  1. Why don't you simply stay with HL2 if you like it so much? I actually never understood why people waste their time to create dinosaur, ancient or sci-fi mods for OFP or ArmA when there are already games which suite this themes much better.

    Air craft counter measures?

You're maybe right and they're just the sensors for the RWR but this also could be AN/AAR-44 passive infrared warning receivers. Actually there are so many systems in use that I'm getting confused which is used on which platforms and which sensors belong to which system. I read something about AN/ALQ-212 for AV-8BII and AN/ALQ-213 for the A-10C but the sources are not always up to date and matching or even seem to mix the systems up. It seems like you can get much infos about the systems themselves but not on which aircraft they're used or you get contradictory infos. Anyways lots of systems were produced and they've to be used somewhere.

    Air craft counter measures?

A-10 ingame with SU-202/AAR-57 EOMS. AN/AAR-57 usage in the US military. http://www.ecsel.psu.edu/design_projects/fa03/brochures/AN-AAR-57.pdf (see list on page 2 *) * Some aircrafts like the CH-46 are missing but are also equipped with the system nowadays

    Air craft counter measures?

With all the AA threats countermeasures would be a usefull feature, provide more realism and not at least "eye candy". You're right about the reaction time and that's why they should work autonomously at least on the US aircrafts. For the Russian aircrafts I would prefere an "always on" IR-Jammer and flares that can be dispensed for a certain time period via the menu but if that's to difficult then simply also in "auto mode". The A-10 has such sensors and according to the sources I checked the AV-8B(II) also has an AN/AAR-57 system integrated.

    Air craft counter measures?

I'm talking about laser and missile warners here which trigger the launch of flares automatically if a threat is detected.

    Air craft counter measures?

It's not "some of the few". Nearly each western military aircraft used in a warzone has them.

    Air craft counter measures?

Many western military helicopters are already equipped with ECMs, Laser- and Missile Warners and they're not only covering the rear. Do you for example know what these little things right and left on the nose of the UH-1Y are? These are AAR-57 EOMS (Electro Optical Missile Sensors) and they're widely used on many helicopters. There are diffrent systems available from BAE, Sagem and EADS (just to name some manufacturers) and they are widely used on helicopters operating in the world wide crisis regions.
  10. Must be because I tried to reach the website directly and got a "connection timeout".

    Air craft counter measures?

This is a very interesting topic. I also was wondering why BIS didn't integrated countermeasures (CMs) in ArmA2 or even 1. I mean there are a couple of functional examples in OFP and ArmA1 that they could have build up on. For example I was involved on the advisory side in getting the CMs for the OFP CSLA mod working and I guess their solution where not all missiles are deflected by the flares was quite acceptable. I've no clou how they managed it but I guess it's simply done by a "random function" in the related scripts. Generally there's the problem of how you want to have the CMs activated. Some mods used to give you an option to activate the IR-Jammer via the action-menu, drop flares manually by selecting them as weapon while others had the CMs always "turned on" automatically. For the western aircrafts this wouldn't be a problem because the most western CMs have the option to operate autonomously and flares for example will we dispensed automatically if a thread is detected via the sensors. On the other hand for example Mi-24s have an IR-Jammer that can be activated to counter IR-guided missiles but the flares always have to be triggered manually because there are simply no sensors that can detect if something aims at the helicopter or a missile is launched. To integrate this in a realistic way it would need a "launch flares" option in the action-menu but I actually doubt that you'll find the time to open the menu and select the entry in appropriate time even if you notice the launch of a missile fast enough. Therefore I think the best solution would be if all the CMs would work in "auto mode" from the point the engine of an aircraft is started. Anyways, I think it won't take to long until something like that is available via the community.

