Silly americans and their silly little planes..
Bah! If it wasn't for us, you would be flying this to visit the Americas:

And yes, those are some freaky wings.
-
The home city system is a good idea, make no mistake. But the fact that they got rid of all trade, ignored everything outside the Americas, abandoned all us low specs players and switched from their entertaining informational campaigns to movie-like rpg, it kinda cancels out the good. Â

And if they were going for an all American colonization game, why the hell did they have the Ottomans in there? The Dutch need to pwn something in the New England map. I'm looking at you, Sweden.

I guess there are always X-Packs.

-
When are the rest of you whippersnappers gonna join up? Huh? Huh? Â
Army ROTC...
Bet you weren't expecting that, huh? Â

-
It just represents the ages you advance through doesn't it?It pretty much confirms AoE4 and 5.
I, II and III are the concept art for their respective games, so its pretty obvious that IV and V show what the last two games are about.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but some very interesting information from another forum has come to my attention.
It seems that in the back of AoE3 Collectors Edition there is a very peculiar piece of artwork. Now, I have no idea what it could mean, so I decided I might share this with you:
Hmm? Â

Also to let you know that upon my temporary departure from the forums, 50 active members will be selected at random and IP banned from the board. Â

Good luck, Jarhead. Â

M-4 in Half Life2? Now ive seen it all ... Â
Bah, Valve should have stayed with the fantasy MP5 w/ GL! Â

-
Not for OFP, so I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but for Half Life2 there is this popular mod called Garry's Mod, where you can pose ragdolls(from HL2, CSS,DOD:S and many custom models) to create comics. It's really hard at first to make a decent one but with some practice and PS editing skills, you can make some really impressive stuff.
Here are some examples from other comics done in G Mod:
-
Le Frenchman is in the Pooll Crescent Police Department in Eastonwood. He is my favorite and strongest character but he's really low on ammo.
El Frencho isn't doing all that well. He has both a pistol and shotgun but its a bit hard leveling up.
La Zombie, my only zombie character, to put it lightly, sucks. Its impossible to level up and the scientists keep reviving me. LEAVE ME ALONE!

-
Jeez, I was safe in Lockettside, getting lots of ammo, killing the occasional zombie. I had a good life but nooo I had to go to Barrville and try and find Harnu. Now, the only safe PD isnt even barricaded and I get bitten and I'm low ammo. Â

I'm getting out of here asap. Â

In the class I am in now,(Advanced Placement US History), we spend only 2 weeks on a unit, which means all the boring Columbus stuff is over within a week. When we are doing the American Revolution, the regular classes are just starting with the early explorers.
Going little off-topic here but does'nt the US history curriculum include anything prior to the 18th century?

World History(including meso-american civilizations) from the begining to Tokugawa Japan is in a class called Global History I.
World History starting from European absolutism to late 1990's goes in Global History II.
Stuff like Jose Marti and Simon Bolviar were covered here.

A.P.U.S.H. and US History Regents focus on North American history. We cover alot more ground than the US Regents classes due to being an accelerated class and reading a chapter every couple days at home instead of spending a week on a chapter.
Sorry for ot. Â

I didn't know Canada had a statue dedicated to Gonarch.

Nice pictures, btw.

Quote[/b] ] how is the subject taught in schools? In New York schools, they push the idea that doing nothing lets bad things happen. We spend alot of time talking about the events leading up to WWII and our teacher placed alot of emphasis on how it was better for Hitler to not be assassinated before the battle in Berlin, as there was a possibility of him being replaced by a very much more battle experienced general, making the war last even longer.

