Any... PARTICULAR reason? I mean, okay, I can understand if it won't, but there's gotta be a reason. Im sure enough people would want it. I can't be the only one that thinks its a pretty solid concept, and we have all these American assets in the game, I think maybe its time we do an American city. By that nature... Anyone considered doing Key West? It's an island. Not all that big, and the buildings are mostly all smaller and older. Might be fun to do. -
Plane and Helicopter handling
the amazing flight lizard replied to 1988MAtej's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Actually, usually only the SOAR guys have MP5s. Everything else, at least US Army-wise, we all have M4s. In fact, as a crew chief in an assault unit, I carried an M9, had an M4 with me, and also had an M240H on the aircraft's pintle mount, with an egress kit in a bag on the floor. All the egress kit really consisted of was a spare barrel, a stock, and a pistol grip trigger assembly, which can all be placed onb the gun to adapt it for running around on the ground. One thing it definitely lacked though was any kind of box mag to carry the ammo around in, since that box was actually part of the pintle mount assembly. So if you had to get out and go with it, you'd have to do your best Rambo impression and toss the remainder belt over your shoulder. Another little thing we have is something called a COPS, or Clip-On Power Source for the NVGs. Because nobody wants to be running around on foot with their big ass helmet on their head, muffling all sound around them and generally killing situational awareness, HOWEVER, having something that allows us to use our NVGs without the helmet is a good thing, ESPECIALLY in an E&E (escape and evade) situation. That being said, the main point of my post has to do with the flight model. If we DO get the Take On Helicopters (which is nice, but SUPER sensitive) I'd hope we get more than the Light, Medium, and Heavy flight models, and get something more specific to the individual aircraft, at least with the ones that ship with the game. For instance, a UH-60 has a piece of equipment calle an MMU, or Mechanical MIxing Unit on the hydraulic deck, which blends control inputs and a helicopters natural tendencies (translating tendency, gyroscopic procession, etc.) to make the anti torque pedals, really do more of directional control, than the anti-torque. In fact, as one of my old, crusty instructor pilots did to one of our newbies, in a Blackhawk, you can put your feet flat on the floor and yank up on the collective. That MMU, as well as other systems on the aircraft (SAS/FPS) will keep your nose pointed straight, after of course, a short, quick jerk to the right. Basically I hope that if the guys look a little more into the aircraft that are being represented and understand that not all helicopters fit into the Light/Medium/Heavy model. Technology has come a long way since the infancy of helicopters. (The Apache still has to have anti-torque pedal applied *Nelson laugh*) -
Arma 3: Community wishes & ideas- NO DISCUSSION
the amazing flight lizard replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Since I was told to use this sticky, and had my thread closed, I'll post it here. Trouble is, I would love a discussion on it and further input, but I don't want anybody to get infractions for discussing it. I don't know what to do in this case, cause it seems to be a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing, but here goes: Realistic TADS (and other stuff) Hey guys. I'm around now after a trip to the Stan and some life drama crap. Forgive me if something in this direction was already suggested or requested or asked about. Well, now that we will have that render to texture feature, do you think we would be able to have an ACTUAL Apache TADS in the game? What I mean is, since I watched a video (I think it was something for the Mando missile fired from an Apache) I noticed that about half the screen was taken up with a ring, that I can only assume was supposed to represent the monocle from the Apache pilot's helmet. Well now, with render to texture, we could get the IR video feed from the TADS module on the nose of the aircraft through that module. Also, in the real Apache, the 30mm gun is slaved to that TADS and the PILOT shoots it, not the gunner. The gunner is primarily used for the other weapons systems like the Hellfires (and in the Block III D model Apache, will be also responsible with directing UAVs, but Im getting ahead of myself). This would make the Apache, or other systems in the game, a much more faithful representation. It also would make wicked use of Track IR, and make a nearly perfect rendition of flying. I dunno, maybe you guys think I'm off base with this. It would just mean that in Arma 3 we can get rid of the unrealistic display in the top left corner, and use much closer to real-world systems. If this seems to be task saturation on the pilot... it kinda is. Those guys have their hands full. And it even requires them to use their left eye for flying the aircraft ie looking around outside and inside the cockpit, while their right eye gets a totally different display from a sensor mounted way forward and outside of the aircraft. This is why (no BS) long-time Apache pilots can focus their eyes on two separate things at once, out in their daily lives, and its a really disturbing effect. We obviously won't be getting that, since its a display that we can use both eyes to look at, but still. -
What about a script where you sling your weapon, and an animation shows you climbing over the fence? I don't know if THIS is what is in mind for 1.05, I thought that was just the ability to pass over very small obstacles.

