    A2 servers vs OA servers

I believe nearly all ArmA2 server admins have installed OA on their machines and thus run a combined ops server now, with a few oddities running a standalone OA server
  4. @$able. I fully agree with you about consistency of quality where a server admin could manually add a player to a public banlist for anything but the right reasons. I do think there is a strong argument however for an automatically generated public banlist by Battleye itself. This list would not include ID's added to it by the server admin. A server admin would however have the option to toggle On or Off using the Automated public banlist to populate his servers blacklist. This I think would be a welcomed feature especially under the present circumstances

Sorry folks, lower/upper case issue on the web url, now fixed. Doesnt seem the yoma repository has updated correctly and as the system automatically updates the servers and reboots them I cannot rerun the updater until after our gaming night session which is currently underway and should end at approximately midnight UK time

Latest Zeu_AI DEVELOPMENT version is now available get it from Zeus Yoma repository (It's one of the default servers) Zeus Website .7z file Bookmark the website link, any future development updates will be hosted at the same location
  7. Now if that had been done via a pm to a selection of trusted players that may have been fun to do
  8. Just to clarify some points here. Carrying out any or all of the following precautions WILL NOT defend from these hacks i.e Running with sig verification on Running with battleye "ON" Not running or allowing any additional addons The hack is written by an experienced coder, the "children" of their community learn through trial and error in most cases how to run the hack. Sometimes they screw it up and you can catch them and ban them. Dont bother banning them with the game engine ban system, use the battleye system it's more robust and takes a bit more effort for them to bypass it. If the admin is on the ball and watching his logs and whatever other monitoring system he may want to apply, he may get lucky and spot them. What they can do with the server depends on the addon that they are loading with the hack. Any client is a target For now your options are Use the Rcon application to administer your server Password your server. Wait for BIS to patch this

    Zeus AI Combat Skills

The Zeus server repository, which is one of the default servers listed on the yoma tool. More information on how to install/use this tool can be found in the zeus community manual linked to in my sig file. This repository has been made specifically for the zeus community to play on the Zeus server and contains a selection of addons which also includes the latest development version of Zeus AI. This development version which is often updated twice weekly may contain bugs. It is not officialy available for public consumption, but Protegimus has ok'd it for those who want the latest W.I.P version. I tend to update the repository on Sundays and Thursdays, all you need to do is sync with it to find out if there has been any changes

    Hey Yoma (Or anyone else)

have you tried posting on Yoma's thread about his tool ?

We only host addons that is required by either 1) The server 2) The clients 3) The mission. If none of those require it then ofcourse there isnt a reason to run it or the keys unless you want to support addons that are not used by your server If the clients dont require it and the mission doesnt require it then you wont need to host the Server key for it either (afaik). Most of the "Proper" stuff is clientside only, so you would just need to host the "Proper" Server Key for them. Our clientside addon pack contains a selection of "Proper" addons as well ---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ---------- ;Zeus AI is Protegimus's baby. He gives me the latest DEV version to host on our server to test on our gaming nights. Once I get them, I host them on our YOMA respository with other clientside addons that we allow our players to use. AFAIK, Protegimus didnt intend making these development versions available for public consumption, however he does not have an issue with folks using them outside of the Zeus Gaming server. The only place you can get the beta dev is from our Yoma respository, which has been set up for our community. It includes more than Zeus AI though. On Thursdays release I shall include the server keys needed to support clients using them. Our @Zcommon addon pack is continuously updated and not publicised when it is. Our members are told to sync with the addon repository prior to joining the server. As we run gaming nights on Sundays and Thursdays, it would be reasonable to expect that if a new dev version was available, it would be updated for those gaming nights on those evenings by say 8PM. So if I were you and you wanted to run the latest dev, then sync at those times on those days
  13. Equalmodrequired will block any players joining that do not run exactly the same -mod params as the server. This would include Beta patch clients OA Standalone if you are a CO server (or vice versa) and any other custom addon pack along with ofcourse CBA, ACE etc. I would suggest you absolutely run with key signing on and just add a bunch of serverkeys for content you want to support. Alternatively read the very long thread entitled... How to configure your dedicated server so it prevents ACE users joining

We dont run all of the CBA addons, just Extended event handlers. We run a standalone OA server at present. The files we actually run are cba_extended_eventhandlers.pbo cba_oa_main.pbo We use these for certain serverside addons We also offer an optional clientside only addon pack and include this in our clientside pack as some of those addons require it. For all intents and purposes expansions folder is just a mod folder Any mod/addon folder can contain whatever combination of addons you want, so it doesnt really matter where you place your addons from that point of view nor does it effect the key signing checking process or Battleye, because that doesnt look for addons in a specific location. Just make sure your mission makers dont create any CBA addon dependancy missions and you will be fine. It could create management issues trying to remember what addons are stock B.I and what addons you have copied into the expansions\addon folder, but thats not a big issue. We keep a vanilla install as a master copy and only use copies of that for game servers, so if we ever needed to reset the game server content, its just a matter of deleting the content from the server install and copying the master into it. Doing this to get a green icon in gamespy is a no brainer decision for me :-) I also do exactly the same for the beta patch/mod , copy the files straight from the beta folder into the expansions folder root and run the server as you would normally. For the end result, view gamespy on a Thursday and Sunday evening at around 21:00 UK time and see which the busiest server is :-)

