrade mobo due to Nforce2 not supported.
-
The instructions are posted in the mod section with the names of files you need rather than watching someone do it on youtube (not sure why you would video yourself copying files??) - Still, they do work but will use a lot of ArmA 1 objects and have some errors when loading etc.
Best thing to do would be to wait for the correct tool and who knows, there may even be a suprise in 'one' 0f the patch3s from BI, which would be nice.
-
There is a slight issue of releasing 'each build' type beta patches, it means that server admins will most likely not patch the server until it is finalised so the community will be split but I would assume that as per ArmA 1 you would be able to run both non-patched and beta-patched on the same machine (mod folder).
Still any improvment over the current patch method would be welcomed.
-
Fingers crossed it'll be less than a week away, less than a few days away, but you know how sometimes unexpected things crop up so right now we can't say "oh it will absolutely be within 2 days" or something like that, as if it slips we get lynched again ;)You're very welcome, glad to be able to help :)AI fixes, campaign fixes, bug fixes, MP "receiving" fix, MP/Coop campaign improvements, some optimisations, usual stuff :)Exactly. The patch will be released as soon as it is ready and will include a fix or two .... well maybe 3, possibly 4, then again it might be more. All you need to know is ... a patch is being worked on and will be released when it is ready, it won't be released if it isn't ready, sounds reasonable to me.
Planck
1.03 will come in few days, but we want to change way how we make patches. If it will be possible we will start beta releasses every new build. I think this will be announced soon, when we will be able to organise it....and there we have the locked sticky re: 1.03 details.
-
And herein lies the next lot of flame threads when its out.Ah bugger, yes my bad, i meant 'final version of 1.03' and not final patch as in last ever, just to clear things up there. :)
-
well, the community bugtracker is not a BI service. And it's true, that not many other games have a bugtrackers available to the public. To conclude from that, that BI is a great company to allow that... is a bit farfetched imo.I thought that too as its not a BI owned service then anyone could set a bug tracker up, it even says 'community' bug tracker which really has nothing to do with BI but just for the community to post on to make them feel better. It gives a false impression that these are what BI are working on and looking at. We shall see if the final patch has references to this bugtracker and the number in the tracker it relates to, 1.01/1.02 didn't...
Still looking forward to the official BI patch though, will have a look in another week to see if its out.

I run two, they run great. I use Crysis.exe. and 32bit HDR. maxmen is set to 2047.
j/k ;)

Users with a high posting counter could as well be considered fanboys... I had a look at that community issue tracker. There are close to 500 (!) reports. You can't tell me, that a game with almost 500 unique reported issues 'runs fine for the majority'.lol, I think the fanboy group would allow me to join them. :) hehee
-
Fingers crossed there are no major bugs with the patch, saying that... well lets just hope it gets here sometime in August/September 2009.

I've got a laptop and can surf the internet fine on it. Just thought I too would post that here as it appears to be the place to post something of no relevance in the TROUBLESHOOTING forums. See the hint is in the forums name i.e. 'Trouble' part of the troubleshooting, if you wish to praise your systems and tell everyone then why not post that in the 'General' forum, that way its a 'General' topic and is more relevant.
I know this post will most likely piss people off again but I really don't understand why folk are so intent of posting 'my system works 100%' in a forum topic about a specific problem, I mean, its would make sense if it was 'my system works 100% now that I have <insert your personal fix here> after it too had the issue', am I missing the whole point here ?

Hi Mikael23,
Welcome to the forums. :o

I have had problems with ATI 4890, all working fine after reducing memory to 3328MbCPU: Q6700 Quad 3GHz
Memory: 8GB (limited to 3328GB using msconfig)
Res: 1920 x 1200
Game video settings: all Very High
Now the game look great.
Hi, how did you do that in msconfig ? Did you get the graphical artifacts like in this this thread or other issues ?
Edit: Found it, its under Boot.ini and Advanced Options. I wonder if this worked for anyone else although seems a bit harsh to reduce the amount of RAM you have just to play one game.

Great news, I have read most the posts and the press notice but couldn't find it anywhere, does anyone know if this expansion will be compatible with ATI/AMD hardware ? Maybe the system specs on the new box should have a caveat to help purchasers.