    Project RACS

I just wanted to mention that I just worked on the textures of the LAVs. I mainly tried to get the green patterns matching as they were mostly not aligning correctly. That was quiet difficult because the mapping of the LAVs is let's say "not done so well" but I guess the result is at least an advantage to the version before. I only added the MP and Marines versions to get a little more diversity and wanted to see how they're accepted by the community. I thought about doing some other matching vehicles later on depending on the "echo" here but so far it seems like it's not something that's on top of the wishlist. Unfortunately I don't know much about working on configs and really nothing about working with the models so I can't help out with fixing the mentioned bugs. I really hope that somebody else here can help out on that issue.
  13. Can anybody explain to me why I don't see SMERSHs shots? Actually I've nothing running that should block images no matter which format. I also don't see a "red X" or what ever. It's just an empty post I see.

    Americas Army 3

Armerica's Army (1.0-2.8.5) is in my opinion still the best online FPS available. It maybe doesn't looks as good as others or offers as much features but the gameplay itself is the best you can get. And that for free and not 40+ Euros. I've more then 1700 tracked hours of playing during it's existens compared to a couple hours of CoD4 just for example and that for a reason. The most FPS were just interesting in SP for me because of the story and not for gaming online. All the MP "mash" of such other games couldn't satisfy me very long. I'm really interest what 3.0 will bring us.

    What's the best racing sim

I think the SimBin simulations like GTL, GTR2 and GTR Evo are by far the best. I personally played GTR2 and GTL for a long time with the focus on GTL because I prefere the "old" cars a little more. Here's a link to my website about stuff for GTL and GTR2...click. Btw, Volvo also has a free game like the "M3 Challenge" for download that's based on the SimBin engine.

    MV-22 Opsrey folding...

No, the folding animation is normally executed very fast (~1 sec) and I've set the "gamespeed" to 0.05 when the animation starts. Btw, I also noticed that the AH-1Z and the UH-1Y have a folding option but it's not an animation just a "change position". _xtype = [this,1] execvm "\ca\air\Scripts\AH1Z_fold.sqf" _xtype = [this,1] execvm "\ca\air2\UH1Y\Scripts\fold.sqf" Unfortunately I didn't found a way to make them "unfold" again so far. The scripts anyways don't work perfectly. There are some smaller bugs. For example a strange object (four black strings) appearing at the front of the UH-1Y if it's folded and the the folded blades of the MV-22 are sometimes touching the ground depending which position (angle) the blades had when the engine stopped. If you use an "emtpy" MV-22 to just place it as object this problem doesn't appears like it seems.

    ArmAII-Mark

According to 3DMark06 the 955 is on the same the level with the i7 920. Not overclocked and with a HD4890 both normally score around 16500 points slightly depending on the used OS and peripherals. Overclocked both CPUs crack the 20000 points and I see slight advantages on the side of the 955 when using comparable clock rates.

    Flightmodel etc.

I noticed some things related to the ArmAII aircrafts that may could be reworked or could need a fix. 1. If player commanded units are with onboard of an aircraft the green "position" square always stays visible in 2nd person/exterior view (see screen below). It gets slightly transparent after a time but should be removed completly related to "Air" units. 2. In the aircrafts with a "switchable" HUD the message "HUD on/off" pops up constantly and has to be "countered" via Backspace. Generally all these diffrent command signs (like the "hand" etc.) which appear "over" the helicopter if you are scrolling to the menu or look around in the 3rd person/command view are simply mainly useless if in the air and distract a bit especially if you're flying with a joystick. 3. The maximum deflection of the vertical tail fins when using a joystick is limited to lets say the half of the one you can gain via mouse even if the controller axis settings are set to max ingame. I also checked the calibration of the joystick itself and it seems fine. 4. The influence of the tail fins (joystick Z-axis) is much to high at higher speeds. It should decrease with increasing speed. 5. The V-22 Osprey should get a better turning radius at lower speeds and when hoovering. See this thread for some more infos/ideas...click I know that BIS games are no flight sims! I'm actually quite happy with how the aircrafts (look, flight models, effects, acoustics etc.) have improved from OFP over ArmA to ArmAII now. I'm wondering if there isn't any way to implement a mode which can detect mouse or joystick inputs and loads an according config(part) or something like this. I mean there's already a joystick detection function in the game. Why not make real use of it? Just my 2 cents on that case.
