  1. Oh Jesus. Where to start?

Flickering ground textures, A10 floating in the air without landing gear, pilot textures unloaded, map icons are just coloured blocks, CTD when changing video settings in-mission.

C2D E6600 and 8800 GTX and XP Pro

1.06 was way better than this. This is a big step backwards.

  2. Sometimes i wonder if that slight deviation after stepping on the rudder is the result of TORQUE.

    Correct me if i'm wrong.

    You're not wrong.

Helicopters, by and large, don't have rudders (a vertical control surface that moves to control yaw) in the accepted sense. The forward airflow is disrupted by the downdraft from the main rotor so much that any vertical tail surfaces simply don't work. They do have rudder controls (IRL, pedals), but these don't actually work a rudder, the change the amount of anti torque supplied by the tail rotor. This produces yaw effect.

  3. I'll take some fraps footage to show you.

Don't know if it's relevant, but this was on my 1.05+beta server.

edit to add, when I say buzzing, I don't mean a sound bug, I mean driving around, just offshore. You'll see what I mean when I make a vid to show you, this evening.

  4. Yes they're empty because all the people inside were killed...

I think that's what you mean

Sorry for the mission being complex - I just love them to be.

I'm not sure. The boats were buzzing around as if they were being driven, yet they were empty.

  5. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of crazy things you managed to read into my post to come back with a response like that. icon_rolleyes.gif

    I can't imagine a weaker come back.

Other than this one, of course. smile_o.gif

SOBR[1st-I-R] @ April 15 2007,10:55)]Glad you found this out, but its only one of many issues that are not realistic in ArmA.

In fact ArmA has many wrong and not far enough developed things. confused_o.gif

You must feel compelled to post your "I think ArmA's flawed" opinion at every possible opportunity, eh?

Try doing something instead of just bitching, you might be surprised at the results. Use the bug tracker, post constructive feedback, do something aside from just complaining.

As to the issue at hand, this has been brought up before in the past. It is no-doubt on the "To Do" list, but how long it may take to get addressed is up for question.

I am in fact doing something. You might have heard of Project USTP, there I am a developer bringing in my ideas to provide a guideline of realism for addonmakers and such.

And yes I "bitch" about because this is something that has to be discussed. ArmA has many flaws which decrease realism and fun in MP and SP games. Surely this is a reason to complain.

How can for example 180x 5.56mm ammo disable a Humvee while 270x 7.62mm (with greater power) do the same ? Shouldnt the 7.62mm value be less than 180x ??

And you want me not to mention it ? I have post it on the buglist too by the way, so please do some more research before accusing someone. The topicstarter complained about the Mk19s recoil and I told him that not only that grenadelauncher but many are things are not okay in ArmA.

Why should people play a game with this circumstances and rarely people complain about this basic must.

But yeah go ahead and defend ArmA because it has good graphics ...

Do you feel the need to jump on every post that says "all might not be well on Planet ArmA"?B

edit; Bah, quoted wrong post. sad_o.gif

  7. If I'm totally honest - deep down, I was too, but it didn't stop me being vociferous. I had to be - we all did - it's our duty.

I didn't play OFP from the early days, but good friends of mine who did say it was just as bad as ArmA 1.00.

I wonder what comparative level of OFP we think ArmA has reached now? Clearly, it isn't at 1.96 (the only version I played) but it's WAY way ahead of 1.00

  8. lol Scrub! You rise a fence?

    It's an English coloquialism.

To 'sit on the fence' means to not express a view on a subject that is clear cut and often devisive. When one does express an opinion, you are said to have "come down on one side of the fence". As I said, I was openly on one side of the fence and now scrub notes I'm on the other side.

  9. I played this for a couple of hours today.

    Couple of points;

Players joining during nighttime reported it was broad day light.

We found an MH-6 we had used earlier. 1 player reported it look burnt out, another said it looked fine. He jumped into it and when it took off, the first player said the helo seemed to repair itself.

Other than that, really great. Nice showcase for ArmA

  10. Fair point. I'd be fibbing if I said buying this new PC wasn't primarily because of Armed Assault, but nevertheless, that new machine a couple of patches and good mission or two has transformed it from the unutterable crap I played in November.

  11. I had one of the very first versions of this game. I got the German download 1.00, patched it to English and played it on my Athlon 3200+ with a gig of ram and a 7600 GS. It was dreadful. Really bad.

Now, a thousand pounds poorer, but I have the DVD EU version which I've patched with the 1.05 beta, running on a C2D E6600 with 2 gigs of ram and an 8800GTX. I've just been playing a couple of MP missions (the PC mentioned in p1 is now my dedicated server ) with a few mates. In 1440x900 with pretty much everything turned up to hooge, it looks just extraordinary and still turns out 30 FPS.

I am converted. This game is a hit. It will be a massive seller. I was among some of BIS's harshest critics but now I'm elated to eat my humble pie and with a combination of new hardware, a couple of patches and one or two good user MP missions, it's been transformed into an absolute winner.

Perfect it aint, but if the improvements keep coming at the same rate they have done (especially 1.05 and 1.05beta) then I hope to see more people coming around to my way. I expect the US release might come with a new patch, probably 1.06.

BIS, my hat is officially off to you!

PS, I've never used one before, but... here goes...

    yay.gif

  12. Ikon board's fantastic search tounge2.gif turned up nothing, so I'll ask here.

How do I go about using the 1.05 beta dedicated server?

I have a 1.05 euro patched version, fully installed (from DVD, not just copied files from another install) that has been also patched to 1.05 beta. The machine its running on is a Athlon 3200+ with 2 gig of RAM and a 7600gs graphics card (probably not relevent here).

If I run the server executable in the beta directory (I use a desktop shortcut which calls the config file, also in the beta dir), I get a windows popup error; no entry ".profilePathDefault". If I ok that dialogue, the server does start. What's causing this and is it serious?

I tried copying the exe from the beta dir to the main system dir and running that, but it generated even worse errors (can't remember excatly what) and bombed out.

    Any help'd be appreciated,.

    Tanky -Paul-

  13. This beautiful baby has issues, but I've never chucked a nice girl out of bed just because her credit-history is shot and she has so much emotional baggage she gets charged extra to fly from airports.

I couldn't have put it better. I like you am hoping that we can nuture this bird so that she is a little less prone to hissy fits, uses less of our valuable resources and looks as good close up as she did across the smokey dance floor. She does after all, have a smashing older sister.