Quote[/b] ] How is it treated in entertainment media like books, movies, and video games?Generally, WW2 is represented here like anywhere else in the US.
Quote[/b] ] What is society's general feelings towards the subject (guilt-wise, pride-wise, etc)?Average "w3 saved teh wurld!1" kind of attitude. We understand that the Japanese interment camps were wrong, but those times were desperate and paranoid.
Quote[/b] ]What are your personal views on the subject?I personally believe too much guilt and shame has been put on Germany, who is just as guilty or even less guilty as Japan in some respects.
Quote[/b] ]And perhaps the most touchy: what are the views of people you know (grandparents, etc) who were alive during that period? What do they think about their former enemy nations? My grandfather was in the Coast Guard and stationed at Fort Niagara, where he met my grandmother, of German decent.
After the war, he had the funnest job in the world; dragging out bloated corpses out from the Niagara River who had jumped over Niagara Falls to commit suicide.
"After a few days, you don't pull them out by the arm. Their skin falls off like a rotten apple that way." he would tell me. Â

Happy Birthday, Placebo!
How do you like the portrait I did of you?

I paid special attention to your famed legs. Â

I found this on another forum and thought it was interesting:

"After three years of being laughed out of meetings, the U.S. Marine Corps' futuristic plans to deploy through space may finally be getting some traction," notes Aviation Week's spunky new spin-off, Defense Technology International.
Although the chuckle factor hasn't altogether disappeared, the Air Force Research Laboratory and Darpa are beginning a study of options for a reusable upper-stage space travel vehicle -- the same kind of technology that the Marines might need for a ride halfway across the globe.
The effort is called "Hot Eagle," and it could be the first step forward in the Marine Corps' hopes for space travel. Within minutes of bursting into the atmosphere beyond the speed of sound -- and dispatching that ominous sonic boom -- a small squad of Marines could be on the ground and ready to take care of business within 2 hours. [One presentation muses that the capsule might later be picked up by a Osprey or by a "balloon cable and C-17" transport plane. Or, the Marines might "hike out," and "leave [the] crew capsule behind." -- ed.]
The Marine Corps calls the concept the Small Unit Space Transport and Insertion Capability (Sustain). This plan, a growing group of Marine supporters say, is the natural evolution of the service's proclivity for expeditionary warfare that began decades ago with amphibious landings...
The concept is to deliver strategic equipment or a small squad of soldiers to any point on the globe -- even the most hard-to-reach location -- within hours of need. Once on the ground, those soldiers can carry out strategically critical missions like reconnaissance or destroying a specific target.
At least, that's their pitch.
Heinlein would be proud. Â

"Not FPS - MGS!"

I. Can't. Believe. I. Missed. That!

It wasn't until awhile ago that I realized that was a joke on the viewer.

Ah, well.
Quote[/b] ]TGS 2005: Kojima Through With Metal GearPart 4 to be last entry for both Kojima and character designer Shinkawa.
by Anoop Gantayat
September 17, 2005 - We recall having heard something to this effect with previous entries in the series, but Hideo Kojima, producer/director of Metal Gear Solid 4, has stated that MGS4 will be his last game in the series. Art director Yoji Shinkawa will also leave the series after part 4, Kojima revealed during an event at Konami's Tokyo Game Show booth today.
The reason for the departure? "As a game designer, I want to make something new," Kojima stated.
Konami's TGS stage schedule is packed full of Metal Gear related events, but this particular event, titled "Mission 3 MG Saga on TGS" was of particular interest to those who've been with the series since the start. With Enterbrain's Hirokazu Hamamura at his side (Hamamura is in charge of all the Famitsu magazines -- he's pretty respected in the game development community), Kojima detailed the history of Metal Gear, starting with the first MSX2 Metal Gear game (released on 7/12/1987) and continuing on through Metal Gear Solid 4. He even shared a few personal pictures of himself.
Kojima had some interesting comments throughout the stage event. "I originally wanted to make movies and novels," he explained, "but nothing worked. I encountered the Famicom (Japanese version of the NES) when I was in a worried state." Continuing on to the NES version's sequel, Meta Gear 2 Solid Snake (released to Japan on 7/19/90), Kojima revealed that he originally didn't want to make a sequel. Good thing he did, as series character designer Yoji Shinkawa, also in attendance at the event, revealed that this sequel is what made him want to move into the game industry.
The dialogue continued into the modern day "Solid" incarnation of the series. "Through the creation of this game, we were able to form the basis for Kojima Productions," Kojima stated, revealing just what a turning point Metal Gear Solid was for him. This first PlayStation entry in the series, released to Japan on 9/8/1998, was originally started with a staff of just twenty people. Two PS2 sequels followed, leading up to the full unveiling of MGS4 earlier this week.
Jumping a bit further into the Metal Gear timeline, Kojima shared a chart detailing the organization of the Metal Gear saga. The chronology begins with MGS3: Snake Eater, followed by Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, all three of which form the "Big Boss Trilogy." MGS, MGS2 Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 4 follow in that order, forming the Solid Trilogy. Metal Gear Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Acid and Metal Gear Acid 2 are side stories.
MGS4 seems to be generating the same level of excitement as MGS2 did when it first showed off the power of the PlayStation 2 back at E3 2000, so there's no sign of the series losing its appeal. If Kojima does move on after MGS4, we don't doubt that there will be an MGS5 some day, but perhaps it will have some competition from whatever new property Kojima turns his attention to.

