Both have merit. Why don't you fire up the usermade content + ratings systems in a separate thread?

Mapfact releases: AH-64A and CH-47D v1.08
Tankbuster replied to raedor's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
2 further things (1.07 hotfix d/s and clients) This evac thing for the Apache. When I tried to "get in back", it bumped me off saying I couldn't crew it. Also, the Chinook is a horror to fly, just like the bad old days of flying helos in ArmA. It's very twitchy. (This was in Southern Star mission, if it helps) -
Maybe the beeping is covering up the swearing of the crew? OMFG We're hit, becomes beep beep beep beep.

The thread that was started about having child characters in the game has been locked before I could gather the information for my reply so I'll start this one. Discussion about having child characters in this game left me feeling distinctly uneasy. Frankly, I though some of the comments were quite unsavoury. I emailed PEGI (Pan European Game Information) who administer the ratings system for computer games. When it was released, they gave ArmA a 16+ which is fairly self explanatory. They replied this morning. The game will get an 18+ rating if "Depictions of violence towards vulnerable human-like characters will include in particular women and children" Note "women and children" They mean civilians in this context. I wonder if the reporter female character was in the initial release or has been added since in a patch? Here's the closing 2 paragraphs of the email in their entirety. So, they way I read it, it could "break" the 16+ classification if children are added and may lead to it getting an 18+ rating, as well as getting the VSC involved. I doubt BIS will want an 18+ rating on their game in Europe as it will decimate sales. Here endth the lesson.

Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI

I refer you to the GTA/Sex scene furore. Although the developers had buried it deep out of the default path, users could still get at it. I wonder how different BIS NOT telling us to not make children addons is? -

hmm.... With inflamatory gems like that, I have a funny feeling where this thread is headed Agreed. I'll edit it out if I can. ~ ~ Done. -
Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI
Tankbuster replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
OK, in the US, the game got a "Mature" which means Blood, Strong violence and language. For it to have got an ESRB of "Adults only" it would have taken the inclusion of graphic sexual content. Whereas in Europe, the inclusion of violence toward children would have been enough to lift it to the equivelent rating. The ESRB make no mention of violence toward children. At the end of the day, both the ESRB and PEGI have given the game the same rating, but in Europe, the inclusion of children would almost certainly raise that rating. In the US, it's much less clear cut. -

Possibly. ESRB (I think) is the US equiv of PEGI? What ESRB rating did it get? -

I don't know. PEGI will have an opinion. I've replied to them by email and await clarification. -

She's in the editor, so she's available. Remember the GTA sex scene and what happened there? -
Or the FNP90 which ejects it's spent cases downwards.

Nice job kev, and thanks for the PM.

Fantastic! I await with breath baited.

And a few more... Could we have an Extra Lite version? Maybe Optimised for <10 players? I was playing this on my server with just 2 others for ages and we loved it, but the amount of vehicles and aircraft available to us was a bit overkill and might lessen the load on the server if it was cut down a bit? When an objective is complete, the only notification you get is the coloured hatched circle around the objective is removed. It's a very minor point but an "objective complete" notification would be cool. I know you wanted to keep the addon requirements down, and the Hind is a lovely thing, but I was wondering if you could be persuaded to drop the Mapfact airpack in there too? The chinook would be way cool and our pilot was longing for an Apache - the Cobra is a bit too flimsy for him! I notice the vehicles were respawning. I like it when the supply of hardware dries up after a while. An endless source of Abrams is fun, but having them run out after a while is good too. The Abrams is a maybe a bit too good, IMO. The T72's don't stand a chance. We got through a huge amount of M1's, possibly ten or more and there was only 2 of us using them. If we had been forced to go get a repair truck, rather than just dump the tank and go get another one, that would certainly add another dimension to this. This really is a nice, simple, fun mission. Refreshingly clear and bug free. None of this "respawn is for n00bs" rubbish. It's playable, fun and extensive. Fantastic. It definitely gets the TeamSPAFF approval. Oh and kudos for making it in 1.07!

As far as I can see, all ArmaTech's program does is make a GUI to write the server config file for you. While it's useful to an extent, it's not even close to what the original poster asked for.

Is there an error message?

AH64 bug. When I was gunning in a 16*Hellfire armed 64, we noticed a bug. When I, the gunner fired the main gun, we didn't see any bullet hits. When the pilot put manual fire on, we could see bullet hits. (dedicated server 1.05beta + both clients 1.05 beta) -
Can't say. Me and my clan mates just helped with some extended testing on my dedicated server.

You aren't very clear in your question? Is the server browser screen empty? Does the game crash when you try to join a game? Did it stop working just after you applied a patch? Sometimes, Windows firewall sees that a program has been modified when you patch it and thinks it may have been hijacked by a naughty and blocks it's access to the intarweb. Try turning off your firewall for a few seconds and trying it. Also, have you accidentally put in some filters in the MP browser? edit: PS, your sig pic is broken.

I did some work with UNN on a later version of this in OFP. It was buggy as hell and very laggy, but it did fly well (maybe a little too well) and looked fantastic! I see you've found some of the problems!

Being one of the poor 8800 GTX owners who has rolled back from 1.07, I was wondering... Is it possible to copy the A10 pbos from 1.07 into the addons dir of a 1.05b install? Would it work or would it break the game?

Doesn't the AUG have a vertical foregrip? I'm not sure I'd want to be the soldier holding that barrel without any heat guards.
