    Westland wessex

Oberon... Any word on progress on either of these 2 tantalising projects? I speak as a sad old ex-Wessex driver, you understand...

    New version 2s19 msta

Munger, Many thanks - I now realise that although I had correctly installed the files into one of my User configurations, I was looking for it in another that I'd set up specifically to try Avon Lady's expanded FoV suggestion. Like I said earlier - what a numpty!

    New version 2s19 msta

*Warning* - Numpty Alert - OK, sad but true - I don't know how to implement the mission or the scripts! Could some kind soul please help this elderly IT-illiterate by telling me which island's User folder to put the mission in, and where the scripts go? In fact, just tell me step-by-step how to make it all work? Thanks in advance (sigh...)

    Heat?

SWAFLoonie, The effect you described for a HEAT round is that produced by the old HESH (HE Squash Head) round used by Chieftain, where the warhead "splurged" against the target before detonating. Relatively easily defeated by modern armour, so discontinued.

Unlike the other assets available to the UK SF, the Chinook can manoeuvre over a moving target (eg ship) out-of-wind while providing a stable roping platform.  And how did the Littlebirds get anywhere near their Iraqi targets during the 1991 unpleasantness?  By refuelling from a UK SF fat-cow, that's how...

    Helicopter landing gear

The Chinook is designed for run-on speeds of up to 60 kts at Max All-Up Mass. Apart from reduced power requirements, another advantage of running or zero-speed landings (where the helicopter effectively reaches the hover just as the wheels/skids touch the surface) is a reduction in downwash and its associated effects. These effects include the blinding brown-out (dust or sand) or white-out that cause the pilot(s) to lose all external references so essential for safe manoeuvring close to the ground.

    Mt-lb pack release 2 !

PSC, Just a thought - I have no experience of SA13 other than flying overhead some Serbian ones in 1986, but I have noticed a common thread with your pictures. They all seem to be of units either carrying out training or on parade. Could it be that yellow containers are used for DP (Dummy/ Practice) crew-training rounds? If so, then they might not be appropriate for OpFP...

    Ferret update

Very nice piece of work, Oberon. Wardog: Correct up to a point - the big-wheeled Ferret Mk5 (similar in looks to the later Fox CVRW) had Swingfire. The missile-carrying version of the Ferret 2, which Oberon is modelling so beautifully, was equipped with the hideous Vigilant missile which had to be hand-flown by the operator all the way to the target. It was so loud it was more likely to deafen the enemy tankies while en-route than it was to actually hit anything on arrival General Mortars: I used to fly Wessex helicopters around that part of the world in the late 70s/ early 80s; we used to say that no matter how remote our landing site we could guarantee the first kinder on their bikes would arrive within 5 minutes of our shutting-down. Were you ever one of our visitors ?

    Bw mod 1.2

I asked a very similar question here a week or so ago, and had a very helpful reply from one of the moderators (and also from one of the MOD members, who described my problem as being that of GOTY owners - I'm not, however). Basically, I had to right click the downloaded file to unpack the individual items, then move each part into the appropriate OpFP folder.

    Bw mod demo 1.2

PSC, MadMage and co. : Many thanks for your replies - I'll give the right-click plan a go right now. It's not GOTY, by the way.

    Bw mod demo 1.2

No errors reported so far. I'm going to have to knock this on the head (I'm a police pilot on shift, and we have a task coming up) but I'll shutdown/restart and try again later. You do yourself and your site immense credit with this sort of helpful response - I'm very grateful. cheers - drive safely

    Bw mod demo 1.2

Many thanks again - that was b****y fast! After the last screen, the 2 installation boxes just clear. I'm not running OpFP, and when checking the programme folder I find that an empty BW Mod sub-folder has been added, but no other changes have been made (sigh...)

    Bw mod demo 1.2

Installation snag: I've just spent over 6 hours downloading this on a 56k modem, and now find that I'm also unable to install. I did not have any previous BW Mod installation. I've tried running the German text that's presented during installation through the Babelfish translation site, but I've not been able to decode what the programme is trying to tell me. Would any kind soul out there who's successfully installed this demo and who has time to help out an older, not-computer-savvy user please post some English installation instructions? Thanks in advance

User missions crashing on "load" or "retry"

Red, Thanks for the swift reply - I'm not used to that on this knackered old 56k system we're limited to in this part of the country. I'll look up TJs contact details when I'm offline.
  17. As the title says, I'm having problems with 1 or 2 User Missions (TJ's thoroughly-enjoyable "IMPROBABLE" being the latest), whereby after attempting to re-load or retry from an earlier save point the programme just crashes to the desktop. Is this something that other players have suffered from, or is it something specific to my set-up? cheers

    Breaking news

Marshman, Speaking as an ex-CH47 pilot, and having been inside a Mi26, I have to say that I think the scaling of the model looks about right. The Chinook is indeed impressive - shame no add-on maker has worked out how to put a minigun on each side and one on the ramp as we had in 1991 - but the Mi26 simply takes your breath away. Oh, and a big thanks to the gentleman who posted the photo of the Hastings being lifted - my dad flew that one during the Berlin Airlift; he was delighted to see the picture.
