I wouldn't call it whining. I just tell them that I don't accept their decision and that I'm not going to buy ArmA III if it's going to be Steam only and I'll stick to what I say. If it's BIS interest to get rid of a good bunch of loyal customers to gain a broder audience then it's their choice. Your not from Europe and maybe customer rights are not as important for you as they're for quite a couple of us. If you haven't got it so far from our POV the Steam business practice is unlawful. Don't know how a company located in Europe can ignore that and even consider to get into a business relationship with such a company just for the sake of making more money. The moral compass here is pointing straight southward!

Come on and name at least one of the features. It seems like you didn't read the blog because they don't even mention what features they're talking about but with the post from gammadust and my answer you could actually guess what they're talking about. Instead you're pulling answers out of where it's dark.
-
Stats & Achievements like I said. Of course to develop something like that all by themselfs would have thrown them back for more than a year. Besides that who needs such features in a game like ArmA? Right, CoD and BF kiddies. The clientele to go for! Anything else of any relevance which isn't already in the game now? NO!

If you mean this one? http://www.bistudio.com/english/company/developers-blog/356-arma3-steam-dev-blog Then the answer is yes and now that I'm with it you or maybe a BIS employee or even CEO can answer some questions concerning following points? How they've a more direct administration of their games without a middle-man? They just put a middle-man in between with that decision! Besides that I don't get the whole point. There actually never was a necessity for a middle-man so far. The whole point is simply far-fetched in my opinion. Without this choice most of the features wouldn't be available? What did the community do in the last 10 years? Right, put features into the game that weren't available at all. Is there no trust in the community anymore to create what is needed/missing? Besides that what features are they talking about? If they don't go into detail nobody can understand the reasoning. I can only guess that they're talking about some reward/achievement system which nobody actually needs in such a game. What other features can Steam/Valve offer them? I'm really interested to hear!

Maruk, I'm sorry but I don't see how the given reasons help you in the development progress and until you or any other BIS employee comes clean with the real reason(s) I'll call all the given ones "flimsy" at least. To be honest the words "blatant lies" are actually buzzing to my head. It can't be your intention to backstab longstanding community members and customers just for the sake of attracting attention from a customer clientele of which you can't even estimate if the game will actually profit from. IMHO you're betraying what BIS stud for over 10 years now. Didn't we stayed with you even in the worst times? Is that how you thank us for our support which other developers can just dream of? I always told everybody who wanted to know or even not how great and diffrent BIS is in comparison to all the other developers and now I feel like somebody did spit into my face. And as I'm with it. How could you make DnA the Project Lead for ArmA III? The guy literally drove TKOH against the wall at least as far as I got it. You want ArmA III to become the same fiasco? If yes you're on the best way to.
-
I do and will boycott Steam so I unfortunately I'll have to boycott ArmA III until you find an other solution to publish it. I'm actually very, very disappointed about this decision. I read the given reasons and only see empty phrases. I thought BIS was diffrent than all the other companies in the business but unfortunately that doesn't seems to be true anymore which partially was already proven with how things got handled in the last years and with some of the last releases. It's sad but you'll lose an loyal customer and fan that has supported you over 10 years now because of such an - excuse me - braindead decision.

Ok, the hint with the HSim folder in the P: drive was right but the correct path to the textures is "P:\HSim\air_us_h\Helicopters_Medium\data" and if you want all textures for all LODs you've to unpack some more PBOs and copy the relevant data.
-
Thanks a lot for the heads-up. Will try it tomorrow and report back.
-
I've the same problem. Downloaded the samples and loaded the P3D of the medium helicopter in O2. When starting up Buldozer you get an error message "Cannot load texture hsim\air_us_h\helicopters_medium\data\nameoftexture.paa". I've tried to change the path manually with no result. I tried packed and unpacked PBOs in various locations but it doesn't works. Can somebody please tell me/us how to set the right path? Mondkalb's tutorial doesn't seems to have the answer to this problem and Gnat's O2 youtube tutorials also doesn't if I'm not totally mistaken.

I don't know if it's mentioned somewhere but as you may noticed from the intro of Utes that's running as background in the main menu the MV-22 Osprey has the feature to fold it's wings, engine housings and blades for storing. Here is a small video of it... 2gU-g1tnUI8 I've taken a look into the mission and discovered the script command for the animation. _xtype = [this,1] execvm ""\ca\air2\mv22\scripts\pack.sqf" The animation is normally executed very fast (<1 sec) and I've used "setAccTime 0.05" to make it look more realistic in the video. I don't know but is it maybe possible to just slow down the animation itself to keep the playability up?

