Gnat old mucker... I wonder if you might be able to make a static, wrecked ship? It might be nice for storyline and visuals to have a shipwreck. Tanky

You don't copy anything into the beta folder, the installer creates it all for you. In the beta directory is 2 executables. The second one, arma server is obviously the one you want. I then made a batch file called "start arma 1.07 beta+fix" on the desktop which had in it, <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">START "" /D"%CD%" /B "%CD%\beta\ArmA_Server.exe" -mod=beta -config=server.cfg That's with a standard, default install, so it should work for you unless you've done something funky. Note #1; The server config file will have to be created too, but that's all covered in the readme. Note #2; Unless I'm missing a trick, notepad won't save out batch files or .cfg files. It insists on having the .txt extension. But I'm sure you already knew that or know a workaround.

This is because Fraps and Teamspeak each use a recording device in your PC. Teamspeak takes the record device, until you start recording in Fraps. Fraps takes over the recording device. Solution? Have two soundcards. I have an onboard one and a cheap Audigy. It's a bit of a juggling act because you can tell TS which device to use, but the interface in Fraps is a bit basic and so it's a bit hit and miss getting it to use the *other* one, but it can be done. If I can manage it, I'm sure you can Someone else might have more expertise on this than me, but using the above setup, my TS transmissions can't be heard in Fraps recordings, but everyone elses can.

Do you think that go in war, is happy think ? That you will niver get shot ? Of course you will get shot... Don't look at middle east war like Irak 1991, those have old tank & plane, & can not fight against new U.S tech, also they can not hide in the desert and arab are bad soldier... Same about the Afghanistan those Rebel are using AK47 against Special Forces using M82 (Thermal & Night scoped)... Sure if you were a soldier attacking a European country using russian new tech weapons, you will be probably be hit... If you are hided in a bush & if A.I hit you, believe that those A.I are using Thermal Scope / Goggle Much sense you not make.
  7. After my children in ArmA thread got Hoz'd , I asked him if we could have a wider ranging discussion on worldwide gaming rating systems. I couldn't find an existing thread without horrendous necroposting, so here goes. Lets leave the ArmA/children aspect where it is, I'd like to discuss the regional differences. I did discuss usermade content with PEGI, but we'll leave that to another thread. So, to get it's PEGI 18 rating, ArmA had to specifically exclude child and civilian female violence, but ESRB doesn't mention it.

Online game rating systems around the world

OK then. This website, PEGI online gives a lot of information. In particular, they are aware that usermade content can have an affect on the audience. I've not yet read it in detail, though I did notice they seem to be more concerned with persistant wold games and MMO games. I suppose that a war FPS with an ability (as designed by the developer) to support such a wide range of user made content is quite unusual in the genre. I have had a short email exchange with the chaps at PEGI so it seems they are interested in informing us, if not, yet, debating with us.

Both have merit. Why don't you fire up the usermade content + ratings systems in a separate thread?
  12. 2 further things (1.07 hotfix d/s and clients) This evac thing for the Apache. When I tried to "get in back", it bumped me off saying I couldn't crew it. Also, the Chinook is a horror to fly, just like the bad old days of flying helos in ArmA. It's very twitchy. (This was in Southern Star mission, if it helps)

  15. The thread that was started about having child characters in the game has been locked before I could gather the information for my reply so I'll start this one. Discussion about having child characters in this game left me feeling distinctly uneasy. Frankly, I though some of the comments were quite unsavoury. I emailed PEGI (Pan European Game Information) who administer the ratings system for computer games. When it was released, they gave ArmA a 16+ which is fairly self explanatory. They replied this morning. The game will get an 18+ rating if "Depictions of violence towards vulnerable human-like characters will include in particular women and children" Note "women and children" They mean civilians in this context. I wonder if the reporter female character was in the initial release or has been added since in a patch? Here's the closing 2 paragraphs of the email in their entirety. So, they way I read it, it could "break" the 16+ classification if children are added and may lead to it getting an 18+ rating, as well as getting the VSC involved. I doubt BIS will want an 18+ rating on their game in Europe as it will decimate sales. Here endth the lesson.

Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI

I refer you to the GTA/Sex scene furore. Although the developers had buried it deep out of the default path, users could still get at it. I wonder how different BIS NOT telling us to not make children addons is?

hmm.... With inflamatory gems like that, I have a funny feeling where this thread is headed Agreed. I'll edit it out if I can. ~ ~ Done.

Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI

OK, in the US, the game got a "Mature" which means Blood, Strong violence and language. For it to have got an ESRB of "Adults only" it would have taken the inclusion of graphic sexual content. Whereas in Europe, the inclusion of violence toward children would have been enough to lift it to the equivelent rating. The ESRB make no mention of violence toward children. At the end of the day, both the ESRB and PEGI have given the game the same rating, but in Europe, the inclusion of children would almost certainly raise that rating. In the US, it's much less clear cut.

Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI

Possibly. ESRB (I think) is the US equiv of PEGI? What ESRB rating did it get?

Children in ArmA: Decency says no, so do PEGI

I don't know. PEGI will have an opinion. I've replied to them by email and await clarification.