I have placed the individual addons straight into our expansion\addons folder to get around this problem
  16. Having a restricted accesw to a Server Admin forum would be very useful for this and other issues. However how secure could that be, who would police membership etc. I believe $able or B.I is the answer here. If one individual server was to implement some anti hack code instead of being done server wide, then that particular server would be targetted even moreso just because of the challenge
  17. I couldnt disagree with you more. I hope they dont get help, I hope they dont lve long enough to enjoy the virtues of maturity and i hope they live the rest of their lives as they do now with those who are close to them showing little if any interest in them. This isnt because i am frustrated by their efforts its simply because they mean nothing to me, no more than if it was a fly in my kitchen. It wont live long and it feeds of crap and it's children are fed to fish:-) Cant think of a better more fitting lifecycle for them.

    Zeus AI Combat Skills

Hi folks, am glad you are enjoying Protegimus's AI enhancements. Please be aware, the @Zcommon mod folder that is available on our Yoma repository is specifically set up for the Zeus community and the Zeus server. It contains other addons along with Zeus AI which you may or may not want to run. It is updated regularly and often contains beta development content, especially the latest unreleased DEV version of Prot's work. Other servers may not have the BiKeys required to run some of these addons and the keys at the moment are not included in our community pack. I wasn't aware that folks outside of our community were downloading this pack, but now that I am, I shall endeavour to also include the server keys for it, which I will add in the next update. It may be a better idea to only download from the Yoma repository and not host a mirror site due to the constantly evolving content. If you need help in setting up Yoma's, please refer to the Zeus community manual linked too in my signature file. The Zeus AI can be installed serverside only if that is what you prefer. Ideal for coop play if you dont want your clients to run addons

check the newcomers guide to MP, the link to it can be found in my signature
  20. Loki's addon is a set of scripts that can be easily copied into any addon and use any combination of global variables etc. With that in mind, there is no point in writing code that checks for specific booleans etc. You need to look at the way they are implementing the addon cheat and work towards a solution for that rather than the addon itself. Be very wary though, if you were to write anti cheat code, that would make you a big juicy target for these parasites who would then see your server as a challenge. The better solution would have to be implemented by $able or B.I and if the net chat is anything to go by, the sooner the better
  21. The particular hack that is currently being run bypasses this and battleye, therefore, for now you need to approach this problem from a different perspective.
  22. Well Zeus, for some weird universal reason runs the latest dev Zeus AI. However at present we are running Standalone OA, not combined ops We also allow CSM sound mod by hosting the BI key and we have our own clientside addon pack which improves some gameplay issues. We also allow some other stuff, but not much. I think you will find nearly all established servers will host the Bikeys for clientside stuff, but it really is down to the specific server management what it is they host. If you have a favourite server or a number of servers you connect to frequently, then send them a pm and a list of addons you want to play with and possibly the server keys so they dont have to search for them. If its a reasonable request and you are a regular they will most likely oblige
  23. debug this yourself 1) clear your .rpt file 2) Load the full pack and then take a look at the .rpt file for any error messages if that fails, quickest way to find out which pbo/pbo mix it is, is test half a pack at a time, until you figure out which half causes the problem. Then split the faulty pack in 2 and test again until you narrow it down to one file. If you are running OA standalone, could there be an addon in there that has dependancy on ArmA2 content that you do not have ?
  24. Some of the following steps, you will already have made, but here's a step by step guide to do it sensibly 1) Install Arma2 to whatever folder, and make this your master copy 2) Install OA to that same folder 3) Patch to the latest non beta patch 4) Install the beta patch to the master 5) Make a copy of this master install and use this copy of the master install as your "Server" 6) Copy the contents of the expansions\beta folder to the root of your expansions folder on your "SERVER" copy 7) Copy the expansions\beta\arma20aserver.exe to the root of the "SERVER" copy, overwriting the non beta server.exe For example expansion\beta\dta files are copied to expansion\dta folder So basically you should now have a pristine master copy of a Combined Ops installation, and a copy of this which has been modified to run the beta files outside of their beta folder. Then, if for any reason the beta has issues, all you need to do is delete the "SERVER" copy and make a fresh copy of your master install and then run the server.exe as you would normally. End result, running the latest beta patch, but still having a green icon next to your server name in gamespy and still having an unedited pristine installation incase of problems.

    Admins: PLEASE ALLOW @ACEX_SM!!!!

Just to support Taxman here. Unless you actually run a gaming server and all the other bits that come with it such as forums, website, voice servers etc, then you have absolutely no idea how much work goes into running the backend. Even moreso with the complete cluster**** that OA has brought to us. The guys that buy and run these servers for their community's mostly have full time jobs and the little time they have to spend on the administration side of a server is done supporting the regulars who constantly play on the server. So to expect those admins to run around looking for server keys for every addon out there just so a few individuals may accidentally hop onto their server and probably screw up their gaming session because they arent even on the voice comms server is actually asking a bit too much imho. Server admins select addons that fulfill their typeof gaming. As an analogy, what you are asking is for some stranger to add music dvd's for your particular flavour of music to his collection just incase you knock on his door and invite yourself into his house.