List: All ingame helicopter skins and labels
T.S.C.Plage posted a topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Here's a list with all the hiddenselection skins for the three helicopters and the couple of stickers you can apply. The skins are the ones available in the Editor plus the "hidden" Air Ambulance skin. You can apply these textures to all respectivly available versions (Luxury, Military/Civilian/Cargo, Air Ambulance) of the three diffrent types if not mentioned otherwise. -
Locations (of heli- and airports on the map)
T.S.C.Plage posted a topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
I've compared the locations of heliports (via their airport indentifier) on the TKOH map with the original Seattle area because I wanted to know how correct they're. I've used the "heliport.hpp" to cross check them and to see which are actually in there and if they're named correctly. I've also looked for some unnamed airports, -fields and strips that I noticed while flying around. Here is the result: I've made an editor-mission with some additional markings. Looks like this... Here's the mission.sqm if you're interested. Update: v1.01 (see "Added" in quote above) Unfortunately the marking for the heliport of the Bangor Base is wrongly placed. Could this be fixed in a future patch, please? If this thread better belongs in the editing section or anywhere else then please move. -

What are the requirements for AI to be able to fastrope from a helicopter?
T.S.C.Plage replied to [evo] dan's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Isn't there a module for that? If not did you extract one of the fast-roping missions from the career and take a look how it's done in there? You can ask if the squads are still in the vehicle (syntax: squad1 in vehicle heli1) in the waypoint after the fast-rope one so it only gets activated if all the units you want have disembarked. /edit: Maybe it's just squad1 in heli1. Not sure, try yourself. -
Helmet cam footage of extreme firefight in Afghanistan
T.S.C.Plage replied to Mr Butlertron's topic in OFFTOPIC
Not that. The problem with FUNKER350 and his vids are that he always uses sensational but not always true headlines and descriptions for his vids to get more clicks or better money. Most of the vids he uploads aren't even worth to watch. I'm not BTDT and my mil. experience is limited to my conscription time and the stuff I see, read or gather in talks with other soldiers but in my understanding the guy in the video couldn't have done much more wrong. It is said that he was the point man and did this crazy stunt to draw fire and give his squadmates the opportunity to fall back but in my book drawing fire doesn't includes slowly decending down a hill with absolutely no cover. Maybe moving from one cover to an other or short periods of exposing yourself but not what he did. I'd actually call the given reason with the fall back BS because you normally would hold the position and then retreat yourself. To advance under such conditions is just suicidal in my understanding and a great method to get a nomination for the Darwin award. The thing is we just have a very short video snippet and don't know what was happening before and after nor know anything about the situation except the infos in the video description which unfortunately don't add up. If you want more informations from people with the according background I'd suggest you ask this question in a military related forum. I'd suggest the "Strictly Photos & Video" part of the militaryphotos.net forum as FUNKER is known and posting there and it has a lot of people with experience on such things. -

Emergency response missions
T.S.C.Plage replied to nosecone's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - OFFICIAL SCENARIOS
I think this screenshot is a little misleading. It doesn't shows a firefighting mission but the EMS helicopter at work. I don't know about a rescue mission on the oil rig but since it's a seperate map I think it isn't available in the carreer mode. Maybe you can find it under SP missions? If you're refering to this DVD cover (click) then I can tell you that all depicted skins are in the game. /edit: Oh and please don't call people "dude" in here, thanks. -
Retexturing the German Shepard? (need help)
T.S.C.Plage replied to Hibbino's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
The "pastor_co.paa" is the one you're looking for (...\animals2\ca\animals2\Dogs\Pastor\data). A "_ca" texture is a color alpha (diffuse map with alpha) but the strange thing is that I don't have such a texture in my "Pastor" folder so why do you? -

Emergency response missions
T.S.C.Plage replied to nosecone's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - OFFICIAL SCENARIOS
So far all rescue missions I flew where about rescueing people from boats. The only diffrence is that sometimes the persons to rescue are still on the deck of the boat and sometimes they swim in the water because the boat is on fire. I don't know anything about a fire-fighting mission.