The devs really need to get rid of the moustashe. He hardly looks like Snake now. Â

-
Another game i just stumbled over, is Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4). Look at this ingame video, this is what the PS3 is capable of! Lots of eyecandy, but will it be playable?Yeah right. Just like "in-game-videos" of the E3 2005.

People said similar things when the MGS 2 footage was released.
Of course, we know how that game turned out. Â

Regarding the trailer:
-Snake looks old. Really old.

-The intro part looked too fps-y. MGS was about stealth.

-It had a Zanzibar kind of feeling. Until it actually said it was after X years after Big Shell, I thought this was a remake. I'm guessing this is the "how the hell am I going to hide in that?!" enviroment they were talking about. Â

-
I should be in S. Blytheville by tomorow or the day after.
I spent today's AP on finding a kitchen knife and moving west. Im in Wray Heights btw. Â

Found this on hl2.net:
Quote[/b] ]Bitter after being snubbed for membership in the "Axis of Evil", Libya, China and Syria today announced that they had formed the "Axis of Just as Evil", which they said would be "more evil than that stupid Iran-Iraq-NorthKorea axis" President Bush warned of in his State of the Union address. Axis of Evil members, however, immediately dismissed the new Axis as having, "for starters, a really dumb name". "Right. As if they are just as evil ... in their dreams!" declared North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. "Everybody knows we're the best evils? Evilest? ...That we're the best!" Diplomats from Syria denied they were jealous over being excluded, Although they conceded they had asked if they could join the Axis of Evil. "They told us it was full," said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "An axis can't have more than three countries", explained Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "This is not my rule, it's tradition. In World War II you had Germany, Italy, and Japan in the evil Axis. So, you can only have three. And a secret handshake. Ours is wickedly cool."International reaction to Bush's Axis of Evil declaration was swift, as within minutes, France surrendered. Elsewhere, peer-conscious nations rushed to gain triumvirate status in what has become a game of geopolitical chairs. Cuba, Sudan and Serbia announced that they had formed the "Axis of Somewhat Evil", forcing Somalia to join with Uganda and Myanmar in the "Axis of Occasionally Evil", while Bulgaria, Indonesia And Russia established the "Axis of Not So Much Evil Really as Just Generally Disagreeable".
With the criteria suddenly expanded and all the desirable clubs filling up, Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Rwanda applied to be called the "Axis of Countries That Aren't the Worst But Certainly Won't Be Asked to Host the Olympics". Canada, Mexico and Australia formed the "Axis of Nations That Are Actually Quite Nice But Secretly Have Some Nasty Thoughts About America", while Scotland, New Zealand and Spain established the "Axis of Countries That Want Sheep to Wear Lipstick". "That's not a threat, really, just something we like to do", said Scottish Executive First Minister Jack McConnell.
While wondering if the other nations of the world weren't perhaps making fun of him, a cautious Bush granted approval for most axis, although he rejected the establishment of the "Axis of Countries Whose Names End in 'Guay", accusing one of its members of filing a false application. Officials from Paraguay, Uruguay, and Norguay denied the charges. Norguays king Harald can't understand the rejection "I filled out the application myself".
I wonder where this leaves Sweden and Finland...
