  1. Besides Xeno's comment:

Generally, try to avoid XML entities such as the "/" in the [RBC]L/Cpl Deathblades[HQ] name tag. In this case try "⁄" instead of "/", cause otherwise the XML parsers will read a part of a XML tag, such as </whatever>, which will "disturb" the structure of the DOM.

    Plz see here:

    http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/squad.xml

and for a list of xml entities here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_XML_and_HTML_character_entity_references

  2. @ ZA Sgt.Hammer

Do not use any characters beside A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and space in the nick-attribute inside the squad-element (see Wiki page, Section 3, lit. 2 ). This may lead to strange behaviour e.g. the information from your member-block is displayed but the information from the squad-block is not.

    @RomanLord

A possible reason might be that your webhoster only allows "known" MIME types, such html, zip, etc. and paa just isn't on that list... As long as TexView can show it, the paa itself is correct...

  3. Although most people owning a Linux server are assuming that there will be a ArmA2 dedicated server version for Linux someday, i think i would be a nice motivation to the friendly people of BIS to know how many members of the community are hoping exactly...

    So, if you're

    • owning a Linux dedicated server, or
    • would like to own a Linux based ArmA2 dedicated server, and
    • you're hoping for a Linux version of the dedicated ArmA2 server

    than just:

    1. Give a reply with just "/signed" in it, and
    2. vote in the poll

To all Trolls and Flamers: NO and hands OFF...

    /signed

  4. I'm sorry to say that i failed to get "Arma2server.exe" working under Linux using Wine. My system is an Ubuntu "Hardy 8.04, Server Ed." and i tried the last stable Wine (1.01) and the newest developer branch (1.1.24).

I added two necessary DLL's (OpenAL32.dll, X3DAudio1_5.dll) to the "windows/system" folder within ".wine" and used XMing and Putty to display the Ubuntu X-server on my Vista desktop.

After starting "Arma2server.exe" with "wine ArmA2Server.exe -config=server.cfg -port=2302 -netlog" i got the "progress" window and later the "server-message" window saying "Dedicated host created".

Under Wine 1.01 the application than freezes (Termination with CTRL-C still possible), with Wine 1.1.24 a "Program Error" window pops up, saying

    programerror.jpg

In the linux terminal window there is the following Wine ouput:

    Wine (1.01)

I will post at the WineHQ buglist, maybe there's a solution...

  5. Not really, because my logo-picture isn't working either. I tried also TexView2 to convert the original PNG to PAA but without success.

I read in other threads in this forum that some people have troubles too, others work with their ArmA(1) logos and squad.xml without problems. It would be nice to have one of their logos as a sample...

  6. I'm about to try it, but like to test it on a local server installation first. I don't like to upload 8.8 GB first (or 7.3 GB zipped) before i'm not absolutely sure it will work afterwards...

My target OS will be an Ubuntu 9.04 (Server Ed.) on an Intel i7 920 Quad, 8 GB Ram. I'll give a feedback till the next weekend and would be interested in your install details/experiences...

  7. Who wants to pay for an Operating System license, just to run a game server ?

Right! And who wants to pay for an OS licence, just to play a game....? Nobody! But wait...., we all do!

BTT: I'm hoping for a dedicated linux server too!
