    William Porter's Blog

Hmmm...video is O.K. (big O big K ), but one thing bother me. You can see on video that shadow of a soldier changes - depends on the move but the shadow of the tree is still, even when the tree is "waving" because of the wind. It`s a really small thing, but would be nice if the shadow wasn`t so much static. Wonder how will it be when the weather is random, it`s obvious that the shadow should be in other place when it`s noon and when it`s 6 p.m. for egzample. EDIT: or is the shadow of the tree "moving" too? Now i`m not sure because the camera is shaking all the time

    ArmA Progress Updates

I read somewhere that anything over 25fps is undetectable by the human eye anyway! 100fps? That aditional 75fps would be better put to other processes! Huh? You can see a huge difference between 30 and 60fps. At least on a crt, not sure about LCD's, since I've never used one. I guess that you can see the difference between 30 and 60FPS...but that wasn't my point I meant it more like this: if "2,7ghz opteron 144, rad. x1900xt, 2gb ram" runs ArmA at 100FPS, than my old rig might run it at, lets say, 30FPS. But if "2,7ghz opteron 144, rad. x1900xt, 2gb ram" runs it at 30FPS, than i'm f****d! Of course, it all depends on the setting they were using, but still...i hope i can run ArmA at 30FPS on this setting: 1024*768, medium (or even low detail). Although this great game would be spoiled by that kind of setting, i just don't find money growing on trees...i really can't afford a new computer. "We continue to optimise as much as possible even as we near the end of the developmental cycle, so at this point we're still not quite sure how much we will be able to achieve in the different areas of optimisation and thus what the required system specs will be, however it's fair to say that something in the region of 2GHz intel/AMD CPU, 512MB RAM, DX9 64mb graphics card is somewhere around the probable minimum spec." by Placebo The specifications of the computer demanded to smooth play depends not on the game in general but mostly on the mode of the game. In OFP:CWC u could play without any lagg on small CTF and standard CTI (for egz. campaign everon, standard view was set on 700). When someone edited map and changed the distance, for campaign everon (5000), which could be seen (more horizon view) the FPS dramatically went down. Many people played on standard distance (700), but it was kinda unrealistic with that funny fog on 200 meters and the gameplay was shitty. It`s obvious that if u want to play CTI mode with far horizon view u need to have a good PC. Let`s hope it won`t demand a much better one than for OFP.

    Leaning?

Leaning is in Arma, i saw it on video

    Third Person

3rd sucks, it`s so arcade. Soldier should only see with his eyes - as in 1st person view. ArmA won`t be game for arcade lovers so i see no sense in putting 3rd view in it (but it`s gonna probably be there )

will you play co op or ctf etc

I don`t know why u guys love so much co-op and single player. What`s so exciting in playing against stupid Artificial Intelligence? Isn`t it better to play against good human beings opponents, which can think, plan, act. The best mode would be something like: 2 teams - 32 vs 32 players or even more (60vs60 ) and everyone controls 1 unit, 1 action (one player is shoter in vehicle, other is driver) + cti mode (money for capturing flags/towns) but without possibility to buy AI. Only human beings vs human beings.

mission "ambush" demo? IF/When you realease a demo

Sure, i never play singleplayer mode, because i think its useless. Nothing will replace a battle with a human being, which can think and not only do whats written in script.

mission "ambush" demo? IF/When you realease a demo

I hope the demo will be multiplayer. Nowadays singleplayer is useless

    Standard bug fixes...

Well, i hated in OFP:CWC when i ordered tank-the gunner to look at West (with the gun), and he didn`t respond and looked for egzample North. Hope it`ll be fixed. That was very annoying. There was also a bug, in CWC when u assign a soldier to be a driver of a tank. Then u send him to some place and assign him to be gunner. When u wanted him to be driver again, he couldn`t drive tank anymore Otherway is it possible, that driver could so easily be a gunner, and a gunner to be a driver? Maybe they should make some soldiers with abilities, that others cant, in. egz. one would be a driver of a tank, one would be a gunner. Do soldiers on war drive tanks alone, then they are gunner, and later again drive that tank alone? I don`t think so. Make the game as realistic as a real war is - we`ll love you for that  EDIT: well i remember another stupid situation from OFP:CWC (i dont know if it was changed in Resistance). When u kill your teammate - even accidentally - all your AI are trygin to kill you. Ive had a situation, when enemy was attacking me and i fired LAW missile, hit enemy, but accidentally my AI was killed too. Then all my AI - insteed firing at enemy - was shooting at me That should be changed, maybe no represions for killing teammate

    Character Ragdoll and more

Ragdoll is a fantastic thing. Try America`s Army. U know where the shot was coming from if u look at the body. Very helpful.

    AI slots

You know what would be GREAT, that every player controlls one soldier (on CTI mode, where u can buy units) - that would make AA the best First Person Shoter ever made, but should be made for big community (100 people on 1 map) and with very good communication implicated between players. Of course that could be one of the option - turning off buying soldiers, not vehicles\air units. Dreaming about it P.S. i hope u know what i am talking about. It would be like BF2 (the game mode -> 1 player = 1 unit) with CTI missions (money for capturing flag).