Ok, so I went and got one. Now I just have to figure out how to use it in the demo. Anyone have any clue what to do? It's kinda kickin my butt -
Well, if you think about it, wouldn't a persistent world be a cool way to do this. Maybe even make it an MMO? I know there would likely have to be some beefy servers for it, but not necessarily moreso than other games. Eliminating lag could be a pain. I would definitely pay to play Game 2 monthly. If it were something of a persistent world that is. Ever so slightly customizable, if only as far as what sort of unit you are with, what you look like etc. I'm probably alone in this but hey, worth a bit of consideration.

What about some kinda Halo/Aliens dropship thing? Control scheme etc. same as a helicopter, just able to go faster, maybe use the turo script from the airwolf mod if he'll let ya. -

GI Joe Music & Sound Files
the amazing flight lizard replied to IceFLYER's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
ok, does this mean there is a mod for GI Joe? 1. You are my hero, and I will give you my first born. 2. Be very very careful. There was a mod for bf1942 that got a C&D by Hasbro for making a mod. Heart wrenching. -
One good (and jealousy-inspiring) thing is that those guys didn't have to deal with a lot of the rules that Army aviation had to follow. Every time we went down to Washington pad from up North we wanted to go under those damned sabers. But while they were being cute and funny and hollywoodesque, those guys were dangerous and had a very real chance of getting someone hurt or killed

Assmonkey aviation. Those guys used to piss me off. That is all

but at 42 pounds it's MUCH lighter than an M2. Those things are beasts. This thing weighs a bit more than an m60 or 240, but for the stoopping power, eh, not too bad.

Hi folks. Just trying to find out if there are any addons that make the water that pretty light bluish and maybe a bright blue sky as well. I am running a gf6800 and DXDLL eats my computer alive for some reason. I've got no ability how to model or script either, but I would love to put together something for a LAN with the effect of DEA/Customs/Coast Guard vs. Cartels etc. Anyone ever release a PBY Catalina? If so, are they available in civilian colors?

the amazing flight lizard replied to the amazing flight lizard's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Thanks a lot. Would you believe I have all of those except for the go fast boats which just finished downloading? I have so many addons it's ridiculous. So many people make so many great things for this community. All i am really wanting now is for a decent DXDLL reflective water and I'll get crackin on a few missions of my own. Is dxdll compatible with FFUR? Would it be exceedingly tough to add the new series of video cards to a new dxdll? -
I'm just wondering if anyone has made a mod for a flashligth or something. Either one that you can carry, or attach toa weapon. With these zombie type mods I was thinking how much more fun it would be to LAN in a dark room, playing one of the zombie mods trying to cross from one side of the island to another. You're walking around shining your light when you hear a slight rustle to your left. You turn just in time to see the zombie pull you to the ground and eat your brains. Or also it would be something to mayb e give to the civvies as they are walking around

OK, I'm gonna do the Ugly American thing and ask if there are any plans to make an AV8B with it?

Thanks for the3 comments on the video. The grey apache belongs to a National Guard unit out of South Carolina. They are the only ones that do it. At first we were thinking they were kinda goofy for doing it. Then we realized that they were genuinely hard to see during the day. As far as the shooting, some of it was training for a mission where we did some real shooting at the bad guys. But if you were using a camera when you should be guarding the safety of the aircraft and it's crew, you are wrong. Â The times we had to aqctually shoot at the bad guy, nobody had their camera out. We were too focused on the mission. Incidentally the most irritating thing I heard came from family members and friends in the states telling me to "Keep your head down over there". Yeah, um... how exactly do you do that in a helicopter? McNool's Islands didn't come with the really blue water, i have to get it from somewhere else. No Hammerheads by Dale Brown My focus was actually thinking of the caribbean and the big drug trafficking going on there. I grew up in Miami in the 80's and saw some wacky stuff. I actually would love to learn how to skin so I can make one of the wonderful blackhawk models floating around into a shiny black and gold "Cokebuster" like US customs uses -

Yeah really. don't spose anyone can convince Kegety to adapt it? Do you spose it may just be a few simple lines of code added? OK, another couople questions... how do I run muiltiple mods at the same time, and are there any islands with palm trees and such? that replaced the normal trees for OFP? Also... watch my video! -

I thought the reflections were supposed to be the best part of DXDLL? And thus the part that makes the water worth looking at? Wasn't there something a while back that made the water and sky and such in the same vein as far cry? I know that's a bit of a stretch but that is the tropical sort of nature I would like to convey
